Finally update. Never received my 6 or 12 month repairs. Carefree claims they didn't receive my emails. They also claim they never received any contact from the Better Business Bureau. I filed multiple complaints and the BBB said they never responded or returned calls. Plaster fall in off exterior of the house, grout crumbling out of tile, paint peeling inside and out, all in all a terrible experience. I did receive a final visit from carefree concerning the heating system which failed 8 months ago and leaked water in the attic all the way down to the first story floor. They sent sent out two illiterate women and, According to them a highly skilled A/C and heating repairman to check on damage. Surprisingly enough they didn't find any water. Who would have thought that water dries up over the course of 8 months. They didn't even acknowledge the fact that there other repairs that were ignored and ignored them entirely. Either that or they just had no idea how to do their job. I'm going with the latter as every carefree employee that I've met with has been incompetent in every way. Don't get me wrong I'm in no way an expert on anything. But anyone with half a brain knows when something is not right. As for the carefree A/C expert it only took him 2 minutes, literally, to break my unit. I was left with no A/C or heat and the two carefree morons had nothing to say not even an apology for leaving me with what was once a working unit, now broken. I had to wait for them to come back at their convenience to fix it. Strangely enough after not doing anything wrong according to him he had to replace the entire control panel. So all in all if you have a choice do not buy a carefree home. They are incompetent from the building crew, contractors, office workers, and the lying salesman. As for the city of El Paso inspectors don't count on them to do quality inspections as many items they passed were so far off the mark up to just not even being installed that they can't be trusted. Obviously someone paid them off to pass these homes and if you Google carefree you'll see the thousand of others that did not get their homes fixed either. If anyone wishes to start a class action lawsuit let me know I'll be more than happy to help out in any way.

Craftsman ship sucks, They have you do a blue tape walk and house isn't ready. No back splash, finial paint , tile work sucks! Who puts silicone on grout in a shower. If your driving by it looks good, open the door and walk holy wow. Paint splash all over tile and carpet. Door has holes in jam. Super says we can't fix that, it's from shipping. What?? We bought the biggest house they sale and I have spent more time cleaning paint , repair texture spots, repairs after repairs. Electrical face plate came off. My 2 year brings it to me and said dad is this it's broken. Very scary. Outlets that are 3 feet from water or sink needs to be GFI, nope not here under sink j box on another j box with an outlet no GFI! Under the sink guys come on. That's the first place leaks starts. No GFI in bathrooms , I do not know how they past the building finial with City. I'm very disappointed with this builder 300k house no detail work over all I will never tell anyone to buy from them. We have a few people ask us over the weekends when they come out and walk there homes, I just shake my head. They will never fix issues the superintendent will beg you to sign blue tape paper and tell you that you have me for the next 30 days. Lmao called and doesn't answer. If you buy a home here hold your ground and the superintendent doesn't even walk the house with you. They send someone who knows nothing about your home. Then he will call and rush to get everything done and beg you to sign off. The best part about this hole experience is that I was told the construction manager walks the home before you close! For real he must been on vacation when we closed.

Rene, Rosalinda, Lorenzo, and Karina were absolutely phenomenal throughout the entire process. From a sand lot in July to closing in December, they were helpful, communicative, and reassuring at every turn. We couldn't have asked for a better experience, and are looking forward to enjoying our 'forever for now' home for years to come!

Other damaged drawer front. Damaged during installation and Carefree refuses to repair damage.

Lack of quality, workmanship. Most everyone working there has a don't give damn attitude. Regret buying this house and looking to sell it soon.

Hollow rock walls and a thin layer of cement covering dirt is what they call Quality

During the one-year warranty period we contacted Edward Homes many times, by phone and email, to have the issues corrected. They rarely returned calls, missed scheduled appointments, and when subcontractors finally came out, they offered only superficial fixes. One subcontractor even handed us a can of paint and told us to "touch it up ourselves," rather than repairing the underlying problems. Three years later the cabinets remain uneven and cheaply finished, exactly as they were when we moved in. We followed all warranty procedures and have detailed records of our attempts to get proper service. Homebuyers deserve better follow-through and professionalism. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Edward Homes to anyone expecting quality workmanship or reliable warranty support.

Closed on home March 10, 2025. Have been working through warranty portal and email to attempt to…read moreresolve a problem with the countertops to no avail. There is something wrong with the "quartz" finish, it it is actually quartz, causing it to stain when anything is set down on it, even if immediately wiped off. In addition there are horrible buffs/swirls and blemishes on the countertops that are not normal for quartz. Hakes' attempt at resolution was to have countertop company come out and clean the counters, which did nothing as the problem is in the finish. They then suggested sealing it which I have a problem with as 1. quartz does not need to be sealed 2. even if it were sealed, all the blemishes/swirls/stains would then also be sealed in 3. sealing would have to be done on an ongoing basis as the island is the biggest problem and we cook and use that daily. We have had warranty team out and then some additional construction team to no avail. Last meeting was an utter waste of time as the Hakes rep wouldn't even look at the problems, even after being pointed out by other Hakes employees. As we have had to have all the cabinet doors and drawers replaced (still waiting on those) because the finish/clearcoat was not done correctly, there is obvious history of poor craftmanship and materials used in build process. We have asked Hakes to either refund $5390 we paid for "upgraded quartz" in order for us to have countertops replaced or to have Hakes replace them.

Awful quality homes due to lacking attention or concern for detail. The superintendent we had was…read moreNeal Smith. We pointed out several issues with the home during the final walkthrough and demanded repairs. He dismissed a lot of unacceptable things including but not limited to paint splashed all over, concrete splashed all over, incomplete grout and tiling, grout splashed into the actual shower drain clogging it, a garage door seal too short in length, a garage floor with dysfunctional concrete, lacking crickets and seals along the roof that could have led to leaks, a crooked window placed so poorly it wouldn't open or close, the wrong color of stucco painted around the window when replaced etc the list goes on. Upon Neal's attempt to repair these things (he took it upon himself for a few projects), we found the end result actually worse. He didn't wish to hire anyone capable of doing the job correctly. Hakes has a severe problem with identifying what is wrong with their homes due to the work not being done correctly the first time, and thus larger problems on attempted repair. While the tile was repaired and many things were (because we are knowledgeable home owners), these are things that should have been done right the first time. Our shower tile was pooling water due to uneven tiles placed and they all had to be repaired. Hakes was taking shortcuts on the repair and the workmen who came to do so were honest with us and informed us they were doing it how Hakes wanted them to, not how the correct work is supposed to be done. Having to babysit Hakes and their "workers" on these repairs to ensure they are done correctly and not with crooked intent to save themselves money was really exhausting and required a lot of time off of work. It was nothing but inconvenient to have to have SO much redone when we had already moved in because the repairs took so long and the work wasn't done right originally!!! Unethical people. There are ethical issues with these people. Never buy a house from Hakes Brothers. Contact me and I will provide you with further details and information if you have any questions.

Highly recommended…read more I basically stumbled across Yvonne online while house hunting. Lucky me. Before we met she provided me with MLS info based on my requirements. And before we met, I found the house I wanted just from the online info. It was New Year's Eve and she went to bat to get all the paperwork done that day. She found out someone else was making an offer on the house so she helped me with the offer details to ensure I'd be the winner. She's very responsive to random questions, important or trivial. One of the seller's requirements was a 30-day close. I didn't anticipate a problem because I was already pre-qualified by the mortgage company that I'd used before. Turns out they are so under-staffed they said they'd not be able to do anything in 30 days. Yvonne had a referral at hand - Cheryl Montenegro at Finance Home America - who made the deadline without any problem (or at least for me). Yvonne is also great on referrals for service suppliers. I'm fairly new in El Paso so her experienced advice is very useful.
