I have stated numerous times, about the amazing businesses within walking distance from my home, what a treat to find yet another. I don't mind traveling, but am so impressed at the quality of businesses in this "small" town of Firestone. This place lived up to the same expectations. While we don't need to visit often, our dog is relatively healthy...she has had to go for an infection on a developing growth. My husband took her in, getting an appointment was simple process, they saw her, issued her meds and didn't cost us an arm and a leg. They have a side area, right off the waiting room for pet care products. And also offer grooming services. What truly impressed me was recently this growth has grown, and being concerned I was able to walk in and chat with someone. Our dog is getting up there in years, in some ways out living other dogs her size. I had many questions as to what to do about this growth. I took a picture of it, and thought I would just go in, see if someone had a minute to chat, and help me talk through my thoughts. The gal (wish I remembered her name!) at the front desk took as long as I needed to help me work through all the various options, not only giving me insight and fees, but to use hydro-peroxide and neosporin to keep it clean. Something I have noticed since moving here, people seem to truly have time for you, and a willingness to help. We recently returned to CVVC after going elsewhere for a few years due to specific surgical issues with our pups. Our past 2 visits have been really good. Everyone is nice and our pups do well here. Every visit to the vet is expensive if you don't have pet insurance. But our boys are worth it and we felt the cost was competitive and reasonable. And it's a closer drive for us. 5 stars. UPDATE: chewy.com got denied approval to sell me insulin because carbon valley requires paper prescriptions, which they never wrote me, after diagnosing my dog with diabetes, this despite the fact that they recommended I not purchase insulin from them and instead go to chewy, this is my dog's life and well-being Brought my dog in when he wet the bed, my worst fears were realized, he's diabetic, The vet I got either has no idea what she's doing or no idea how to talk to people, I got a brief tutorial on how to inject insulin from the assistant, and was left to fend for myself, Went in for a follow up with the same DVM and found out his blood sugar was the same and was told to increase my dose, I told her my plan and asked when I should come back for a follow up, she told me to buy a home glucose tester. Great. thanks. Found out myself after follow up that I was dosing wrong because I mistakenly bought U100 syringes thinking they were the same unit volume as U40, thankfully I thought to look it up because the Vet had no interest in asking to make sure I understood what I was doing when his Blood sugar hadn't changed Didn't ask me any life style questions to help me figure out how it developed, couldn't tell me if it was type 1 or type 2, the follow up appointment felt like I was being handled as a formality, I come to the vet to get help from a professional, not get test results read to me read more

This clinic will nickel and dime you to death. My dog needed a nail trim. I called for a same day appointment and was informed she had to get updated on her Bordetella vaccine in order to get her nails trimmed. When I questioned why, the answer was insufficient but I still went. My bill for the nail trim/vaccine came to $48.95. Bordetella is an oral vaccine. I was charged $2.07 for "biomedical waste disposable". I asked about this charge after they said it was oral, the answer I got was that they needed to use a needle to get the vaccine out of the vial and then dispose of it. Prior to this visit, I had given them the benefit of the doubt earlier in the year when I boarded my dogs there. I proportioned out their food for the 2 days they were boarded. One of my dogs was eating a food recommended by this clinic that I purchased there. When I picked them up, an entire bag of food was charged to my bill because they claimed he didn't have enough food and they had to open a new bag. They did not call me to get approval ( he could have eaten some of my other dog's food) which I don't purchase from them and interestingly enough, had some of her proportioned food left when I picked them up. I'm done with Carbon Valley Animal Hospital. I'll drive 30 min to another clinic rather than give them another dime. read more

Absolute crooks. I asked for pricing before vaccinations, which they did not provide, only called to tell me the total amount, which was TRIPLE the amount I had paid before. (Yes I have documentation to back that up). The staff is friendly, but save your bank account and go anywhere else! These people all but steal from you. NEVER AGAIN read more

this place is amazing. the staff are all so attentive and kind, from the receptionists to the techs and up to the doctors. they're always great with my pets and i wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. i cannot recommend this clinic enough! read more

We've had a real mixed bag at this vet, unfortunately. Dr Bagg is someone who I'd recommend, and if you only see him it's probably worth going. However Dr. Ukrainchuk appears to have the "bed side" manners of Josef Mengele. We used to go to this facility regularly when we lived in Firestone, but once we moved out to Mead we started going to a traveling vet. Since she stopped traveling, we decided to go back here instead of trying a new vet. We just got a new kitten from a friend of my wives friend who isn't a very responsible pet owner, so we got one of the kittens before it went to the shelter (or worse), and had a pretty good infection going on. So as mentioned above my wife and daughter took the new kitten here, instead of our regular vet. Dr. Ukrainchuk walked into the exam room and was telling my wife and daughter to "take the cat back", it's got a very "nasty" virus that if you bring it back to the house will put all of our other pets in danger. She wouldn't tell my wife what the name of the virus was, just insisted it was "nasty". My daughter was pretty much in tears, as this was her new kitten. My wife did convince Dr. Ukrainchuk to give her medication to treat the kitten- and as it turns out it was even the right medication, so there is that. My wife decided to go get a 2nd opinion and drove 45 min's to where our current vet is setting up a new office. After she examined the kitten, she told my wife it was nothing out of the ordinary, and is pretty common in "barn" kittens (essentially what this cat was), that the medicine we got was the same she would have given, and that it is very unlikely our other cat would catch this virus as it was already likely exposed to it (stray cat that adopted us) and therefor immune, and our dogs were in zero danger. So, while all well that ends well we won't be going back to this facility, even though we do like Dr. Bagg - he took great care of our pets before. I'd give Dr. Bagg 4+ stars and Dr. Ukrainchuk 0 stars. read more

The negative reviews of this clinic are Completely unfounded. YES, they give Written estimates! They ASK if you want your pet to have certain services while being boarded. You absolutely have the freedom to discuss procedures, accept or not accept. To read the negative reviews here... complete and unadulterated lies. I know. I was a regular patron there before I moved to Florida. People, do not trust what you read! This clinic is professional, ethical, and honest. They care immensely for you and your pet(s). The people who write these negative reviews have some sort of axe to grind and their reviews Certainly should be taken with a grain of salt (or a whole salt shaker)! Unbelievable. read more

We had a very poor experience with Carbon Valley Animal Hospital. In a nutshell, the vet seemed to have very limited experience with birds and very little common sense. We took our cockatiel in to have his nails trimmed and check his flight feathers. He loves sitting on soft things, so when is nails grow too long he can get himself stuck. We are new to the area and decided to give this place a try. We had an appointment but still waited for 50 minutes in the examination room for the vet. I get that sometimes things happen that make a doctor a bit late, but nobody came by to check in on us or tell us there was a major delay, and there was no mention of the long wait by the staff when the vet finally came in. In addition to trimming nails, we asked the vet to check if new flight feathers had grown in and to trim them if necessary. We always trim the outermost 4 flights on our bird. That lets him flutter around and land easily but limits him flying into things and getting hurt. We asked the vet to check and trim flights 1-4. This is the common 'lay-person' terminology used for those familiar with parrots; this is the terminology we were taught by our first avian vet and that has been used with 4 different vets across 3 different states. What this vet actually did was trim the interior 4 flight feathers on both wings. In her possible defense, if your only experience with birds comes from textbooks in veterinary school, bird 'flight' or primary feathers number from the inside out in anatomy textbooks. So, she clipped P1-P4. What baffles me is that anyone with training with birds should know that trimming the interior flights without a real reason is absolutely inappropriate. Further, a person with common sense might have looked at the bird's wing, noticed that the feathers that are still clipped (except for one new feather) are the outermost 4, and then asked a follow-up question instead of just cutting. Now our bird drops like a rock when he tries to flutter to the ground. It will be at least 6 months of him being a danger to himself until enough flights grow back in to compensate for the vet's airhead moment. I would not recommend Carbon Valley Animal Hospital. They don't seem to know what they're doing, at least not with smaller animals. The site management was very disappointing, and they don't seem to know how to communicate well with clients. read more

We've been using them for four years on our two dogs and bunny. I think out of 30 visits we had one visit where we had a weird questionable moment, but it was fixed. Otherwise we have been happy through surgeries, groomings, etc. read more

Very caring and good staff. Nice doctor. VERY reasonable fees. I visited this veterinarian's office when my mom had to put her puppy to sleep. A very sad time, to say the least. The staff and doctor were extremely sensitive and very good to my mom, and her dog. The fee was very reasonable. They even sent a card later in the week offering their condolences. I don't want to be one of those people who complains but this place was really bad. The female vet is very hard to understand with a really thick Russian accent I think. My pet saw the vet for maybe 3 minutes and they classified it as an "exam" and I left with a bill of close to $250. I have taken my pet here several times in years past and saw Dr Bagg who was great. He used to be friendly and would work with me on treatment options. Forget this new vet, she is terrible. I have many friends in the area who say they have stopped taking their pets here because she is money-hungry and rude. Just think people should be warned. read more

Should have read the reviews first. I had the unfortunate encounter with Dr. Ukrainchuk. I have a very sick dog and had to drop her off and told the Dr I knew they would run blood work and hydrate. Well, she decided without my consent to treat my dog and then call me AFTER the fact. This was the first time my dog was seen here so they only had her vaccine record. I never signed anything giving them permission to do anything. One of the services they did was a penicillin injection. What happens if my dog was allergic? They had NO idea because she did not bother calling me before things were done to her. I asked the Dr if they had to amputate her leg would she have bothered calling me first or just cutting it off? She said well of course I would have, okay then why is this situation any different? She argued with me saying I have her permission to give her meds. I'm sorry if you do not understand English, but I gave you permission for blood work and hydration because I knew blood work was needed to come up with the diagnosis which I then expected the Dr to CALL ME BEFORE A TREATMENT PLAN WAS DONE! I am baffled they performed services on my dog without notifying me first. I am in the healthcare field and you do not provide ANY services without first going over the diagnosis and treatment plan and ASKING/signing consent. She claims she is looking out for your animal but really just wants money. I live 2 minutes down the street and will be notifying all my neighbors to stay away. read more

When I adopted my puppy from Lifeline Puppy Rescue, I chose this vet off the list. I was given a puppy check up visit for free. When my sister in law was given a new puppy told her about my vet. She asked if I could bring her dog to the vet for her since she was working. I called Carbon Valley and I said literally, " We were given a new puppy and I am wondering if you will do a free visit for her." The person who answered the phone said "yes, we do new puppy exams" and made the appointment the same day. When I went to leave the receptionist said, "You still have to pay." I told her I don't understand, I had called and they told me the first visit is free because I said free in my question and the answer was yes.... simply yes... not yes but only for shelter adopeted puppies...., the "nurse" came out of the back room and said she didn't remember me saying given to us..... None the less they charged me $52.00 for the puppies first visit because they only give free 1st check ups when a dog is adopted from a shelter... It's not like I bought the dog from a breeder or anything. They should have told me that on the phone, they should have asked, "Did you get the dog from a shelter?" to which I would have replied, "No." and they should have told me about the charge and I could have told my sister in law to go to another vet, no harm, no foul. I guess I should have lied after they lied about not hearing me correctly on the phone and just told them I got the dog from a shelter...... They just lost two clients.... read more
