Service was prompt-- we were seated almost immediately once our whole group was gathered, and immediately began to be served. Meats came out fast. They have a 3 meat at a time limit here, but given that they're doing most of the cooking for you, it helps keep things fresh and things are coming off the grill pretty quickly anyways, so the limit does not really come at the cost of velocity of consumption (if you're that kind of AYCE eater). Service here is pretty proactive, coming by regularly and taking orders promptly. We got a mix of meats and sides throughout. Pork belly is a winner, both slabs and slices. Beef intestines were not as we remembered from other locations, but nonetheless good. Sliced beef brisket and jowl are also good cuts for folks looking for something new. Not too much of a fan of marinated meets, but I'm sure they'd live up to the same level of quality too. One huge plus about this particular chain (for which you do pay a bit of a premium in the price) is that they have pretty amazingly efficient grills and vents, such that you can largely avoid smelling like your AYCE KBBQ afterwards. Pretty uncommon, and totally forgivable when it happens, but a nice plus for this place!

Coordinating a group that size is never easy, but the staff was very accommodating they kept things moving, checked in often, and made sure we had what we needed. The food was a1. From the grill the short rib was the star! the hot pot miso soup was everything and satisfying just what I needed to combat the cold weather. There was plenty to go around, and the interactive cook-it-yourself vibe made it perfect for a group celebration. Definitely one of those meals where everyone is talking, laughing, and tasting a little bit of everything. That said, there were a few notes. A couple of items were brought out that we didn't order, which caused a bit of confusion at the table. Nothing major. Even with that, the experience was fun and delicious overall, and I genuinely had a great time celebrating here.

I opted for the mushroom soup and it was pretty flavorful. There are a variety of vegetables, meat, seafood, noodles, etc. to choose from. Some of my favorites include scallops, dumplings, udon, and fishballs. There is also a birthday freebie but you have to bring 3 other people with you. For $32 AYCE, it wasn't bad at all! I would return.

Everything's made-to-order, so don't expect grab-and-go fast food. Food was still steaming by the time we made it home. The chicken tasted seasoned to the bone. We tried about 3 sauces and really loved them all. We thought the soy honey and sweet & spicy gave a really nice tang to the chicken, without being too overpowering. And of course, even sauced up, everything stayed nice and crispy. Even my in-laws (who are boomer-level picky) liked it. Will definitely be heading back there soon.

The chicken was so juicy and fresh, even the tenders, and it had the right amount of crisp without being overly battered. I got the soy garlic and sweet and spicy, and both sauces were really tasty and had me wishing I got extra for dipping. The sweet and spicy was definitely my fav, but it could have been more spicy. The box for the family set was so sturdy and nice, and the amount of food you get for the price is incredible. Even the fries that come with the set were nice and crispy without being overly greasy. The employee at the front was also so nice and welcoming. My expectations were nonexistent going into this since food options on the island have been a little bleak, but I'm absolutely blown away and will absolutely be a regular.

They specialize in a variety of jarred kimchi that you normally see in grocery stores. The price per jar is anywhere between $10-$15. They also have a weekly (changing) menu offering Korean homemade soups and lunch. I got a pork kimchi ($13 after taxes) and it was delicious. This brought up so much childhood memories of a time when my dad worked at a local Cheung Fun place in Chinatown. You feel something inside that you don't normally get when you go to a crowded / fancier restaurant. It feels like "home" in a sense. I love a small business like Kimchi Kooks Kate's Kitchen because it adds characters to the local business. :) The staff are friendly and because there is an open kitchen, you can see them make your food. Although no seating, you can always grab the food and get a slice of pizza next door and have a meal at the pizzeria's outdoor seating. :)

I picked up a small jar of their classic white kimchi ($8.32), which I was so excited to try because white kimchi is traditionally made with pine nuts and it's difficult to find a nut-free version at supermarkets. I thought the kimchi had a pleasant tang, though it was a little savorier than I expected. The variety of banchan was also excellent-- I counted 21 different dishes as well as 4 different types of sauces. I picked up a miyeok and dubu muchim ($8.32) which was a seaweed salad tossed with firm tofu crumbles. I intended to eat it for dinner, but I finished the whole container before I got home because it was so addictive and delicious. If you have any questions, a staff member is at hand but everything is neatly labeled with an explanation of ingredients. Their kitchen is open on Wed-Sun so I'd love to return to try a weekend special, which rotates on a weekly basis. Kimchi Kooks is located a short walk away from Owl's Head Park and the pier, so I would definitely recommend grabbing a few banchan to-go if the weather is nice! PS- A staff member kindly let me know that all the kimchis are nut-free and that if you bring the glass jar back, you get $1 off your next purchase.

Every dish is perfectly crafted with precision and delicious every time I visit here. It's my home away from the fatherland home which is South Korea. My mother agrees . You can't beat that. SERVICE: The enduring owners have built a legacy here that will be remembered for generations. They were recently highlighted as a BEST local hidden gem restaurant in the Staten Island Advance, the premier newspaper in Staten Island. Speaks volumes enough that they still do the heavy lifting and serving the dishes to the tables in their golden years. My heart fills with pride to be a Korean born in the USA and my eyes begin to well up as I think about the countless sacrifices they have made to make it here to be as successful and legendary as they are and will always be. That I'll never fully understand in many lifetimes over. AMBIANCE: This immaculately designed restaurant has just the perfect lighting and generous space for intimate dining and conversation. It feels like I'm dining at a five-star rated restaurant, but even better. I don't lie if I said I would give this oasis a seven-star rating. That's how good I feel about this place. P.S. I got the sushi tempera roll combo which was a good combination of shrimp, chicken, and spider (soft shell crab). It was pretty good, but it was unclear if it came with soup and salad but they were dropped off and we had to check and the server seemed confused what we were checking about. My husband got a steak and scallop hibachi bento box dinner. The steak was fine, but the vegetables it came with ere really onion-heavy (like 80%), and rice and noodles were pretty flavorless. They didn't taste freshly cooked, with a firmness to them. Some people in our group didn't get the food until way after, to the point we had to follow up and see if it had been forgotten. The service was okay. I know groups are hard, but we were also on a weeknight early when there weren't other groups. The parking lot is okay but a little small. The food was okay, but it wasn't anything special. The family liked it though, so maybe there are some better hits in there.
