They did a great job in recommending what was needed to be repaired: brakes and rotors (front and back), engine light issue needed an oxygen sensor, car had to be started in neutral (replaced a switch - knew right away what was the cause. Once upon a time, I moved to Cincinnati with a pretty raggedy car and a dream. Let's just say that the dream has lasted longer than the car. Over the course of the last 7 1/2 years, my wife & I have been taking our cars to Car-X to get everything from oil changes, to tires, to brakes, to major work under the hood - and they have always provided a great experience at reasonable pricing. I needed a 200K mile checkup on both of my vehicles and I am completely new to the area. I settled on Car-X Tire & Auto because of the reviews I had read, and I was so glad that I did! I was very nervous about what I would be told was needed due to the age of my vehicles but that was definitely not my experience. Great, quick service. As a succinct background, my detailed knowledge about cars is limited. So when I went to Car-x regarding my car dying while the engine was running, I was quite worried about many issues. I had the battery replaced at another place (due to convenience of where my car had died) but they couldn't fix everything. So I went to this Car-x (based on reviews). The facility is nice & clean. They got me in immediately, the manager was professional, kind and quick to assist me. He was concerned about a couple things that he told me right away. He did a diagnostic, found a happy solution and fixed the issue. Luckily it was an easier fix than it could have been. Overall, great & speedy service. Honest work. read more

Let me tell you! I believe this place has saved me from spending $2000 dollars in the past few months! The first time I stop there was just by chance, I use to go to another place in the anderson area to get oil changes and what not. I ask the place I use to go to, to look in to a problem I been having with the car breaks and all, they told me that the tire rod need to be replaced. They wanted me to spend so much money, so I called the dealership for my car, and they told me they would want around a $100 to see if there is a problem, but they can fix it based on what the other place told, and said wasn't there problem if it ended up not being the real problem. So When I stoped at Car-X they look into it, and showed me that the tire rod was ok, and told that one of the breaks had a jammed and they fix it. The other day I got an oil change from another place, and they told there was a problem with the and around it, they wanted me to be about $1200, so I stop at Car-X and again they showed me the problem, and only cost me about $320. safe to say I trust this place. I'd give ZERO stars if possible. Using this shop is a dangerous gamble. I was a regular customer for a couple of years, for oil changes and a brake service. There were no issues during that time. Recently, I had an oil change and tire mounting done there. Next day, the oil was leaking due to them stripping out the oil pan bolt. They let me drive away without telling me, and they HAD to know about it. Then I noticed all 4 new tires were leaking air. Had to pay a different shop to remove the tires and inspect the rims. They told me Car-X had failed to clean and prepare the rims for the new tires, AND they had re-used the old valve stems, even though they had charged me for new ones!! That shop remounted the tires properly, with new valve stems, and I had no more issues with leaking. I had yet a different shop fix the oil pan, and I had to pay them for another oil change, of course. I was NOT going to bring my car back to the CROOKS at Car-X and try to get them to fix their mess. Even if they had agreed to, it would still be a case of crooks working on my car. No way. They have lost my business forever, not just at Asbury, but at ANY Car-X location. read more

The ONLY reason they get two stars is because they have given my family over a decade of decent service and we have gotten discounts in the past for services. However, after my most recent experience with them, I will never be returning and neither will my family. I had my car in about a month ago to get the AC looked at. I wasn't expecting it to be fixed that very day and they gave me fresh Freon and told me I would need to replace the air compressor and several other components for the AC system. I was told that if I phoned in advance, made an appointment, and told them what was wrong that they'd make sure to have the parts on hand so the work could get done in one afternoon. I was warned that it probably wouldn't get done in one afternoon, but it would be easily finished the next morning. I called about three weeks later to make an appointment. I told the person who answered that I needed my AC system replaced (air compressor, hoses, etc) and an oil change. The first sign should have been that they didn't even care what type of car I had. I made an appointment for an oil change at the same time. I allowed five days between my call and the appointment. My father also stopped by the next week to get his oil changed and reminded the tech who helped him of my appointment later that week. The tech even remembered my car and the issue it had. Fast forward to my appointment day and I drop my car off. I got a call THREE HOURS LATER telling me of the issues I already KNEW and had TOLD THEM about when I dropped the car off AND made the appointment. So not only did they NOT LISTEN TO ME on those occasions, they wasted time looking at an issue they already knew about. The tech tells me the final price and the work needed (again, well aware of it) and tells me THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS. What is the point of making an appointment and TELLING YOU the issue five days in advance if you aren't going to be prepared to fix it when I come in to the appointment?!?! I get that they might have discovered other issues in the process, but they KNEW about certain parts before I even brought the car in. They didn't even have THOSE on hand. They had to order them. So my car sat there overnight and didn't get ANY work done on it until the next day. If they had ordered the parts they KNEW they needed, they could have at least started the process. Finally when they called the next day (more than 24 hours after having my car) they DIDN'T EVEN HAVE THE OIL CHANGED. So I had to wait even longer. They at least could have done that the day beforehand while waiting for the parts. Again, what's the point of telling them why you need an appointment if they aren't even going to complete the services you request?!?! This whole experience just left a terrible taste in my mouth. They lack good communication here and need to learn how to take notes on each car so that ANY tech can do the work at ANY time and not waste time poking around under the hood to find the issue themselves. They need to listen to their customers and order parts in advance when they know the customer's needs. If they had an oil change coming in and knew they were out of oil for that car, they wouldn't wait to order it until the car arrived. No, they'd order it in advance because they knew it was required. Add to the fact that they didn't even spell my name right on the receipt OR put it under the correct last name! It was all just one big cluster-f**k and I won't be returning. EDIT: Today after being out of town for four days, I returned to find the AC not working at all! It's back to where it was when the problem first started! The car sat in a driveway the whole time and it's not working. It went from being 32 degrees (the tech's own words) to barely dipping below 100 degrees! These hacks either lied to me about the services provided or they did shoddy work. Stay away. They used to be so great. But since Herb left it's gone way downhill. read more

I previously had work done a few times at the one on Smith Rd, as it was also recommended to me. This location was far superior to the one on Smith. VERY CLEAN first of all. They were able to squeeze me in basically immediately last summer and this summer for a tire rotation and brake inspection on 2 separate vehicles. It was a very relaxing atmosphere, and did not seem chaotic like the one I had gone to before (at other location). And, most importantly, I believe they were very honest. I had taken in last summer my 94 Accord, and was curious what they would say about the brakes, as I had barely driven it since the brakes had been replaced over 5 years ago. They said the brakes looked good, and still had 80% life. Then recently I took in my boyfriend's minivan for same service (tire rotation and brake inspection). They again, said that his tires were in need of rotation, which I knew he was 500 miles overdue getting rotated, and we had never really had the brakes looked at, and they said they were getting even wear and still had a fair amount of life left. The manager, Chris Burkhardt was very personable, and helpful. I will definitely be taking our cars there in the future for any brake service needed. If you live in Anderson or surrounding areas, I highly recommend taking your car here. read more

Great experience! I took my daughters 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid in to get inspected due a noise under the hood. In my experience, a lot of car shops take advantage of a young female when it comes to car repairs. The tech at CarX was honest and thorough; they did not try to sell me parts or services I did not need. He explained what he found during the inspection in a way that was easy to understand. The gentlemen at our local Car X have been working on our cars for years! They know us personally, they go the extra mile and they always have a smile! They have done a super job at acquiring tires for us and discounting them due to prices being better elsewhere, they have replaced the brakes and aligned our tires with every oil change.
