Dealing with this company was quite a nightmare. First of all, I want to address their "30-day unconditional money back guarantee" that they advertise everywhere. They are careful not to mention it, and try to slip it through the paperwork, but you actually have to pay an extra $200 for that guarantee, and its mandatory! But that is really just a minor detail in my incident, lets get to it:
I saw a car I was interested on their website, it was priced high for the particular model and year, compared to similar cars in the area, but it appeared to be in good shape (from the ad) so I was willing to pay a bit more if that was the case. I know it had already been sitting on the lot for at least a month, as I had seen advertisements for it several times over the preceding weeks. Despite having it for that long, they had done nothing more than park it and wash the exterior. Just sitting in the car I quickly found multiple things broken as well as stains and dirt, and when I say dirt I don't mean the usual grime, there was sand all over the dash! It didn't look like they had tried to fix anything on the car or even vacuum the interior. The salesman assured me that they had already done a full Quebec safety on the car, as someone else was lined up to buy the car but had backed out (Hmm I wonder why they backed out?). I was uneasy at this point, but I liked the car, and after they promised to fix the obvious issues, I put down a deposit.
Next I had them bring the car to my mechanic for an inspection. The mechanic wasn't looking at the car for more than 10 minutes when he calls in the supervisor. The supervisor brings me in the garage and starts pointing out problems: Ebrake doesn't work (What? They said it was safetied!), rear bumper was involved in a collision (it didn't show up on the carfax and they didn't mention it), paint was peeling off the back bumper, the AC condenser was torn up and literally falling apart, the rubber drive belt had a big groove worn into it ready to fall apart at any minute. To top it off, the frame rails were rusting pretty bad, and hadn't been treated in any way. Whats worse is the salesman knew about all of these problems (including the collision), excepting the ac condenser, but the condenser was in such bad shape I can't believe their mechanic wouldn't have seen it if they actually inspected the car.
After some back and fourth, they claimed they would fix the problems that the mechanic found (excepting the rusted frame rails) if I followed through with the purchase. I told them they would have to pay for the next inspection (I already paid $100 for the first one), but they refused. To me, that cemented a bad taste in my mouth from this dealership; if you are not willing to fork out $100 for a potential $8000 sale after already wasting the customers time and money, you have no integrity. I decided to cut my losses at the cost of the first inspection and go look somewhere else, as I had extreme doubts that they would fix the problems properly, and even if they did, I imagine the second inspection would find more problems still.
I found the sales person I interacted with to be very friendly and quite helpful. The managers, however, were not pleasant to deal with at all. The first manager I dealt with was unfriendly and seemed to not care about my needs at all, which is rather concerning when you are making such a huge purchase. The second manager was friendly, but again didn't care about needs and was hell bent at convincing me to buy the car no matter what (lots of sales pressure from him). I was given a huge story about how they paid too much for the car and would be taking a loss on it by selling it to me for their already inflated price. Lots of papers with big numbers were shuffled around. I have no idea if they were bluffing or they really were taking a loss, but it doesn't matter because as the customer I don't care about your profit margin, all I care about is getting a decent, safe car for a reasonable price, but clearly these folks were only concerned about the numbers in their books. I really didn't appreciate their attempt to guilt me into the sale, and I think it is highly inappropriate to share your finances with a customer in the first place.
The one positive thing I can say, is that when I made it clear that I didn't want the car and asked for my deposit back, they refunded it in full and didn't make it difficult. But that is a small consolation for wasting my time and money. read more
