So I take it in to Torrance Motors without an appointment and ask if they could take a quick look at it to verify it is still safe to drive, as we had a long upcoming trip in a few days. They right away put it up on the lift and verified that it was safe to drive. However, the control arm, tie rods and bushings (leaking grease) were shot. Showed me the pictures and it was a mess. This level of repair was not cheap...but it was reasonable. No more complaints from my wife...at least about the car.

They stand behind their work and even told me to come back if anything needed to be re-torqued after the suspension settled. The results came out great. The stance looks much better with the factory rake reduced, and the ride quality still feels smooth and OEM-like. No noises, vibrations, or issues afterward. Don't recommend. Told me to complete replace fuel tank because I had a fuel leak. It was just a…read morematter of replacing fuel level sending unit. As well telling me to replace transmission when another shop told me it was not needed. I feel as they just tried to get money out of me and just didn't want to work with me giving me the most ridiculous repairs. Never gave me the quote for fixes. Just gave me a wide range of things that they recommended to do and when I asked for a quote they never sent it. Better shops out there. Recommend getting other diagnosis before proceeded with them. Had charged me $180 for a diagnosis that was wrong and gave me no real solutions.

Torrance Auto Repair came up in a Reddit discussion recommending some of the better shops in the area, so I decided to give them a try. I brought my car in for an alignment and also asked Jimmy to give me an overall evaluation of the vehicle. From the beginning, he was transparent, helpful, and respectful. After completing the alignment, Jimmy explained what other work my car may need and gave me his recommendations. What I really appreciated was that there was no pressure to spend money right away. He simply let me know what to keep an eye on, encouraged me to stay in touch, and recommended following up when needed. That kind of honesty goes a long way with me. I'm always looking for trustworthy people when it comes to maintaining my car, and Jimmy gave me the confidence that I was getting straightforward advice rather than being pressured into unnecessary repairs. I'm entirely confident I just got billed 200 dollars to hear the diagnosis for someone else's car…read more First, I would say communications were very poor. Brought my car in Monday, was told they would contact me monday, or Tuesday at the latest. Wednesday rolled around and I had not heard from them so I called in. They patch me through to the mechanic who OF COURSE tells me I need a new engine. My car was making a knocking noise which I thought was maybe a loose valve rocker, or worst case a rod bearing. The noise was coming from the top of the engine, so I was thinking valve related. Here's where it got super suspicious. The mechanic told me there was zero oil in my car, and that the engine codes I had given them were of no help. As fact, I had checked my oil the day before driving in, and it was at the perfect level. As fact, I did not give them any codes. I assured the mechanic there was oil in the car, he told me there was none and my engine was cooked. Needed a new one. I asked for pricing. He gave me a ballpark but said he can check around for a reconditioned engine. I asked him to put together a full, formal estimate and let me know a price. He said he would get back to me today or tomorrow. I didn't hear back at that day or the next, so on friday I called in and said I will be picking up my car. And this is the wild part. As I walk up to the place, I see my car parked our front. Same make, same model, same color. TURNS OUT, it was not my car. Mine was parked out back. I drove my car across the street, parked, popped the hood and checked the oil. Completely perfect level. I sincerely beleive that they looked at the other car that was just like mine, which probably had no oil, and they read me the diagnosis for that car. Frustrated, I go home and start watching youtube videos about engine noises and possible fixes. 400 bucks in parts later and a lot if swear words, my car is no longer making the knocking noise and is running great. Maybe it was a fluke that they had two Chrysler 300s there at the same time, but it was wild how bad the communications were, and how the mechanic just flat out didn't believe me when I said it had plenty of oil and I never gave them codes. While I am happy to have saved anywhere from 8000 to 10,000 bucks, it does not sit well with me that I paid 200 bucks for non responsiveness and a diagnosis that was 100% off. Oh that reminds me, based on the condition of the engines dirt and grime, I am even MORE convinced that they never touched my engine.

He was so generous with his time over the phone before I even gave him my business. After taking my car there, he quickly got to it and checked off things my car would need aside from fixing the horn. He explained work cited necessary by Subaru that was not needed after he combed through the car himself and which work was needed. Patient in explaining details and the why's and why not certain claimed items needed repair. All in all, I got my car back the next day and paid a fraction of what I would have paid to fix my horn at Subaru! Albert repaired 4 areas for a less than what Subaru was charging for the one horn repair! Also, Subaru charges over 200.00 to do diagnostic in horn. Not refundable if you take elsewhere to be fixed.
