Transparent service! I've taken my car there twice (one for a shaky steering wheel and one for a check engine light). My car has 130,000+ miles so I was nervous both times of an expensive repair and being taken advantage of since I don't know much about cars. Both times he has shown me the parts and pieces he's talking about, explained what was going on and what he'd do, and fixed the issues for very reasonable prices. My friend has experienced the same thing. While I'm nervous of drawing more people and extending wait times, I appreciate his honesty and feel that he deserves the business! This place is an auto repair place specializing in Japanese and performance cars behind Rev Coffee in Smyrna. I really want to like them. I've been here several times, both times for issues that were complicated. They were not able to properly diagnose the issue either time and their fixes did not work. This time I was having issues with my car stalling out at stops, and heavy vibration at highway speeds. I needed (likely he thought) my throttle body cleaned out ($80 quote from him which sounded high, but he only charged my $50. Same service at dealership=$64) and for the vibrations, my front brakes that only had 20-25k miles on them replaced. NEITHER problem was improved after his repair, and I had to ultimately spend $500 at Ming's and $1800 at Subaru Stealership to fix my car that wasn't properly diagnosed. It turns out that it wasn't the throttle body, and my normal mechanic at Ming's Automotive in Doraville immediately diagnosed it and I had it confirmed by the dealership, with a faulty torque converter. Mechanics had been told to look out for this problem in the Subaru's, as it was a known defect. Additionally, I have doubts that the brakes were as bad he said. The front brakes (pads and turned rotors; not replacement) were $200 bucks. That is super high, especially since he used cheap brake pads (when the dealer inspected them 3 days later, they informed me that they didn't think they had been replaced because they were only at 6mm, when they should be 9-12mm). I'm sure this place is fine for basic maintenance, and simple repairs, but I definitely wouldn't call him the "car doctor". Plus he has "stealership" prices. Probably won't return. read more

I needed a roof antenna base replaced on one of my cars and I couldn't find anyone who could do the job or promptly deal with my needs. I saw great reviews on yelp for Connex and Chang, so figured I go visit him. He understood my needs and even wanted me to bring it in the next day (I couldn't as it was my birthday!). Brought it in first thing the day after and it was complete by lunchtime, for a decent price too! I had wanted to put a shark fin on the roof and Chang suggested not to as it wouldn't stick. Sure enough he showed me how thin the paint was on the car! I'll definitely be back with my two cars. I highly recommend this place! read more

Just left Chang's shop, after bringing in my Toyota to get a headlight bulb replaced. I was going to drop it off, and head to the coffee shop next door until it was done. Instead, Chang walked out, popped the hood, pulled the bad light, installed a replacement, and I was on my way in 5 minutes--and for a pittance. Typical for Car Connex. For over 10 years and 6 cars I have trusted my family's cars with Car Connex. Chang lets me know when a car is worth repairing and when its time to trade it in. I still compare prices and he continues to charge well below dealer service departments and he never tries to upsell you on added services. He will warn you if he finds some issue that may need fixed in the near future and tell you the cost to repair so you can comparison shop. These folks are honest and fair and take pride in their work. They will even inspect a car you are thinking about purchasing. Just one story to show the type of folks they are....Our car broke down the day before my daughters wedding and Chang took it in and fixed it right away at no charge as a gift to her! One of the most trustworthy mechanic I've been to. Chang is a good guy. I first heard of Car Connex through a friend who owns the same car as I did. Her entire family goes there. So I decided to try him out as well. One time, I took my old Honda to Car Connex for a weird sound. Chang looked it over and suggested that I don't need to fix that problem now. Instead, he showed a more immediate problem: my tires were worn out. He recommended me to change my tires and to get a wheel alignment. He even recommended Smyrna Tires to do it. He didn't even charge me for the time he took to look over my car. I thought that was cool of him. I took my car there a few more times to get stuff fixed. He seems reasonable and honest about the stuff he does. He also services a lot of different cars. He probably specializes in Asian cars, but it seems like he can probably fix different brand of cars. If he can't, he'll probably tell you and recommend you to another, good mechanic. read more

I'm new to this area and needed some serious car repairs done to my Dodge Stratus. The manager of a nearby Pep Boys referred me to Chang and Car Connex, and I'm so glad he did. Chang is one of the nicest people, period, and he and his mechanics do great work. After a recent repair, my car was having more serious issues and they fixed it gladly under warranty. His pricing is very fair and he really does everything he can to save the customer money and leave them happy with his work. He actually cares about his customers, and I gladly recommend him to anyone in the Atlanta area needing auto repair. A quick anecdote to sum it up: my girlfriend's check engine light came on and instead of going to the dealership she went to Car Connex on my recommendation. The owner of this shop, Chang, specializes in Asian imports although that's never stopped us from taking our Ford or BMW to him. Chang always looks out for us and will try to find the best deal available. His advice is spot on and he make sure we're happy with the service received. In one case, our master brake cylinder failed after 15 months and he made the manufacturer replace it even out of the 12 month warranty. We've been going to him for well over 3 years and he's always friendly. You can't go wrong with him and if he can't repair your car if it's out of his specialty - his recommendations have always worked out in our favor. read more

After a little research online I went into Chang's shop without an appointment *thinking* I would end up having to spend close to $2000 but I ended up spending less than $200. I left with a car running smoothly and advice about my specific model that will help it run longer. If the cost of repair had been much higher than it was, for me that meant getting an old model used car instead of getting the work done on this one. With none of my options looking very good at the time, I came straight to yelp to find a highly-reviewed mechanic that could help me make the right decision about what to do - not just somebody to charge me for repairing a car I might not keep. Car Connex had 100% good reviews which told me I could trust them - a critical factor for somebody like me who doesn't know much about what happens under the hood. When he looked into the problem Chang actually took time to speak with me about how much longer I was going to use this vehicle and what my options were; he even gave me an explanation of what exactly was happening under the hood in terms I could understand - relating it to my field of study which helped me see things better from his perspective. I'm not sure how he worked me in same-day and gave me a thorough helpful explanation, and got all the work done while I waited but he did. He even made sure to include the extra quart of oil I needed while still staying under the price he quoted me. I'll be back there every time I need help and I'm sending my friends too. Chang's shop is fabulous. He is absolutely as honest as they come and as regular customers for the last 7 years I feel very good about his pricing and service. The reviewer who went to a brake place and got better prices and faster service - of course you did. A full service shop can't have every piece for every model of car out there so they rely on carpart delivery. Luckily he is right behind Rev Coffee, so the wait is pretty easy to manage! I bought a newer car with a warranty from the dealership and learned the hard way that Chang takes much better care of us than they did. He gives great advice and is always there with a no nonsense approach. I have friends who do a lot of self-repair and when they get stumped, they head to Chang. read more

I've used the same mechanic over in Snellville for many years now but have relocated to east cobb. A friend recommended Chang's shop and I'm so glad that he did. I took my older Saab there and, let me tell you, Chang knows & loves cars. I had something very small to be fixed on the Saab...he took a look at it, made the adjustment and there was no charge! I thought I needed an expensive repair and he said "no" just this for now. Most shops would have come up with a $1,000 repair. Not Chang...he wouldn't even let me pay him something. He is working on my Sequoia this morning. It is refreshing to discover a repair shop that is 100% honest but where the workers actually enjoy what they do. You won't find that at the Big Boys. Don't be skeptical of the 5-star ratings. I'm an actual customer with over 20 years in metro Atlanta and I can tell you some stories about repair shops! Not sure how Chang has so many great reviews. We had a pretty poor experience. First off, there are a bunch of new scratches to the roof of my car on the driver's side that were NOT there when I dropped off my car. Secondly, (to no fault of his own), we had great difficulty understanding him (he just has quite a heavy accent). When my husband told him that he was having trouble understanding what he was saying, Chang just stopped explaining anything at all and just gave him the bill. Very unprofessional. We had a number of concerns that he made us write down. He had my car from a Saturday to the following Tuesday - all he did was change oil and 2 brake pads. Asked him to change a brake light - didn't do that, asked him to replace window wipers - didn't do that, asked him to check a blown fuse, didn't do that. Not only did he never address any of the other problems that we listed, he didn't even specifically explain anything that he actually did do. He told us over the phone that something was wrong with the engine, but never mentioned a word about in person. All I know is my engine has some problem - what is it? Who knows?! I have no idea what was done or what the car might still need because he just got frustrated and stopped talking. Pricing was so-so, $108 for labor for the little that he did seems expensive. Customer service was nonexistent. I've had my car for 12 years, worst mechanic I've ever been to. Now I have to go somewhere else just to get the other issues addressed. Waste of time, will NEVER go back, don't recommend. read more

He removed oxidation from my head lamps once for free after a repair- nice touch! I had a faulty wire on my battery cable that was about to start an engine fire, Chang fixed it for next to nothing and in less than 10 minutes. I saw the great reviews on Yelp and thought I had found my new trustworthy mechanic. I took my wife's 2003 Nissan Pathfinder in for an oil change and new breaks. I was told the rotors were in terrible shape and beyond repair, the spark plugs were bad, and several belts were worn and cracking. We spent $1000 to have all of this fixed. I banked on the reviews and took Chang's word. That was about a month ago. I took the car back in yesterday to have a valve cover looked at. Chang must have forgotten I had been there previously as he said my spark plugs needed replacing again. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. I would love to believe that these reviews are true, but do your homework. Get a second price and pay attention to what Chang says needs to be done. If the price is fair and someone else says he's right, then use him. Just be careful. read more

Being from out of town, your nightmare is having something go wrong with your vehicle and not having a trusted mechanic to go to. I can't tell you how many car nightmares I've had since living in Georgia and how many times some of these mechanics have tried to rip me off. Luckily, I went online and read some reviews before I had to have major work done to my truck. Chang is a genius when it comes to fixing vehicles. Yes, plenty of mechanics out there may know what they're doing, but most of them charge you much more than they should and they tend to "find" other things wrong and offer all kinds of suggestions to drain you dry. Not Chang. He diagnoses the issue, actually shows you what's wrong (so that you see he's not trying to get over on you), and then tells you what your options are and at what costs. There are no hidden costs with him, and even my skeptical husband agreed that this guy is honest and thorough. For that reason, after having engine work done, we have gone back to him for a window issue and A/C issues. He is now officially our family's mechanic.
