Family friendly, amazingly well designed rooms, interesting, tricky, fun, entertaining, challenging... there are not enough adjectives. Cake, candles, pizza, loot bags, decor... it was very easy. The best part was the experience of the escape room. The magic castle was fun, challenging and kept us on our toes. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a birthday party idea.

I'm limited by what I can say about the Great Escape by the promise that you make not to reveal details about it before you start. So this may be short on details and rather vague. But it was great fun and if you like puzzles, this will be a good activity for you. You must reserve ahead of time - you can book a group of 10 or, if you don't have that many, join another smaller group. I went for a friend's birthday party - some of us knew each other but others didn't. I do think that worked out better than a room of complete strangers but who can say? You'll pay ahead of time too (about $29 each) - our group leader paid for everyone and we just paid him back. You arrive 10 minutes before your start time and are guided upstairs for a "briefing." This is one of my few complaints - the building is not very well marked and the starting process is a bit unclear. If you don't know the address, you'll have a hard time finding it as there is only one poster in the window. Which, for the most part, is fine. It adds to the mystery. But we weren't sure how to get in (it was locked) or if we were just supposed to wait outside (I think you are). After the briefing, you're in the room. And... I really can't tell you much about that. You need to be observant, communicative, and a little creative. The amount of detail and effort that was placed into creating the room is fantastic. You can tell the creator really had a passion for this project. I could see this as a fun team-building event. It definitely worked for a birthday party (which kind of makes me wish I'd done it myself). My other major complaint: You can't really do it a second time. It was so much fun that I happily would but now I know the secrets and you can't really recreate the magic a second time.

The host, Alan, managed to stay in character while still conveying his genuine enthusiasm for the game. We quickly dove into the game and started working together. Our small group ended up working to our advantage; I know many people prefer larger groups with varied skills, but we liked it with just 4 of us. Alan gave us subtle hints to steer us in the general direction, but mostly watched us excitedly following the thread of the mystery. The amount of work put into making this place feel authentic is incredible. I am SUPER PROUD to say that we solved it!!! To be fair, we technically went 42 seconds over the time, but we still felt like winners because of our teamwork. Alan talked to us briefly afterwards, and you could tell he is truly passionate about what he does. We hadn't even realized how hungry we had gotten because we were so immersed in the mystery. Overall we were probably there a total of 2 hours, including the introduction, the puzzle itself, the "debriefing" and the pictures at the end. Excellent experience, especially since this year marks the 100 year anniversary of the explosion. Go do this awesome escape room before time runs out!

Whether you're going on a date, or for a birthday party, the Putting Edge is always a lot of fun. It costs approximately $10 per player, and is fun for all ages. For the added glow in the dark affect, it's a good idea to wear white items, or, if you forget, you can often purchase glow bracelets and other accessories inside. I even had a great birthday party here once so I have fond memories. The facilities have been not only maintained but improved since then. Beyond being kept clean, it looks like they've updated a lot of features such as the flooring. They also use bright primary colours along the walls and pillars of the lanes. It's done in a way that serious bowlers (a club to which I'll never be invited to join) won't be distracted but it makes for a nice visual plateau (Yeah - I used 'visual plateau' when describing a bowling alley, deal with it.). The staff were quite friendly and easy to chat with. They seemed happy, which is pretty important for staff to be friendly, I find. The actual bowling? Well, let's say I'm glad that we all agreed not to be competitive at the beginning. The focus was on having fun. Which, considering I never broke 80, was just fine by me! And it was fun! I hadn't bowled in years but I didn't care; the company was good and the atmosphere was light. The free Yelp swag didn't hurt either. I eagerly await the next CMYE!
