There are occasions which I crave Crab Cakes. Of course, I'm usually not in a restaurant that serves (good) crab cakes when said cravings hit. In those times, I've hit up Capt'n Chucky's for a few which are super easy to cook at home. They have a few different options when it comes to filling and spicy level. I think I like the ones with the old bay incorporated the best. Prices are in line with the portion and quality. Besides filling my random cravings, we also get a handful of crab cakes for dinner parties or game nights. For those nights, we usually split them in half and serve as a tasty appetizer. I'll round out by saying I believe they do have more than just crab cakes. Things like lobster rolls and such. I will happily update this review once I give those items a try. We have been going to the Blue Bell Captain Chuckies for years. My wife has Celiac disease and their gluten free crab cakes are exceptional. They made GF slider appetizers for us this year for a Christmas Party and they were a huge hit. Our guests also rave about their steamed shrimp which are giant, fresh, and tasty. We have a different Captain Chuckies closer to us but the service and quality at Blue Bell are better. read more

Let me start by saying I've never been to the brick & mortar location but I have had the pleasure of enjoying Captain Chucky's when the food truck travelled to our office! I ordered the Lobster Roll so succulent and chock full of large pieces of high quality Lobster. Very delicious. The coleslaw though on the side I didn't care for. 5 Stars for excellent quality Lobster, and very kind and friendly service! The kind service is something we aren't used to at our lousy now defunct on site deli. I saw other food being served too, like the crab cakes and their crab fries which were heaping with crabby goodness! Good Luck to Captain Chucky's just keep doing what you're doing. I've been buying from the Yardley location for over a year. Everything has been good except this last time. The Maryland crab soup had broccoli and cauliflower in it. Yuck! That does not belong in Maryland crab soup. There was very little crab meat and not seasoned as much as it should be. That was okay because I buy Old Bay by the pound so I could season it to my liking. Mixed vegetables go in Maryland crab soup but that doesn't inclue broccoli or cauliflower. Oh wow I love the Maryland crab soup here! And the lump crab cakes WITHOUT any breading. It's literally just deliciously seasoned crab meat. Shame on me for not stopping by earlier, especially since I am literally down the street. Anyhow, I digress (yes yes it is a true talent but...). The soup was hearty, full of crab meat, and very flavorful. I also tasted the New England Clam Chowder, which was decent, but not as great as Durgin Park's up in Haymarket; it was creamy but a tad bland and did not have any potatoes, which kinda made me sad since I love potatoes in my chowder. Plenty of clam meat though! Anyhow, crab cakes (be sure to get the premium because all other options have a filling or breading!) are delicious and very nicely priced at $5.25. Soup was $5.75 for a pint. I will definitely be back but this is a fantastic option for Lenten Fridays. read more

Awesome, awesome, awesome...wait... did I say this place was awesome? LOL. This review is for the Colmar location. Fantastic! Best seafood from a store we've ever purchased. The stuffed shrimp were absolutely incredible, so yummy. I only had two and that was plenty. Their lobster bisque is very good and the crab cakes are incredible. This was our first time going here and I will def. be back. The gentleman at counter was extremely friendly and welcoming. I wish we found this place sooner!! It's kind of hidden away - it's right next door to the new Red Cedar Inn, so make a left at the light before you see the restaurant across from the U-haul. We almost missed it! read more

An authentic seafood market in Blue Bell? Yup, Capt'n Chucky's Crab Cake will satisfy seafood lovers. I'm really happy I found Capt'n Chucky's Crab Cake. It's hard enough to find an authentic crab cake in a restaurant, let alone at a small strip mall nowhere near the ocean. The good Capt'n has a lot of different seafood options, including the hard-to-get Lobster mac & cheese, but their wheelhouse is crab cakes and, to continue the baseball metaphor, they knock it out of the ballpark. I like the non-breaded variety, but the breaded ones were just as tasty with that rich crabby flavor that doesn't overpower. I'll be back to Capt'n Chucky's in the near future. It's a nice post work surprise for the girlfriend and the prices are very reasonable. Definitely a must-visit. read more

Best crab cakes ever, Smith Island has no fillers and tastes so good you really don't need any sauce on them at all

Stopped by on a Tuesday night for a special birthday dinner for my husband. Everything was delicious and fresh! I was having trouble deciding, but the owner was happy to let me try the shrimp salad, which he says is a popular one. It was good, but I chose the lobster mac and cheese instead. It did not disappoint! We tried both the Maryland-style/Signature crab cake and the Rock Hall crab cake. We liked the signature better, but both had giant lumps of crab and not a ton of filler. The owner just bought the restaurant about a month ago, he said--he was quite friendly and the restaurant was very clean. I hope he does well--we will be back when the craving hits! read more

I passed by this place on my lunch break and knew I had to come back. I am a HUGE fan of crab cakes (I usually make my own). They offer take out 'heat and eat" with a variety of options... 6 different crab cakes, shrimp, shrimp cakes, sides: lobster mac n cheese, etc... I went with 2 different crab cakes, one breaded and one lump. Both were DELICIOUS!!! I grabbed a few shrimp, a shrimp cake and the garlic mashed potatoes. Everything was great! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable of their products. While I was waiting they let me try one of their horseradish sauces on a giant shrimp. Delish!!! I really wanted to like this place since I pass it all the time and it could have been very convenient but unfortunately this is not the case. I came here with my husband for the first time and purchased different crab cakes and the lobster bisque the same day after we ate some of the food my husband had a very bad food poisoning which he is still recovering from... Captain Chucky's is doing everything right. The owners are friendly and welcoming and the products are fantastic. They sell very nice quality cocktail shrimp at a fair price. Also the soups are delicious. The crab cakes are very good and the quality is outstanding but they are a bit bland for my taste. Take note of the specials; their grab and go meals are tasty, reasonable and convenient. During the summer don't miss out on the shrimp Caesar salad! Also Captain Chucky's brings in special seafood products that are very hard to find elsewhere. Right now they have a shipment of fresh (never frozen) king crab coming in on 10/31. You have to order ahead and it may be too late for this one but if you get on their email list you'll hear about the next offer. They usually bring in fresh salmon and other treats throughout the year. read more

Wow! A new owner with some serious restaurant chops. The great take-out weekly dinners are back. The average price is $8 - can't beat it. Jeeze - I just paid 10 bucks for a Burger King meal with a soda! This week it's Shrimp with Sweet Red Curry Thai Pasta & Veggies. And it's not a skimpy serving. If you added a salad, or bought a few extra shrimp (they're big and delish) you could stretch it for two. This is freshly prepared, CREATIVE cooking. Pair it with a little vino and we're all happy campers. Go for it! And as an aside, I had a Dining Emergency (a funeral dinner to put together) - and the owner was a huge help to me. We have family that live in the area of Blue Bell. While visiting we were treated to Crab cakes and Bisque and Stuffed Mushrooms. Everything was awesome. Had to stop in and pick up some treats from Capt'n Chucky's Crab Cake Co. to take back to Long Island. Again everything was delicious. We just celebrated an anniversary and family came to visit and gifted us with Crab Cakes and Bisque and Chowder. All still frozen when we opened. Even being frozen, there was no loss of flavor. Scrumptious! Only regret is that we can't order online and have products shipped. Fingers crossed that will eventually happen. In the meantime, we will stop in on our visits and stock up. read more

I purchased a dozen Maryland crabs from this establishment, and to my surprise they were not cooked there. These crabs are purchased from some other source already cooked and seasoned(OVER SEASONED), my problem was that an item like this needs to be very fresh, and the customer is not made aware that they may have been cooked days prior to purchase, my crabs were not fresh at all, I called/visited the store personally with my complaint, and was never given a call back, not to mention a refund. My advice for crab lovers is to not buy your crabs from this establishment. read more

Searching for a crab cake away from the shore? Your search is over. We got a small container of New England clam chowder and it was delicious. We should have gotten the bigger one. It was pure cream with chunks of clams and no potatoes. We got one of each crab cake and they were all tasty. The Smith island cake they say is their best. It doesn't have any breading on the outside. We preferred the imperial and signature cakes. My husband also got a shrimp cake and that was good too.
