Very happy to have had a cut by Zoie a couple weeks ago followed up by balayage today! She followed my wishes exactly! I stumbled on the salon as a walk-in a few weeks ago when I was rather desperate for a haircut. Very pleased I did and I will be back! Thank you Zoie! read more

They have a clean and bright interior. They serve tea while you wait and they have a very organized store . The prices are pretty steep so be aware of that. Coloring is their specialty and I didn't have a good experience with it ,but that is something I had to handle with management. You must ask how many bottles ahead of time you need for color if you have paid for a Groupon and it changes the entire price They have a nice serenity was bar there with a running water wall that's amazing that gave them a extra star. read more

I've coming here for a little less than a year. I first came here with a groupon. Taylor always does my hair. I'm always happy when I leave and it's a very relaxing appointment. There is water, coffee, wine, beer, or tea. There's always cookies. The scalp massages are the best. Taylor always listens to what I'm thinking I want to do to my hair and always has great input. If you're getting color they go over the pricing before hand. No receipt shock here. You know ahead of time. Plus. And this is big for me. I know that the stylists aren't going around a revolving door. I know I'll get to see the same person when I come for my appointment. That's super important to me. read more

Recently got my haircut at Captiva and had a great experience. The serenity wash station was a nice touch, very relaxing. The salon is abiding by all Covid precautions and it is very clean inside. Highly recommend asking for stylist Kate F. She will give you a great cut and dry read more

I had a really nice experience at this salon. I was given a Groupon for my birthday for a haircut and highlight. I saw Kerri at the Wallingford location. She was so kind and attentive. When I first arrived, I was greeted promptly and kindly by the receptionist and was given a beverage and offered a cookie. Kerri came to get me shortly thereafter and gave me a tour of the salon. We spoke about what I wanted done with my hair, and she was very knowledgeable and thorough. My hair was very long and thick, and I cut off about 13 inches. I got blonde highlights and a bob haircut. I can imagine it was a challenge with the thickness of my hair, but it came out really nicely. My favorite part of the experience there was the room where your hair was washed. It was dimly lit with soft music, and each client was given a scalp massage. It was very relaxing. My stylist spent a long time working on my super thick hair, and I was really grateful for her not making me feel rushed. After my hair was styled, the receptionists and other stylists gave me nice and sincere compliments and made me feel really beautiful with my drastic change. Overall I can't say enough positive things about this salon and my stylist. read more

I'm kind of on the fence about Captiva Salon. On one hand, I have been pretty happy with my haircuts. My hair stylist is Aref and in general, he's done a really terrific job making me look much better than I have any business looking. He really takes a lot of time and gets my hair looking right. I especially enjoy his attention to detail with my well-coifed sideburns. I'm only partially making that up. The lather lounge is also pretty... interesting. I do thoroughly enjoy getting my hair washed here, though I admit I find it a tad odd to get a scalp massage while I'm sitting next to someone else in silence and listening to the waterfall wall thingy. However, they did recently increase the prices and I gotta say, it's a little on the pricey side. I only get a haircut, and even that cost upwards of 35 or 40 dollars, which, once you start including tip, adds up fast. Nonetheless, I like Aref, the people at the main desk was welcoming and friendly, and the haircuts themselves are very good. I haven't gotten my hair colored or any of that other fancy stuff, so I can't speak to that. But when I get my hair did, I get my hair did here, and I am rarely disappointed. read more

I've always been borderline phobic of getting my hair done due to many bad experiences--this time could not have been more different! It was my first time at this salon, and I can't recommend it enough. Laura toned down my hideously blonde and grown out highlights and brought my hair back to a dark brunette. She also did a great cut and took her time styling my hair after. Everyone was friendly and welcoming and put my hair salon phobia to rest! The place was very clean, all the staff and customers were wearing masks, and everyone was social distancing. I will definitely be coming back! read more

If I could but a zero I would!! They burned off my hair that I've been growing for 5 years now and never even apologized!!! I literally have half the hair I used to and what is left is FRIED!! I went in with my sister for a sister hair day. I went in with hair that was beautiful and healthy. We were not told this was a secondary school and believed it to be an actual salon. It was already blond but the outer area got a little dark over the winter so I wanted a few hand painted highlights over the outer layer. I expressed this numerous times and Sarah seemed to understand. We also agreed they would start about 6 inches away from the scalp. And again on the top layer nothing at all underneath!! Sarah also stated she was using an additive that prevented breakage which I had never had a problem with. I was held in an area without mirrors so I could not see what was being done. When I was done I was shocked to find my hair FRIED AND BRIGHT ORANGE YELLOW. I went back the next day to give them a chance to help mend it and adjust the atrocious color. Within 2 weeks that color washed out and my hair continued to get worse and worse. My hair is completely burned off!! My scalp is still having a reaction to whatever they used, new hair will not grow and every day more and more breaks and falls out!! I ask repeatedly for them to tell me what this girl did and used. Why if she used bleached why is it not lighter but actually darker? And why it's all burned out?? My friend, a licensed stylist, stated it was bleach and she left it on too long and that is a school and an awful place. Again, not once were we told they were in training. We are confused; however, as to why my hair isn't platinum blond if she did use bleach since I was a blond to begin with?? The entire thing makes no sense. It is believed a wrong chemical was added that burned my scalp and damaged the follicles preventing my hair from growing back. It was been 6 weeks and it will not grow! My hair will not grow back from whatever these people put on my scalp when nothing was supposed to even touch my scalp!!!!! I am 36 and have had highlights since I was a teenager twice a year. However last year I did not get any as the sun was sufficient to add highlights. For an entire year not on color or chemical was put in my hair! I took great pride in having healthy natural blond hair and love it more than anyone could imagine! I have been growing it for 5 years and still needed another 2 to reach the length I desired. Thanks to Sarah I'll be lucky if I'm left with boy short hair!!! I am beyond mortified. I cry everyday and have since gone into a massive depression. After leaving there May5th I was in a car accident that was caused in part by me being so incredibly upset. Friends and family are shocked!! Everyone has known me for gorgeous long blond hair, HEALTHY hair! My entire identity is destroyed. I have been so sick and distraught I haven't even gone into a salon for it to be chopped off yet, what's left anyways. I will be going this week. Like I stated, it is not disclosed on Groupon or when we went that this is a sort of college for students hair stylist! And if it is why wasn't she supervised? I am hiring a personal injury attorney. I need to know what was put in my hair and what she did so wrong. Perhaps she put something in she wasn't supposed to instead of that additive for breakage. Maybe she put hair remover in! I really need to know what she did and they won't answer or even apologize. This should never have happened to anyone and people need to know what is going on at this place. Do not take a chance with your hair at this place if you love yourself and your hair!! read more

Me and my wife were profiled at this salon because of how we were dressed. My wife had her hair done at Captiva one time before in the past and was really impressed with everything from the service, to the cut, to the price. She raved about this place and told everyone that she knew about Captiva. She didnt have a bad thing to say about this place UNTIL now. My wife just had surgery done a week ago. She has been feeling pretty down and not in the best of spirits so she asked if I could take her to Captiva to get her hair done. I agreed and we went on Saturday morning. Again, my wife just had surgery and because of that she cant wear any real pants or blouses. She was wearing a sweat suit when we went. I was wearing a pair of jeans and a Slayer tee shirt with a ball cap. When we walked in, the place was full of very well dressed people and there was a woman there setting up a jewelry display at the front of the salon. We approached the counter and spoke to the woman and my wife told her that she would like to get her hair done. The woman asked if she had an appointment and my wife replied, no, Im a walk in. The woman at the counter said that was fine and took my wife's name. She said that she would get her seen in about 5 or 10 minutes. My wife said..Perfect! At that time I asked the woman at the counter about getting a mens haircut and beard trim and she told me that I would have to talk to the other woman on the barber side. I asked the girl at the counter on the barber side if I could be seen and she asked if I had an appointment and I told her that I did not. She then looked at her computer and told me that she did not have anything open at all for that day. I found it strange because there were 3 barbers there but only 1 was working on a customer, the other 2 were just hanging around and talking. I then asked her if she had anything open for NEXT weekend and she looked at me and told me that they were also booked up completely. At that point I asked her "what time are you open until during the week"? She told me that they were opened until 8pm. I asked her if there was anything during the week after 4 that I could book and she once again told me...:Sorry, we dont have anything". She then offered to take my number and "call me" in a a couple of weeks if anything opened up. I knew right then and there what was going on. For the record, I called Captiva later that day to schedule a mens haircut and beard trim and was given an appointment, thats another reason I know that we were profiled. Nothing available for 2 solid weeks but I can call 3 hours later and get an appointment? Yeah...right. At that point I went and sat with my wife who had already been waiting for 5 minutes or so. Remember, she was told that she would be seen in 5 or 10 minutes. While we were sitting there talking and waiting for her name to be called we watched 3 other women walk in, AFTER my wife, to get their hair done. ONE of them had an appointment and 2 of them were walk-ins. When those 3 other women walked in they all booked their appointments and then were greeted by another person who took their coats and bags for them and gave them a small cup of champagne while they waited for their names to be called. My wife or I were not greeted by anyone, offered to have our coats hung or offered a glass of champagne. Please note that the other 3 woman that walked in were NOT wearing jeans or sweatpants. After 30 minutes of waiting, we saw the other 3 woman that came in after my wife get called to the back and have their their haircuts started. Her 5-10 minute wait had turned into 30 minutes and we watched 3 people who arrived AFTER us get called to the back. At that point my wife had enough of feeling like shit and disrespected and we walked out of the salon. The moral of this story is that Captiva seems to only want to cater to people who look like they fit their demographic of clientele and stylists. If you are wearing sweats or a Slayer concert T shirt they seem to not want to bother with you. I dont know if its that they think that you cant afford their services or wont give a decent tip but they made a huge mistake. My wife had several friends and family who became clients of Captiva because of her first experience with them, Im sure that they wont be going there anymore. The saddest part is that women like to get their hair and nails and other things done when they are feeling down, they want to be pretty and feel better about themselves...Thats what my wife was looking to do after her major surgery....feel pretty again.....Captiva stole that from her and didn't help her feel any better. They should be ashamed of themselves for treating ANYONE like they did because of the way they are dressed. You're in the business of making people feel pretty.....Well, you did a horrible job with that. Your customer service skills suck. read more

The stylists are friendly and the atmosphere is nice. However, in my opinion is a bit overpriced. The services are the same as other salons in town and the surrounding area but are much pricier. The Lather Lounge and Color Bar do not warrant this pricing difference. My hair looked the same as other times I had gotten it done at other salons (cut and highlight). I was also continuously told about Paul Mitchell products and how I should buy them despite telling the stylist I was happy with my products at home. This made the experience somewhat unenjoyable due to the pressure to buy something. After 3 services, I have switched to another salon but still constantly get emails despite trying to unsubscribe. read more

I went to Captiva today for the first time and will definitely be going back. I went to have my hair cut to donate it; about 12 inches were taken off for the donation. I left with such a cute fun short haircut. The stylist was very friendly and did a wonderful job. I also had my eyebrows waxed by the same stylist and they're perfect. I highly recommend the salon and Victoria, the stylist. read more

I've been going to Captiva Salon for a few years now. I've had two great stylists (Casey and Colleen) and both do wonderful jobs. From my experience they'll really take the time to discuss what you want to do and help you pick out the perfect color. If you're ever going to get your eyebrows waxed, try and make your appointment with Aref - I've never had a better eyebrow wax. The only downside would be the front desk management and how busy the salon is. If you ever need to reschedule your appointment, it's almost impossible to do so. I've been pushed back almost four weeks for a simple color. Try and keep your appointments if at all possible! read more

I had bought a groupon but could never get an appointment here. I was frustrated and disappointed, but they fixed the situation. They worked with me to find a good time for my appointment and honored my groupon even when it was expired. My experience was great. My hairdresser was professional and knowledgeable. She cut and highlighted my hair. The end result was great and she really took time to make it look great and style it fantastic afterwards. They took a bad experience and turned it around. Seems to be on par for prices for a woman's cut and highlight. Downside, no tipping with a credit card. I never carry cash and every salon I've been to has a tipping line. Luckily, I had a small amount of cash, but didn't get to tip as much as I'd like because of this. Overall good experience. read more

My first visit was a complete flop (the cut & color was nothing like the pictures provided and virgin hair ruined) but I made it a point to email them back with details and pictures and they called back right away to correct the color at least ! I would just recommend asking about how experienced the individual doing your hair is because that is honestly what the issue came down to. Worth the drive if you get the right person if you aren't local like me . read more

I have been looking for a new salon, and this isn't going to be the one. I came in for a haircut/style. I came in on time, checked in with the friendly receptionist and waited. After 15 minutes of waiting, the receptionist came over and and said that my stylist wouldn't be ready for another 15 minutes. I was not happy about this but I decided to stay because I had rearranged by Saturday in order to get my haircut in and didn't want to book again. After waiting for a half an hour, I didn't hear anything. I walked back up to the reception desk and asked her if anyone else could get me started.I had noticed other stylists were not working on anyone and I didn't think it was fair I had to wait because the salon management did a poor job of scheduling. The receptionist said she would check to see what she could do. After maybe another 7 minutes, I was handed off to another stylist who was going to get me started in the Lather Lounge. All it was is a dim area with a waterfall window where they shampoo/condition your hair. When I was put under the dryer, the stylist who was supposed to work on me came over, apologized, and took over my appointment. I will say, this stylist was extremely nice and did an excellent job on my hair. It is not her fault that appointments were not booked correctly for her. I was happy with my cut and the service by my stylist. She is super talented and has a bright future. The part that ruined my experience was the management. They did not come out to apologize or offer any kind of retribution. Also, when it came time to pay (actually process my Groupon), there were two people at the counter that seemed like they were management. I walked up and they ignored me because they were busy doing something with the computers...they could have looked up and said " I will be with you in a moment." So I waited at the counter for what seemed like 3 or 4 minutes. They processed my Groupon, I left a tip for the stylist, and left. I should have said something about their service, but I really just wanted to get out of there, they held me up long enough. I won't be going there again, I expect a salon service to be friendly and accommodating. I understand a 5 minute delay, but a half hour and then for me to suggest someone else start me is ridiculous. Although I had a great stylist work on me, I was so turned off by the management that I will not be coming back again. The funny thing is, the place wasn't even that busy for a Saturday. read more

Well. I did go back here once. It is posh and nice and relaxing. But, I told the gal working on my hair about my situation in life ( I was broke) and I was there for a hair cut. She proceded to get down on my sad looking hair color. Its $100.+ for your first haircolor service. I left feeling less than happy. I have yet to be back. I dont know how I really feel about this place. Its nice if you have money for the services they offer and they do a nice job. But.. eh. I wish the girl would have been a bit more sensitive with her comments. I knew my color was crap. I didnt need it pointed out when there was nothing I could afford to do about it. read more

At Captiva, you end up paying for all the enhancements to your salon experience, but sometimes, you need to treat yourself. As soon as I walked in, I knew this salon was different from the places I am used to frequenting. Everyone goes out of their way to make you feel welcome, and the extra frills make you feel extra special. I was immediately asked if I wanted a glass of wine, or coffee, or tea, and I sat in a comfy seat in the front area - wine in hand - while I waited for my appointment. I didn't have to wait very long, but if I wanted, I could grab a cookie or make myself a cup of coffee, and I loved having these options. I stopped in because I had a Groupon (which is only available to first-time customers), and because it was my first time here, I got a grand tour of the place. The salon is on one side, the barber shop (complete with a beer keg) is on the other side, and the lather lounge is in the back along with the color bar. The lather lounge is truly luxurious with a waterfall wall, relaxing music, and sinks that are actually comfortable to lean back into. My hairdresser did a great job from start to finish. My Groupon came with a "wellness ritual," and I had my choice from a number of treatments. I decided on a paraffin hand treatment, and my hairdresser took care of my wellness ritual as well as my lather lounge experience, and my haircut. While I didn't get the best haircut I've ever had (it's hard to find someone who really knows how to cut Asian hair), my hair was cut with care, and I got what I asked for. I don't know if I'll be back any time soon because I'm still on the search for a new steady hairdresser after my last one found a new job, but I will keep Captiva on my list of places to go for a haircut. It's a little on the pricier side, but I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good salon. read more

I recently began going to Captiva, and have become a really big fan. After a recommendation from a friend who goes to their Milford salon, I thought I'd give it a try. After recently getting married, I decided to go for a change and chop 8 inches off. To start, upon entering the salon, they had a very cute sign on the front desk, welcoming me by name as a new customer. They took my coat, and offered me coffee, tea, or water and cookies while I waited. I was taken right around my appointment and brought to the chair. Rosie, my stylist, was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and talented. She asked great questions, asking how I style my hair and what profession I work in to make decisions about my cut. She then took me to the lather lounge, which is personally my favorite part. They have a quiet room with a waterfall on the front wall. I really enjoy the silence and the scalp massage. I am always so relaxed that I fight off the urge to fall asleep. Rosie is always very patient as my hair takes forever to blow dry. I will say I've gotten so many compliments from my cut since. The prices are fair, especially given the level of service. Be sure to bring cash for the tip, they don't allow you to add it to your card. Definitely go check it out. read more

I really like the layout of this salon- the wine and beer option is really neat and I look forward to it when I'm coming in after work to have my hair colored. The lather area is really relaxing and comfortable, and the sink doesn't bother my neck when I lean back into it. The stylists are all very nice, I've seen a few, and all are talented (Taylor and Hope are awesome). I had my hair done for a wedding here (I was a bridesmaid), and when I called about a price, I was floored. I was quoted $85 for a blowout. My hair barely comes past my ears, and I pay $35 for a cut. I told the receptionist this, and she recommended I come in for a consultation. I did this, and was quoted a lower price, $45. I'm really glad I was given this option, even though I still thought the price was still steep and the final result was just ok. My biggest gripe with this salon is the wait time. I have to wait anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes before every appointment, and I always schedule in advance. Lately, I've been unable to schedule an appointment with my preferred stylist, because she's always booked up. I've decided to look elsewhere as a result. read more

I went for a bridal trial. when I made the appointment I was told that the cost was $80 and up depending on the complexity of the style I wanted. While the hairdresser was doing my hair, she told me that its a very simple style, and should be pretty easy to do. I didn't love the end result, but I thought it might grow on me. When I went to pay, the cashier informed me that the cost was $120. I asked why. Her response was that it was a more complex style, and that is why it was FOURTY dollars more. A complete contradiction of what the stylist told me. I felt like I was overcharged. What made it even worse was that not even 3 hours later, my hairstyle was already falling apart. The curls were coming out and I was told that it looked like I just woke up and my hair was a mess. I am very disappointed with Paul Mitchell Captiva. I DO NOT trust them to do my hair for my wedding. I will not be going there again. I will advise my friends not to go their either. read more

I have enjoyed going to Captiva Salon for the last four years. A young very intelligent man named Aref is both my wife and I stylist, who is a expert at his profession. I'm very impressed by the professionalism of the staff who seem genuinely glad to see you. They rush to take your coat and are quick to offer wine, ice tea, hot tea or coffee to make your brief wait most enjoyable. Two years ago they made 1/2 the salon into a "Old Time Barber Shop" and placed it in Aref's capable hands. There you can get a great haircut an expert shave and even a draft beer!! You will also be whisked away into the "Lather Lounge" where you can enjoy the "waterfall" while having your hair shampooed and your scalp being expertly massaged! WHAT A PLACE!! I love it there, and so won't you. Oh, and prices are very reasonable! read more

I went there because I was going from brunette to blonde for the first time. I didnt want a cheapy place to handle my hairs! My colorist was nice enough. It's really weird that when it's your first time they take you on a "tour" of the place that is rehearsed line to line. My color came out decent, not as blonde as I wanted. This place is GROSSLY OVERPRICED. I've learned this since moving to Chicago and getting my hair done here. When my hair was done the colorist took me to their store section and filled up a basket with products she thought ( or was told to sell) in a basket that would be beneficial to my hair. She then placed the basket at the front counter and told me I could purchase it if I wanted. I could have done without this step. I just almost spent 400 dollars on my hair and youre still pushing me to spend more money. Ugh. Desperate as a used car salesman. In sure you could go to a school and get your haircut or color for about 1/3638283728 of the price. read more

I give Captiva a 2. I've taken my time to think about writing this review. This visit will be my last. The prices here are absolutely ridiculous. I don't mind spending my hard-earned $ on my hair, but it had better be worth it. This place is NOT worth it. First off, I don't need my hairdresser carrying my pocketbook for me to/from the door, the chair, etc.. The Color Bar and Lather Lounge are a gimmick that I don't care for. They want to make you feel as if you've gotten your money's worth by doing these little extras. If I want the spa experience, I will go to a spa. I am ashamed to say I was suckered into adding color in addition to the highlights I went for, and ended up paying $80 over - totaling out to $215. I was suckered and fell for it because my hair looked like crap when I went it. The end result, instead of toning down the blonde highlight that I previously had, I came out with a head of red hair. Mind you, I did not ask for red, but somehow that's what it became. I did not realize the full extent of the color til a couple of days later. To top it all off, there is no contrast between the highlights and color painted on so that it looks as if a bottle of one dimension of color was dumped on my head. The haircut was fine, but it was nothing more than a trim. And if you do go here, do NOT give them your email, cell, etc. They will continually bombard you with texts and emails. read more

Lots of services, super friendly staff. Go see Kim -- she's the only person in Connecticut I've let near my hair since moving here 2 years ago (I've been driving back to Boston every two months). I love Captiva Salon. Before Captiva, I was going to a small salon in Wallingford where the hairdressers did not get any training once they were hired. Captiva educates all of their staff all the time! They are up to date on all the latest trends. They are also great if you are looking for hair extensions. Their prices are not that bad. If you are comparing them to Cost Cutters, then yes, its probably a shock. You get what you pay for. Its a friendly atmosphere and they use top of the line products. Kristina has been doing my hair for over 3 years now and she does an amazing job. She is so smart and has a great sense of fashion so if you are unsure what you want done, she can help you decide. They also serve wine at night ;) I look forward to my appts. Its a nice night of pampering and I come out feeling great. I highly recommend. read more

Not Happy.....when I got to the Check-Out I found out that my Bill was larger than I expected or what I had talked about to Kristina

I had been a loyal PM client for 5 or so yrs. I started off at the Milford one. I loved my color & cut, the one con was I felt like I was always getting hit up on up-sells & extra services I literally didn't need. Eventually I wanted Ombré & he didn't know how to do it so I called Wallingford & they recommended a brilliant stylist who gave me the most beautiful Ombré ever. He was always straight up w/me about what I DID need & never tried to sell me what I didn't. He made my experience the best. After he left, prices went up & then I had an experience that made me question everything about PM. After all the time & money I spent, clients I referred & the fact I never had contacted management over all these years... I thought I had built up a good client standing w/PM. I trusted staying & saw a recommended stylist even after mine left. The experience: I come in to see her, first time she is doing my hair. I was happy w/ the color & she is nice but the price I was told at the color bar was different then the price I was told at check out. On top of that they wanted to close, so I was told as my hair is getting cut that I wouldn't be getting a blowdry after my haircut, (which is included w/haircut). I was speechless & too shy to tell her I was very unhappy about this because I just told her I loved the color. I decided I would tell the front desk in hopes they will rectify the situation & tell her I just paid so while they close out she can finish. Then they tell me the price. Now I'm upset & confused. My bill JUST for 1 COLOR,(no highlights, ombré or fancy stuff) came to $160!!! I was floored & I expressed I was unhappy overall & now I just spent all this $ and I'm standing here w/wet hair! They respond,"Do you want to come back tomorrow?" I was shocked and said I didn't have the time. She says "Well it's not like u had to pay for it". That was beyond rude. I just paid a lot of $ in general & the only reason I had a complimentary haircut was because I referred a client to them which is $ in their pocket. So it wasn't "free", I sent them business. This also doesn't mean they were justified to half-ass it and send me home w/soaking wet hair. After anyone drops almost $200 after tip for hair services should NEVER be sent home w/wet hair to go home to spend more time drying their own hair!!! I have worked at the front desk in a couple salons in the past & we were always told to wait 'til the last client was finished. Obviously these girls only priority was to get out of there. I called management the next day & she made me feel like I was in the wrong & then asked me "well what would make u happy?" I was in shock at how I was being treated like I didn't matter. There was no apology or look into why it was that much, it was more like a "sorry u feel that way" BS. Did she bother to see my client history? I never complained before so obviously something was wrong. She put a comp'd blow out on my acct w/a 30 day expiration date!!! Really an expiration date!? Obviously they don't care about long term loyal clients, they care about the $$$. Needless to say I'm looking for a new salon. read more
