Excellent food and service! The waitress was very kind and the owner and Cook came out to greet me. I had scrambled eggs with biscuits and gravy. I was going to eat some gumbo as soup of the day, but I was full.. the owner sent me home with a complementary cup of seafood gumbo sample. I will definitely be back and I highly recommend this place. PS. Wednesdays have three dollar Wells. read more

If we lived here we'd be regulars! Everything was SO GOOD! I had the Mahi Mahi with Broccoli and salad as my sides; it was perfectly cooked, and perfectly seasoned, as was the broccoli. So fresh. My husband had the Philly cheesesteak, with fries. Both were perfectly prepared. This place is a gem! There are pictures all around that show a lot of of history of the area, and also it seemed like family history of the owner. Great vibe, great prices, excellent quality! read more

The food was great here! Fried fish and baked flounder with creamy shrimp sauce. Has a clean, family friendly, local kind of vibe. Prices were reasonable and great service. read more

Most visit! Clean inside, generous portions, well priced. Where can you get an omelette with a huge serving of hash browns and toast for under $10 ? I heard their biscuits and gravy was very good. Bacon came with 5 strips. Excellent service too! Would come back again. read more

Crazy good food, crazy nice staff, big open dining area with a nice looking bar area. It has both tables and booths. My wife and I had dinner here and really enjoyed our meals. The menu has a lot of variety and choices including fresh fish and steaks. They have a nice selection of drinks and beers. We both had a Perfect Marg no salt on the rocks. They both came with two limes. They were very tasty and resonably priced. My wife had the Nueces Bay which is flounder, shrimp, crab with a wine butter sauce. She got the vegi's of the day and rice as her side. She loved it, everything was very good. I had the Stuffed Flounder with rice and fried okra. The stuffed flounder was grilled with the seafood stuffing. I really enjoyed this also. Our wait person was friendly, helpful with our questions and checked on us the appropriate number of times to make sure everything was great. read more

Was on the island for a doctor's appointment and decided to try this place for lunch and so glad we did. We had Melody as a server and service was exceptional. Hubs tried the Greek burger and I ordered the ANC chicken sandwich. He had sweet potato fries and I had the onion strings. Let me say my sandwich was great. Huge portion of chicken, avocados and bacon. Could only eat half. Hubs said the Greek burger was amazing and that the ground beef was super juicy and tasty. The portions on the onion strings and fries were HUGE, way too big like enough for a team. lol. But everything was really good. Will definitely be back when we are in the area, 9 out of 10 for everything. And prices were good too. read more

Delicious food! This is one of our favorite spots on the island. The food is always fresh and so good!

Best place I found peel and eat shrimp. Large portion and very affordable. Their food is very well made and the place has a family friendly beach town feel. Great prices and great food at the very best price points. read more

They seated two tables ahead of us because the hostess knew them, and she became upset when we raised concerns. Unfortunately, we were placed next to a table that was loudly using profanity, despite the fact that we had four children with us. Our salads were served, but it took about 15 minutes to receive silverware. When we asked for forks, the response was an incredulous, "Yeah, we're working on it." read more

We were excited to find an excellent seafood restaurant right on the island. The calamari and stuffed mushrooms were excellent as were the seafood platters. The food was fresh, well prepared, and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was reminiscent of old time seafood restaurants with vintage beach, fishing photos on the walls. I was sad to not have time to try their gyro before we left. Our family looks forward to dining at the Captain's Diner on our next trip. read more

Sunday morning breakfast stop and wasn't that busy which was great. Got sat right away in a booth. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was tasty and only issue was the side of ham came out after the rest of the meal. Large portions for the two eggs and French toast. Eggs were scrambled well and loved the hash browns. Coffee was also quite delicious, should have asked for a to go cup! Decor was simple and clean, there was an odd open space due to the a/c dripping. Smart of them to not leave tables for guests to have an unpleasant experience. read more

Service was great. They bring out fresh rolls to the table after you order your drinks. The menu is very straightforward and has exactly what you want. My daughter and I got lunch while my hubby opted for breakfast since it was about 10:45 when got there. The shrimp poboy was really good...seasoned and lots of pickles, tomato and lettuce. I don't know if they make the hoagie inhouse or not but it was toasted and was sooo good. The tarter sauce comes on the side. I just Wish they put 2 more shrimp on the sandwich to fill it up all the way. My daughter loved the shrimp platter. The shrimp were seasoned well and fried golden. My hubby loved the pancakes and hashbrowns...the bacon was . I tried a piece or 2. Very good experience. Also...the bathroom was veeerryyy clean so I appreciated that. Check them out if you come to Corpus Christi. You won't be disappointed. read more

Where do I begin? Let's start with the price of their entrées. Everything here from steak to burgers and baskets is priced so affordable it would question me to think the quality would be less than. This isn't the case. Captains Diner is a true contender for restaurant experience of the year in my book. Everything and I do mean everything from the seafood platter to the steak and turf, which I ordered was amazing and the price is unbelievable. This place is an absolute gem. This is my new go to place why down on the coast read more

Great homemade food! All the seafood was fresh and the even everything was homemade! Croutons, ranch, corn nuggets! Tremendous amount of food for the dollar. The margaritas were overly sweet for me, but maybe that's your thing! read more

What a great surprise! We loved Captain's Diner. It was recommended to us by a friend who had recently discovered it. Every employee was super friendly and the food was spectacular. We started with wonderful drinks recommended by our waitress, then had calamari, crab cakes, onion rings, Greek Salmon, blackened salmon and a burger. The portions were big, the food was served hot and everything was flavored like it was homemade. Also our waitress, Gabby, could not have been more pleasant. It was clear she loved her job and took pride in working for the family owned business. We look forward to going back when visiting the Port A area again. read more

Okay...I'll say this to start...we sat outside because we had dogs with us, and our waitress ran her butt off making sure we were well taken of! Then he the food.... Acceptable? Nothing special? Sorry...for $30 for a plate and tea I didn't walk away thinking I'd had anything worth that amount. Nothing was bad...not at all...but nothing was special. Shrimp and crab cakes over fried and super dark. Portion sizes were pretty good, though. Can't say I'd be back. read more

I had a good experience here because the waitress was friendly and the food was pretty good. I like that the food wasn't really salty though most of the dishes were a bit planned. They definitely could've used a bit more seasoning. But besides that I felt the food was quite fresh, and the pricing was reasonable. My favorite dish was the flounder and cream sauce. The flounder tasted fresh and the cream sauce was flavored really nicely and had some seafood in it. read more

My husband and I came by for dinner around 6 pm yesterday, and we seemed to have hit the perfect time. There was a brief wait, but shortly after we checked in, a lot of families were coming in to get on the wait list. There were several large groups, and the restaurant is quite the hole-in-the-wall place. The inside is quite vintage with an old-timey feel. We loved the old celebrity photos on the wall. I ordered the grilled shrimp with steamed broccoli (veggie of the day) and a baked potato. My husband had the grilled salmon with rice pilaf and broccoli. We also had Caesar salads, which tasted really good. Their prices are super reasonable, and you get A LOT of food. The service was also really good, and we barely had to ask for anything. Everything here was excellent! The food was delicious, the service was fantastic! I'm actually writing this review while I'm still sitting here. I'm rather picky and I couldn't be happier! Nice little diner type place. Good food. Nice people... service was great. Not the top of my list, but for the island, not too bad.

We were first time Customers and we were so glad that we found this local home style seafood restaurant with a good amount of space and tables with staff to serve them. The restaurant is also nicely decorated with historical photos of the island not over done with neon signage. The menu provide various selections and are well priced for the ample portions served. Our waitress by the name of Gabby was just fantastic always stoping to check on us and offering if we needed anything plus she was very knowledgeable of the food and the history of the restaurant. For starters we had the delicious crab cakes and I mean 5 of them not 2 or 3. We then had the Shrimp plater grilled and a Seafood salad both were delicious .. overall we're delighted and will certainly be stopping by again to try the other items on the menu when visiting our favorite White Cap Beach. read more

My husband and I ate at Captain's Diner a few days ago and the food was delicious. We had the You-Peel-Em shrimp. A half a pound was plenty for two people. We also had stuffed mushrooms that were huge and crispy and moist on the inside. A generous portion of fried shrimp included fries. All was very good. We took half home! Our server, Vicky, was super nice, attentive, and was very familiar with the menu. We will definitely return! read more

Previously gave this place a 5 star. But went in this visit. Told the waiter I was allergic to tomatoes. So he turned around and put tomatoes on my salad and then didn't even bother to tell me the vegetable of the day had tomatoes in it so I wasn't able to eat my vegetable and then when it came around time to the bill and charging they added three dollars between the bill and paying I will show pictures for an example. I thought this was my spot when I came to the island but not anymore. The food was mediocre this time also except for the shrimp. The shrimp was on point but the rest of it was not. read more

Just starting by saying the Greek burger was amazing. Only suggestion would be by adding lamb meat into the patty. Was defiantly a better burger than Ithe fancy similar burger in Vegas! Staff was great. Very accommodating. Restaurant looked like it went through some changes that have a Greek boating vibe - which matches the history of the location. read more

Breakfast was great! Only thing I would change is being as slow as it is at breakfast time (at least while we were there) bring my toast with the butter already on it and melted because by the time I put the butter on the toast it was cold and the butter didn't melt so I didn't eat it. Other than that, my breakfast was wonderful! read more

From start to finish...just amazing!! Salad dressing was homemade and so tasty! Ordered the coconut shrimp and it was the best I've ever had. The flavor was perfect and you could taste the coconut! Ordered a stuffed flounder special in what is supposed to be a sea food restaurant on North Padre Island. It took 40 minutes because the dish was a frozen dish prepared elsewhere. Flawless service by Shawna. Her positive attitude is infectious. Restaurant was clean. They served complimentary rolls at lunch. We used to love going to Captain Dinner whenever we come to visit Port A. Most restaurants in Port A decided to charge a "credit card fee/convenience fee" and since then, we decided to only find restaurants that doesn't nickel and dime their customers. We found Captain's Diner and have been going there since. Unfortunately, our most recent visit we were charged this very same fee WITHOUT warning.... They also upsell you with their sides and under-quoted you with the upsell fees. When the check arrived, there were multiple surprises. It is very sad that restaurant owner think they can pass on their fees to the customers, they do NOT wish to pay their wait staff a living wages and keep raising the "TIPS" rate, now they do not wish to pay the merchant bank and also pass that fees to their customers. There is definitely NOT "convenience" for customer to pay via credit card than cash.. as restaurant owner should have to count all the cash and make their cash deposit at the bank while the bank also charge fees for cash deposit. In regards to their food quality.. it is also taking a nose dive, their fried fish and very dry and feels like you are chewing on a cardboard. Will not be dining here again nor recommend this to our friends. read more

The venue and location are really cute, and the restaurant was very clean, especially the bathrooms. Unfortunately, VERY long wait time and inattentive server, the food was pretty underwhelming for the price. Most items were à la carte, with no real breakfast specials or complete breakfast plates, and there wasn't even a kids' breakfast menu. That made it feel especially expensive for a family breakfast. Overall, it's a nice-looking spot with a great atmosphere, but the food, value, and menu options were pretty mediocre. I'd probably try somewhere else next time. read more
