Captain Mauri's is a great little place for breakfast or lunch. They have many healthier options and a ton of vegetarian items, including many styles of veggie burgers (gotta try one next time...). I kept it simple and ordered the "avocado n' jack" sandwich -- avocado and jack cheese with sprouts, tomato, and lettuce on squaw bread. It was delicious, and I got to enjoy it while soaking up some rays on their front outdoor patio. The prices are truly a bargain -- $5-7 for a sandwich, salad, wrap, or veggie burger -- what a deal! They also have many kinds of smoothies and shakes if you're into that kind of thing. Additionally, the Capt. has a good offering of coffee and tea drinks. I give this place a four-star instead of a five only because the atmosphere is very basic. It is cute but it's your typical little diner. The Bali burger was phenomenal I substituted the bun for gluten-free bread which was absolutely excellent. We also had potato leek soup the flavor was fantastic I believe these things are homemade. I went there with my husband yesterday for lunch. The lady who took our order was the only person there. She kept apologizing for constantly looking at the menu because she did not know how to make the sandwiches. She microwaved the bacon that was going in my husband's sandwich. For a $14 sandwich, I expect more than microwaved bacon... After 20 minutes waiting (we were the only customers there, and had to wait 20 minutes for ONE sandwich) she handed to us the bag with our food. She proceeded to asks us what the price for the sandwich was because she did not remember. Then when my husband is trying to pay with his card, she says she can only take cash because no one taught her how to use the register. She couldn't tell us it was cash only before we even ordered and waited for 20 minutes???? Then she starts calling someone (who did not pick up) and we end up leaving with no sandwich, only wasted time. The whole experience was very unpleasant and unprofessional. Currently eating the Curry chicken sandwich and it is to die for! As a first time customers, they greeted us with a smile and gave us ample time to decide. Their smoothies are also delicious. The artwork is beautiful and the music is diverse. Worth giving a try! Things they could improve on: There were crumbs on my chair when I went to sit down. Not horrible on cleanliness, but not perfect. The smoothies come in plastic cups with lids and straws even when you're eating at the establishment. I think it could not only look more aesthetic but also be more environmentally friendly to have proper glasses or maybe even paper to go cups. Two out of three employees had their masks on incorrectly...noses exposed. I had to ask the woman preparing my smoothie to cover her nose. On the way out I saw a sign that read...and I'm paraphrasing....King Newsom is forcing us to wear masks even though we fought for the freedom to not wear masks in 1776, or some such hogwash. I can't respect or trust anyone or any business that has that attitude towards a deadly virus. It's that kind of attitude that exasperates and prolongs the pandemic. Before I moved to California, I imagined that all restaurants in the state would look like this. A place with a chill, beachy atmosphere, a name featuring the word "Captain," nice outdoor seating, a cornucopia of fresh smoothies and lots of sandwiches crowned with tender sprouts. I'm happy to have finally found this place that I've surprisingly seen only in daydreams. I ordered the Apple Chicken Salad sandwich and added avocado for a dollar more. The chicken salad featured big meaty lumps of chicken, which rocked. Too many times chicken salad is mashed up strings of meat and mayo, this wasn't that. The chucks of apple were a nice sweet touch to the mixture too. I think I would have liked a little more blast of flavor in the sandwich, but I think that could be easily solved by ordering the Curry Chicken Salad, which sounds awesome. I'll definitely be trying that next time around. I didn't get a drink, but the menu features a lot of them and they all sounded good. If you must, at least wait to eat here until after the pandemic ends. They are not following county or state guidelines. Please think before going here! I agree with everything said by the previous review. The workers were not wearing masks, gloves, and no signs about social distancing/wearing masks. Overall, the sandwiches were mediocre and similar to something you could just make at home. Will not be coming back for the food, but the tropical smoothie was good. Most importantly, they tried to overcharge us!!! For 4 people splitting smoothies/sandwiches our total came out to around $60, which seemed a little fishy. We asked for an itemized receipt, but they told us they could only tell us how much each item was. After adding everything up we realized it was $8 (basically an entire sandwich) over what it should of been and the lady tried to argue that they didn't charge us for some stuff after we just asked for prices of ever thing we ordered, clearly not making sense.
