Me, my wife and 3 teenage children went on the 7pm Night Bass/Blues fishing trip. We looked forward to this for a while, but we were disappointed! We came home with 0 fish. I called ahead to find out if the night or morning/day trip would make a difference. The woman I spoke with indicated that didn't really matter. Well... it did! Out of about 20 people, the only fish I saw caught were an eel, robin fish, 1 fluke and 1 small bluefish. We went to one spot and stayed there all night. I've since discovered that other fishing charters will go to different locations to find fish. Towards the end of the trip that's when most of the crew advised that the morning/day trip is much more better. The second star was added because of the friendliness of the crew. read more

Went on a Groupon and sat next to a woman who paid full for her and her two young daughters. Thank goodness we saw the deal because as fun as it was, 75 dollars is steep for 3 people and what you get. The boat itself was pretty clean, bathrooms were a bit better than what you'd expect. There was an upper deck which provided a 360 view and you were allowed to move freely. The ride was smooth and we saw a few seals here and there. I figured we'd be getting a bit of an education on the cruise. Unless you asked questions/were in the very front of the boat there wasn't much of a learning experience. There were a few posters left in the heated cabin on the floor which you could go inside to read. The hot chocolate was awesome, Swiss Miss at its finest. The boat set off and returned exactly on time. Would go again on a Groupon. If I had to pay full price how ever I would probably try one of the other cruises they offer instead. read more

Had my daughter's sweet sixteen aboard the Star Stream VIII. Had an amazing time and the party was considered the party of the year at the high school. The boat has a large dance floor and plenty of seating. The staff on board was very attentive to our preferences and needs and made everyone feel welcomed. Located half an hour from Queens, Capt Lou's offers a four hour fishing run twice a day (sometimes evenings too) for only $40, plus $3 fishing rod rental. They have a small private parking lot across the street. Very accommodating friendly staff-I never had to bait my own fish :) You cab bring your own food and beverages on board. if i was able to give a negative review i would! where are the mathematicians? what is the greatest negative number known to mankind?....whatever that is, then this is what this struggling charter deserves. noticing this establishment has only a few reviews, warns you right there! go out of business, stop hustling money! basic pictures that patrons have uploaded. now, what service does this charter provide besides sailing their fleet. highly disgusted in regards to the fleet and lack of customer service. where should i start.... if melissa is a representative of your establishment, while as she stated and i quote her "the owner is not available, he's on vacation with his family.".......appoint someone else, because she is rude, nasty, lacks interpersonal skills and is unprofessional! sorry that your bubble was finally burst! your fleet is outdated with its grungy carpeting through out, dirty stained windows, malfunctioning bathroom stalls that smell like a porter potty located on a construction site near freedom towers! catering is a joke! basic is an understatement. they run to costco or bj's and purchase a bag of rolls, mixed vegetables, basic penne and salmon filets cut in halves...cheap, cheap! nothing gourmet. my dinner at home was better than that crap. no decor, mixed match linens, plastic cutlery, plates, cups etc, horrible bartender.....pathetic. i think yelpers get my drift! save your time and your money! bc i wasted mine! melissa stated, and i quote the boat is cleaned every 2 weeks, potty as well. poor girl can't take constructive criticism. poor girl upset that i was the first to call her and this company out on their bs! had the nerve to be upset that i wasn't impressed by anything! to put icing on the cake, the local vendors they work with/recommend know that they are basic, don't provide anything and have bamboozled other clients! stay away! you've been warned! read more

Went on the whale watching cruise August 15, 2019, it was great! The day was beautiful for whale watching. The captain and staff were excellent in finding the whales and explaining all about the humpback and what they were or would be doing. Have to say they are excellent on finding the whales, it's not easy. Bring a cooler with drinks and food, there is none for sale on board. Also when the boat speeds up don't sit on sides toward the front unless you want to get soaked from the spray, back sides are drier. Bring paper towel for front outside seats they get really wet. Move to front for a better view once the boat slows down or stops. It's a great trip, would absolutely do it again and recommend it! read more

A very poor fishing result on 7/14/18. @ 1pm trip. This was a horrible fishing trip by a captain who obviously didn't care of anyone caught any fish on his watch! There was about 60 on the boat and maybe 10 fish were caught (including throwbacks )!!! The only fluke that we're caught were by fisherman that brought their own rigs. This bozo captain brought us and hour out and had us fishing with scares results for 1/2 an hour at a time ..... like he didn't care 1 bit that there was almost nothing biting... there was minimal action on the bait so we know it was crap locations! Upon looking at others who fished off of Long Island yesterday at the same time .... heavy numbers and monster fish!!!!! A ridiculous abound of poles getting tangled ... 4 mates to assist all these people ..... bad planning , bad plotting ... just overall a bad experience with the response from the crew " that's fishing " ...... we should have learned from our last trip from the same fleet when the boat had poor results.... but hey - never again and no one makes the same mistake we did...... oh but they took pics of the fish that were caught!!!! And will put them on their pages..... but not to say that they were the ONLY fish that were caught!!!! This was a sea bass / fluke trip that FLOPPPED!!!! read more

I held a 50th birthday party for my husband on November 10, 2012, right after Hurricane Sandy. (It was supposed to be a surprise, thanks Sandy.) We had people coming in from out of town and Captain Lou's staff (Melissa!) was very supportive of what ever we decided, have it or reschedule. But everyone needed a break, so we decided not to cancel. We had a 7-11 cruise to nowhere and approximately 70 guests (including some kids). My husband knew about the party, but not who was coming. The cruise was great! Even though the chef's restaurant was destroyed, he shopped and cooked a fabulous meal for us. The D.J. was lively and the cake was delicious (all supplied by Captain Lou). The bar was well stocked. The crew was friendly and really kept everything very nice and clean (no bathroom issues!). You can imagine the devastation that my guests would be looking at (depressing and so sad), but the crew charted a course that was clear so that my guests could concentrate on having fun. It's eight months later and people still talk about that party. I would definitely recommend! read more

This was my second seal watching cruise with Captain Lou's. The crew are friendly & knowledgeable, and we were able to see a lot of seals. I just had 2 issues: First, let me say that both times that I went out, the weather was pretty brutal (about 20 degrees and windy)..... The first people to board grab up all of the indoor seating and don't budge for the entire 2 hours. I'm OK with staying outside (you see more seals that way anyway), but when you want to go in for a minute to warm up, you practically have to crow bar yourself in. Maybe take fewer passengers out at a time? My second issue was the unruly, unsupervised children running all around the boat, despite the crew's warnings of ice and dangerous conditions. I know that this is fairly out of Captain Lot's control. Maybe they can consider an "adults only" tour once in a while? Other than that, it was a fun, affordable way to spend the day, and learn a little something at the same time. read more

This was such a great day! We had semi-decent weather and saw at least a dozen seals. It was cold but bearable so definitely layer up. The boat was a little crowded, especially the inside, but it seemed like everyone got a good view of the action. I was planning a surprise 50th Birthday party with Miss Freeport V and A WEEK BEFORE MY EVENT they called to tell me their boat was not ready, regardless if you had a contract, which I did...it apparently does not matter. Frank Rizzo, the owner of Miss Freeport simply said to me he was sorry. You can only imagine how extremely frustrated I was when I had to try to find another boat ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!!! I asked Frank Rizzo if he had any suggestions and he just said 'Im sorry', my boat is not ready, as I was expressing my concerns he HANGS UP ON ME!!! My guests were flying in from Florida, driving from Connecticut and from New Jersey expecting the surprise to be on a boat and I had no boat, thanks to Mr. Rizzo. After I cried for about an hour because of the frustration...(and a special thanks to Frank Rizzo, for hanging up on me), I tried to pull myself together and called CAPTAIN LOU FLEET hoping they would be able to help me out. I could not contain myself and told them what FRANK RIZZO, owner of Miss Freeport V did to me. In a matter of minutes Melissa, the office manager of Captain Lou Fleet called me back and says to me WHAT TIME DO YOU NEED THE BOAT FOR?? I almost fell off my chair! I could not believe they had the date available. The employees at Captain Lou Fleet were very professional, very organized and very accommodating. The food was very good, the boat was clean, beautiful and bigger than that Miss Freeport V. I for one depend on customer reviews when I need something and I wish people would post more reviews and be true to them. PEOPLE IF YOU NEED A PARTY BOAT, DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID. Went fishing this summer almost every week with 3-4 friends and the fishing was good.However to my fellow yelpers if you caught fish or not has little to do with your boat or captain.They can only do so much. time spent,location,tide,weather and most of all LUCK has to do with what you catch.The crew of the morning fluke run on sept 5 was in my opinion exceptionall!!! when you needed help they were fast and professional..they fully explained the size and limits of the fish,how they were responsible after filleting your catch and that was it!!! no more policing you or your fish.. The capt was amazing ..time and time again he would re-position the boat to get the most fish for everyone..late in the day we started to get hits but it was time to leave..not this guy he went around again and again and pushed it so all got fish...it cost him gas and his own short rest between trips but no matter. I was impressed..read my yelps..I do not impress easily. This was a fishing trip but through word of mouth I heard this capt lou fleet puts the same effort into all the different sea ventures they have..boat parties sunset whatevers evening blue fish trips...freeport was a two hour drive for us but ai will be back to capt lou's capt lou??? capt lou??? does not exactly invoke images of pat obrien or c s forrester novels....or tracy in old man of the sea but what the hell!! Captain Lou's Fleet is the best fishing experience on the South Shore of Long Island! the captain takes you out on a beautiful scenic ride through the canals of Freeport and under a bridge to the open water. We fished for hours. The crew was great. I don't like to bait my own hook and they did it for me each time. Then the fish were cleaned for me to take home! Awesome 8a-noon trip today on the Capt. Lou VII. Capt. was really on the fish -- lots of catches and action. Too bad about 1 in 10 were keepers. My boyfriend and I bought a Groupon for the 2 hour sunset cruise that goes out on Wednesday & Thursday evenings in the summer. I forget the name of the boat, but it was more than large enough to accommodate the 20-30 passengers aboard. I decided to do something different. We didn't want to go into the city, I found Freeport cruises. By the time we made our mind up we were not able to make online reservations. I decided to write an email asking if it's all possible to make an exception as we couldn't decide and i will give my credit card over the phone. Sure enough the next day i received an email saying they will be able to squeeze us in for the dinner cruise for 2 for June 8th. We were so happy. Everything was wonderful from the guy telling us when to board from the servers the food was great we were starving, the drinks. The view from the yacht was unreal. We had such a nice time going to Long island for the dinner cruise it was a night to remember. Completely dissatisfied with a recent fishing trip aboard the Capt. Lou 7. During the course of a 14 hr wreck trip, billed as "limited passenger", the Capt. consistently positioned the boat so that only the fares in the bow, caught fish (possibly just taking care of a few regulars?). As a result, everyone crowded to the front, in turn resulting in tangled lines and fraying tempers. Apparently the Capt. was only interested in enriching himself as he himself fished from the pulpit and caught more and larger fish than the fares, (obviously bound for the market). I would highly recommend to avid fisherman and the occasional angler alike to steer clear !!! read more

The fact is that you lied, Melissa. Not great for business. If you had required a deposit, we would have provided one. We even asked you if you wanted one, and you said it wasn't necessary since it was a Girl Scout troop. You didn't provide paperwork, you didn't honor your quote, and you can't turn around months later after you've booked close to 30 people on a charter who have changed around their vacations and work schedules just to do this fishing charter with their kids and charge more than double. This 12-15 people you're quoting is, again, another lie. We have TWO girl scout troops with siblings, of course it was a huge amount of people. My husband, 2 friends and I did a half day trip. We had a great time and enjoyed the day. However many of the crew members were not very nice. They would get annoyed when our lines got stuck or broke. There were 2 crew members, however, that were awesome-- CJ and a young boy. Was one thing my GF and i were planning to do for years, but never got around to doing. Until this weekend. Capt. Lou's Fleet provided an amazing 2-hour seal-watching journey, that has to be experienced,especially if you love sea animals. Was concerned that a late January excursion was going to be frigid. No worries! The charter boat provides three viewing options: top deck, outside deck, and, my fave, HEATED inner deck. Snacks, hot dogs, refreshments, including wine & beer are available, on-board. An oceanographer is on hand during the trip, to provide facts and viewing tips. There were about 20 seals we saw, mainly harbor seals. Very reasonable rates, and the crew were unusually friendly. Capt. Lou's has their own private lot, so parking isn't an issue. Stroll down Nautical Mile for a great meal,as well. Highly recommended. read more
