So the hubby and I was craving fried chicken. We do have our go to places here downriver. Tonight, I was thinking I should give another spot a try. So Captain Jays it is. Let's get to it shall we. Chicken: Bone in dark meat 8 piece. The flavor was definitely there. Perfectly cooked and Juicy. Definitely worthy contender of the ones we regularly frequent. Okra: it's alright. Batter was good, but the vegetable is a bit mushy. I didn't care much for it. The place was nice and clean when I walked in to pick up my to go order. Lots of desserts and some sides on display. Very enticing, so maybe next time I will give those a go. Thank you so much for reading my review. I hope this helps with your decision making experience. Enjoy your awesome yelptastic day!! read more

The person who took my payment was Lutie I'm taking she gave herself a tip without my permission so if anyone paid with they debt card on 3/14/25 I you probably should take a look to she if Luite tipped herself without you're permission to! Basically she committed a crime and the Manger of the place wouldn't take time to speak with me! Be care Lutie is a theft! read more

This is the worst captain Jay's in Taylor, Michigan. They have people to sit there drive thru and wait for their food for half an hour while other people is in the back waiting for their food that's already done. They don't let nobody on the inside. This place sucks This is the worst captain Jay's ever. read more

Wanted to give this place a try and finally did. Had the number 11, 6 large shrimp and 2 catfish combo. Includes fries, bread, and drink. I also had a order of hush puppies. Everything was pretty good for almost $20.00. It was really filling too. Would go back here again for sure . read more

One person working the front- taking orders, doing drive up, taking phone orders, and packing food from the kitchen pass. I waited 20 minutes for one combo meal. She told me the kitchen was slow because the health inspector was there. Then she proceeded to say they didn't have coleslaw so she substituted potato salad- to go with fries! (Good thing I like potatoes.) I picked feathers off one of the wings (guess the health inspector missed that). The lemon seasoning gave the only flavor to the chicken, though it was hot and very juicy. Fries were good. Didn't even bother with the potato salad. I did leave before finishing my meal since a homeless person reeking of urine entered the establishment and was yelling and trying to get my attention. At no point did any management try to ask him to leave. Bottom line- long wait for bland food and severely understaffed. I don't need to hurry back. read more

It's ok. Nothing more, nothing less but I love their lemon pepper seasoning. The few times I have went to this location the associates are friendly. read more

This was my first ever visit to Captain Jay's and it was a so-so experience I got the number 1 combo, a 3 piece order of whole wings, and a small order of hush puppies. The positives first. The guy who took my order was nice and helpful. They fries were abundant and tasty, the coleslaw was fantastic, the lemon pepper seasoning they offer is yummy, and the hush puppies weren't horrible. Now, the negatives. The portions of everything else was skimpy. Two small fillets of cod, breaded in what seems to be a corn meal breading. The flavor was bland other than the lemon pepper seasoning, but that was on the outside. And honestly, I prefer a battered cod. That's just me. For the price I paid for the combo, you should at least get three small fillets. The side of coleslaw was so small, I though it was a small side of tartar sauce. Really disappointing, considering it may have been the tastiest part of the meal. The hus puppies tasted ok, but they were small and super dense. They could do with a bit of leavening. The wings didn't suck, but they were smallish and not really impressive in the taste department. All in all, I have to say I was disappointed. They have a pretty extensive menu, and maybe they have better options, but I'm not sure I would return. I would have been happier if I had just went down the street to Long John Silver's. read more

Stopped by the Taylor store craving chicken on 2/23, and was not disappointed. One of the employees, Darren I believe, was sharp, attentive and professional. He makes it a point for all to put the customers first. And the blond gal at the counter (didn't catch her name) was fun and efficient. The chicken was good, and the staff, excellent. read more

This location is the worst Captain Jay's I've been to. The food was cooked too fast crispy so of and dark in color outside and undercooked batter on the inside. The girl that took my order asked me 3 times if I wanted lemon pepper. There are too many kids in this location and not enough adults that care about the business or the quality of the food. I had to put everything in my air fryer to finish cooking properly. Perhaps they should get a cook from the location up the street in Detroit, they're chicken and fish never disappoints. read more

((( Walk in orders, Pick up's & Phone orders was NONSTOP. ))) The #BEST Customer service I have ever received. Thanks to Miss. Demya!!! As well as the young lady that is the manager. I visited captain Jay's on Monday December 20th 2020. At 9:45 p.m.. I originally only needed a 5 piece shrimp. But I ended up spending $42 because the customer service was so amazing!!! Alsoooooo... Miss. Demya's work ethic is incredibly remarkable!!! She was running the front counter, taking phone orders, packing the food orders, cleaning when possible or necessary. All the while keeping a smile on her face. Miss Demya's positive vibe was MOST DEFINITELY. SUPER contagious throughout the whole establishment. Beyond refreshing!!! Unfortunately the food was not on point. Thus the reason I gave 3 stars instead of 5 stars. I order lunch or dinner for the crew 2 - 3 Time's a month. We've always been completely satisfied with the food. I'm not quite sure what was going on with the food. Or maybe new crew in the kitchen. Who know's... Definitely unsatisfactory... A let down to say the least. Hopefully just a fluke of some sort. I am crossing my fingers and toes. That my next order is delicious and satisfying like normal. I completely understand mishaps and hiccups. So, we are not going to turn our back's. On our favorite fish/chicken spot in Michigan. Unless tonight's food is now the "new norm". :( :( :( ***Fingers are SUPER DEE DUPER crossed*** read more

First time at Captain Jay's. I ordered the shrimp and fish combo. The so-called large shrimp were really small. The perch was cooked hard which is how I usually like my fish cooked, but it was too hard and the seasoning was bland. The shrimp was seasoned pretty good. The inside was clean and bright and I noticed they had a drive thru. I would try the place again. read more

I have been going to Captain J's on Telegraph since they opened. Great food, great customer sevice until TODAY!!! I work in customer service every day taking care of our Veterans. I always greet our Veterans with Good morning, good afternoon How may I help you. Whoever trained or didn't train the two young, disrespectful, no Customer service experience whatsoever need to be FIRED. O realize everyone needs a job, but them 2 young ladies have absolutely NO customer service skills whatsoever. We ordered late the staff treat us terrible what we ordered at 9:30 we spent close to $200. They burnt the wings. The fries were uncooked. Chicken tenders were good. The woman at the counter had the NASTIEST ATTITUDE! This was a doordash order that got messed up a second time. I was fine with first mess up. Stuff happens, I get it. But the second time I was able to come right in. The woman at the counter acted like I was wrong for wanted something other than cheese cake for my order being messed up. I didn't even get to tell them about the quality of their food which was awful as well. I was Alamo's immediately shut down and told that was with door dash and it was nothing that they could do. NEVER going back here again. read more

Terrible. I ordered five pieces of chicken (legs and thighs). They were over fried and the bones were very dark. Needless to say, most got dumped in the trash. A complete complete waste on my money and time. Management (or so they presented themselves) take no responsibility for preparing and selling an inferior product. read more

Glad there's finally one of these that opened up here. A definite must for anyone looking for some good chicken and fish with actual seasoning/flavor that keeps you interested. Overall 10/10 beers the competition by a landslide read more

Terribly long wait for three tenders. No Sauce No napkins. Won't be going back there again.

I stopped in to Captain Jay's at lunchtime. I went thru the drive thru and ordered the cod combo. I pulled up to the window, paid, and was handed my drink. I then waited 9 minutes to receive my food. I watched employees standing around, one was leaning against the wall in the drive thru. another was drinking something out of a paper cup. Meanwhile, cars were lined up behind me waiting. This was at 1 pm, primetime for the lunch rush and was no sense of urgency and no food prepared because the employee told me they were waiting for the fish as she handed me the bag of food. The fish was a rectangle (2) and very light in color. I have had much better fish at any coney island. The fries were ok but nothing special. I won't return. read more

This is theeee worst place every despite the food is good I will never order from this place again. The customer service is the worst service in history. I order my food thru DoorDash and I was missing fries ranch and lemon pepper. They blamed doordash for all these items. First off when you order the food and you ask for lemon pepper it always gets put on there. Why in the world would DoorDash open the food to take these items. They messed up and won't admit to anything and wouldn't even allow me to come get my items they where rude disrespectful and have not customer service skills at all. And if anyone reads the reviews there are many people on here dealing with the disrespectful people that work here. No customer deserves to be disrespected because of another mistake. I will make this go viral. read more

My chicken was flavorless and the added lemon pepper was not even tasteful. I spent $50 on a meal and was highly disappointed. Captain Jay's you got to do better. I know if I went to the city of Detroit. and placed my order I would have this problem. Taylor location you need to get it together. i would advise that if you purchase chicken from this location that you need to do what I had to do when I got home. ADD SEASONINGS ON YOUR CHICKEN!!!!!! read more

Terrible service. Waited at the drive through window for over 30 mins for them to tell me they were out of something even after charging me for it. Everyone seemed like they were just goofing off. Forgot to give my sides and almost didn't give me my pops. Got home to eat and the fish wasn't even crispy. It looked like the breading still needed to be cooked. read more

As good as the food is, I just can't justify the headache I get every time I walk into this place. If you have been here, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. It has always been the case until now with this store that the staff would gladly assist with any issues that they caused with orders, either in person or via DoorDash. However they are now refusing to even discuss any of their inhouse issues or take care of them without dealing with DoorDash. This store has lost a regular customer due to their serious lack of customer service. read more
