This last time I got ONE potato and three of the mussels were not open. I pointed it out to the wait staff and no reaction. (It is debatable if mussels that have not opened during steaming are OK to eat.) The coleslaw was gross & slimy. The hush puppies were fantastic. But the reason I hesitate to go back is the loud boisterous music! I could not eat in peace! But I have to say on both occasions the wait staff was as nice and welcoming as could be.

I am extremely glad I did today and can't wait to come back again. I understand it is an oyster house, but it is in Carrollton which is not near a large body of water. That being said, I was extraordinarily surprised at how fresh and delicious the raw oysters were and I feel the price is quite fair. Today I enjoyed the Tulane Avenue Shrimp as my entrée from the appetizers menu. The shrimp were tender and I loved all of the flavor. The little crusty pieces of bread that came with it were perfect for soaking up the sauce. It was a very large appetizer. I also had a cup of the gumbo that came with some garlic bread. The gumbo for me was just OK. I enjoyed it and liked the flavor, but it felt more like a savory stew to me than a gumbo. The service was good and friendly. I completely understand the aesthetic inside; however, the wooden benches are not very comfortable. That's just a minor preference for me. Overall this place is a hidden gem.

There is an area for seating outside and what looks like a banquet room for large groups. The service was wonderful. Our server, Cheyenne, was very friendly and took very good care of us. We ordered the Sailor's Boil, which came with crab legs, shrimp, lobster, potatoes, and corn. The sauce was delicious, as was all the seafood and sides. We had a piece of strawberry cheesecake for a birthday dessert, which was also delicious. Be prepared to be messy and to work for your food (cracking the shells). I would highly recommend visiting for a nice night out.

Located slightly off the beaten path,…read moreRoberto's boasts a beautifully clean atmosphere that evokes a sense of being somewhere far more coastal. The raw bar is front and center, and there are several great options for oysters. There is a social hour option for chef's choice oysters, I believe it was a dozen for $24. I would've loved to indulge, but my friends were not so inclined towards raw oysters. We enjoyed the peel-and-eat shrimp and the blue crab fritters as appetizers. Both had phenomenal flavor, but the portions left a bit to be desired. For my main course, I tried the low country boil as I always love to see an elevated take on a messy classic. The spices were a bit underwhelming for my liking, but everything was cooked very well. I tried some of my friend's redfish, and it was clearly the star of the show. There was a wonderful textural balance between the soft pillowiness of the fish and the crispy exterior. The downside for me was the service. We had a difficult time tracking down our server, and when we alerted another member of the staff that we needed something, there was no attempt to resolve the issue expeditiously. We had to wait another 10 minutes before flagging down our original server. We were dining close to the lunch/dinner shift, so I'm willing to give them the grace that it was a fluke and not a habit. I would love to give Roberto's another try someday, the menu has a great variety, and the ambiance is hard to compete with.
