For fast food, this particular Captain D's is not too fast. It took about twenty minutes for my food to come out. The staff is friendly and this location is just off of Interstate 75. I ordered the blackened white fish and for my side dishes, I went with coleslaw and broccoli (trying to eat healthier). This particular Captain D's location is in a shopping plaza just off of Interstate 75, so parking is not an issue. It is in a standalone building next to the Burger King, also in another standalone building. The meal was a bit bland, but it is fast food. At least fast food in the type of business model if not in the actual delivery of the food. I guess I will give it three stars as an overall review. I don't know if they're short of staff or what but this is about the worst captain D's food I've ever had. Can you imagine spreading that is tough? Well this is tough. Green beans that you can barely eat. They are so salty. The only redemptive part of this meal is the coleslaw, the tartar sauce, and the cocktail sauce all of which are prepackaged. I really like Captain D's, and since there isn't a location where I live I often stop to grab a quick meal when traveling. After exiting the interstate I followed several large signs that directed me to Captain D's. I ordered a 4 piece fish meal with okra and fries. Not the healthiest meal but I don't often have the opportunity to eat here so I ordered my favorites. The fries and okra were excellent, however the fish was too greasy. Usually it is crisper and not greasy, but this fish tasted alike it had sat in grease too long and absorbed too much of it. While traveling, we stopped for some dinner. I decided on Captain D's for myself. I only like the fish and hush puppies, so that's what I asked for. The gal in that magical box informed me that it would be cheaper to get the meal and just substitute out the sides for all hush puppies. No one has ever offered that to me, so I was thrilled to learn there is a cheaper way to order what I like. She was very friendly and polite. The wait was a little long, but that seems to be the norm at any Captain D's. The problem is, I became violently ill within minutes of eating my meal. Like, BAD. Being the only adult in the car, it certainly made the remaining 6 hours of our drive REALLY unpleasant and I became scared that I was not going to make it to our destination. And of all times, nearly every single rest stop is closed down for remodeling. So, sorry to whomever got to clean up my barf from the sidewalks at the rest areas. We finally made it, and I continued to struggle all night long and all day today. I'm just now starting to feel human again, at 7 p.m. I have NEVER had this happen when eating Captain D's, so I really feel that something was very wrong with my food. Owner of Franchise called Me and was Very Courteous and Gracious and was Sorry about what had happened and told Me that the next time I was up that way (which is 20 miles from where I live ) that a Meal for My whole Family would Be on Him. I thanked Him. We went there today and the same Manager that refused My E-gift card was on Duty and was Very Cold and seemed Angry that I came back, She took My order and walked away never to bee seen again unit when I had to go back to counter because the order was short the hush puppies with My meal plus the extra order. She seemed to have an even worse attitude then when we came in. It took 20 minute for the food to come out and everything was cold but the hush puppies. If this Manager is this Miserable to Her Customers then maybe She is in the wrong Profession. This visit could have easily gotten a 5 rating but because of the Managers Attitude and the Cold Food but I can only give a 3 . I gave this 4 stars for the value. This is a really good fast food meal for the price. I ordered grilled fish and a skewer of shrimp over rice with broccoli and okra sides, hush puppies and tea for 12 bucks. If I'm being super picky, the fish and shrimp were a little heavy on the seasoning and the broccoli and okra were a bit light on the seasoning. But, overall, a good meal on the road for meatless Friday. read more

I've stopped here a few times headed to Atlanta. It's now become a part of my routine when I take this trip to stop in at this location. It's fast food but it's cooked fresh to order so there is usually a little wait. They have Southern Style Whitefish which I usually get or the grilled whitefish and shrimp skewers over a bed of rice. They also offer grilled tilapia or salmon. I think the food is good for fast food. Certainly better than BK or Mickey D's that's for sure. This time I ordered Healthier side options...corn in the cob and steamed broccoli with my fish. My meal was tasty, filling, and fresh and I couldn't ask for more when ordering fast food. The side dishes in this place are not good..SLAW is the only thing we have had that was ok. My teen boys won't even eat here. I have been here several times...the last time I ordered a $4.99 combo platter with an extra order of Batter dipped fish and a LOADED baked potato for a side which costs extra, and a LARGE ICED TEA....I got back on the interstate and discovered NO EXTRA FISH and no LOADED baked potato and a large COKE was given to me not Iced Tea...so...that was disappointing... Then today I stopped by it took 20 minutes in the drive thru there were 2 cars in front of me...I ordered a GALLON of ICED TEA so I know they got that right and I ordered a 4 piece fish meal so they got that right..the Hush puppies BATTER DIPPED fish and slaw are the best things they have. I have eaten at Captain D's across the country for more than twenty years, but this location is in the running for the worst experience that I have had with this company. My wife and I were the only sitting customers at 3 p.m. when we ordered 2 sampler platters. My wife, who is legally blind, asked if fries were included with the sides and was told that they were not. As she ordered one of the sides that were on the menu as additionally charged, she didn't realize that she would charged. When I asked about it, a young worker who sat on a lobby couch for the hour we were on location, rudely responded that the price was written in plain sight. Ignoring her rudeness, I had dropped a lemon wedge, picked it up and asked where could I put the piece. I was directed by the same seated employee to the back of the seating area to the garbage container with rudeness, rather than offering to help me dispose of the lemon. I would have ignored the poor customer service, but when the meal was served, we found that everything had been fried so hard in oil that it was practically inedible. The cook announced that at least it was served hot. To be fair, the shrimp and sides were well prepared, but anything that had been cooked in oil was too hard to eat. There was no customer comment card in the seating area, as I have often seen in previous visits. I will probably return to the place, hoping to find a return to the quality I have come to expect from this restaurant but I am concerned that this location has only earned three stars on the YELP reviews. We're on a road trip and we were tired of typical fast food. We saw this place on a billboard and decided to try it out after searching it on yelp. My favorite things about this place are that the food is made fresh to order and they offer grilled & blackened fish..(& healthy options for sides). Horrible Service!!! Stopped for dinner with family. Placed order at the counter. Somehow our order was sent to drive through. 25 min later had to ask and they found order at drive through window. We ordered a side of fries at 7:36pm. And took to 8:25 pm to receive. Staff was inattentive and arguing amongst themselves. Some were distracted using cell phones. Went to this establishment because of the proximity to our hotel and it was late, figured fast food..take to room because we were tired. Got there..went in...not alot of people in there but seemed as though everyone was waiting...and come to find out alot WERE waiting...I ordered 2 meals and one side of shrimp....I waited for over 30 minutes to get my food but only after they messed up my order after I paid for it , I noticed...I had changed one thing. Then saw another person come up and ask for a refund as their shrimp were hard as a rock and other side items were cold...I noticed the salads, which I did not order, but heard others complain about them also, which I understand why, as I saw them in the clear containers, looked like 3 pieces of iceberg lettuce torn up, didn't even fill bottom part of plastic container and one cherry tomatoe on top. When my order came up..it was on trays, I had said carry out...that took yet another 5-8 minutes for them to put in containers...there was more breading crumbs in with the fish..cole slaw had a bad taste and the shrimp were cold. After I went back to the hotel..I was telling receptionist about it and she said, if I had known you were going there, I would have told you not to. There was not a lack of employees or cooks , the best that I could tell, there were 3 to 4 cooks in back and 3 on front line. I am going back to that area in the near future but will assuredly not be going back to Captain D's. My suggestion is to do a surprise inspection after trying to place an order like an ordinary person. The time I was there was about 730-8 on a Friday evening. read more
