We have been violently sick from our visit to here on Friday. The whole bank holiday weekend me and…read moremy partner have had upset stomachs committing and visiting the toilet due to our visit at Chung Ku. We visited them after reading the reviews and they weren't bad, we get there and order drinks. There is tissue in the glass for bottled water like it's been polished with toilet roll. The coke did not taste like authentic genuine coke. we order the food- I ordered a 'sizzling skillet steak' that come like salt water soup with chunks of cheap steak in - no sizzling. Partner ordered crispy chilli chicken that had a consistency like squid- cheap rubbery chicken. He also ordered pork dumplings which he said were like a slimey Greggs sausage roll. I tried forcing the food down me as it was expensive for what it was but it was vulgar. Not once did a member of staff ask was everything okay, and when we were paying I said it was disgusting and we got ignored. I have emailed with no reply, also left a trip advisor review to which their reply was defensive and not addressing how truly poor the restaurant and the food is. The restaurant itself looks old, there is rubbish in the front of things used to try block entry ways so you can't see how neglected it truly is. Will be telling everyone just how awful this place is and I hope our £70 food bill can contribute not to the owners pocket but being put back into the restaurant to make it cleaner. This place has a food hygiene rating of 1. Need I say more

Lau's Fish and chip shop is in keeping with the Liverpool trend of mixing various forms of takeaway…read moreunder one roof mainly chinese and traditional english fish and chips. The problem for me is I'm not sure if I really get it and I'm not sure whether I enjoy these two types of cuisine being mixed together in such close proximity. I believe it takes a top quality eatery to mix so many types of food and still manage to keep them all at the highest level of quality. Lau's for me does not manage to get the balance right. The front window of the shop advertises good food and good portions and the portions part is actually quite true I'm still just not sure about the standard of the food. For me the chips were far too greasy and the chinese dishes seemed to lack much of the flavour and spice you would get in a real top notch eatery. I haven't been brave enough to eat their kebabs yet but even by kebab standards they do not look particularly appetising. The prices are okay but nothing exceptional to draw in the student crowd and I feel they need to try some more student orientated offers to keep them coming in. The staff are nice enough and they try hard to serve you quickly and efficiently which is what you want in terms of fast food. The shop itself doesnt look great from the front not dirty exaclty but perhaps a little bit scruffy which is not really what you want from a food establishment. This place isnt exactly bad but the food has not really made a fan out of me either. My advice would be if you want a good chinese go to a chinese takeaway and for chippy go to a traditional chippy not somewhere which tries a fusion of the two and never really manages to pull it off.

They say if you…read morework with food it puts you off eating, and that can certainly be said of my 15-year-old self. But I won't tell you about some of the atrocities I witnessed, as that wouldn't be fair. Instead, let me talk about being on the other side of the counter. Because despite working there, yes I do still use this chippy, as do most people in the surrounding neighbourhood, and it is thought of as the best in the area. If you're a young attractive girl Chris can be a bit flirty with you (I take it I wasn't attractive at 15) but other than that it is a pretty good chippy. The food is always the right temperature, the curry sauce never spills out of the styrofoam cups, and the chips are some of the best I've ever tasted. The prices are good too, as you can tell because at 6pm and 10pm the place is always full of people getting chippy dinners or settling the munchies while walking back up to campus (Carnetic halls is just up the road).

Staff are friendly but don't ask for an opinion and hope for a honest one as they will tell u its 'sloveley' no matter what you are ordering (I've been fooled by this before ). Salt and pepper chips are nice though.
