Although she hadn't been told by the hospital that she shouldn't eat she decided as there was a chance she might had a tube shoved down her throat she rather not eat, just in case. I therefore only needed to buy lunch for myself. I must confess I have a favoured chippy in Rhyl but on this occasion the rain was chucking it down and going to my favoured place would have meant a long and damp detour so given that we were passing Brothers anyway I figured it was worth a try. I hadn't realised before that there is a dining area inside the chip shop and they also serve kebabs and pizzas, although there didn't appear to much demand for these at lunchtime. What was noticeable was that the dining area was full which on a quiet and wet day was a good sign. However I just wanted something to take out and here's where the unprecedented incident occurred. I walked in with my wife and ordered a large sausage and chips for myself and as requested nothing for the better half. I can only assume the man behind the range thought I wasn't doing my husbandly duty because when he served the food up he added an extra large sausage, looked at my wife, and said on the house! This is the first time I've ever been given free food in a chippy and came as a very pleasant surprise, although I did wonder if I should be worried about a man wanting to share his sausage with my wife. Of course any freebie would only have been any good if the food was up to scratch which I have to say it was. The chips were freshly cooked and properly cut and the sausage was, well it was a typical chip shop sausage but there's nothing wrong with that. Top notch chippy fayre and a free sausage, what more can you ask for? Oh, and just for the record my wife decided to break her fast and ended up eating the second sausage, along with half of my chips :-(

There is some daily offers and some different items for you to buy, curries, etc. There is ample off road parking with a Londis next door should you require anuthing else. Two pubs across the road so always handy if you live locally and are making your way home after a couple of pints. As with all similar places it can get quite bust around meal times.

However after recently attending a training session at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and needing a quick lunch I found myself following the signpost for 'Village Centre' in search of cheap food. I spotted the Castle View Chippy nestled between two convenience stores and figured I'd give it a try. At first glance it looks a little unloved. The interior is a bit dated looking and there was little cooked food on display on the counter. However it was busy which is always a good sign, particularly as Bodelwydden isn't the most bustling of places. It turns out that most food, fish, pies etc are cooked to order which explained why there was so little on display. I didn't have a great deal of time to spare so I opted to just go with chips and curry sauce. I ordered a small portion of chips which turned out to be quite a generous portion, enough that I was glad I hadn't ordered a large portion. The chips weren't by any means the best I've ever had but were edible. The curry sauce was typical chip shop curry and perfectly acceptable. All in all my view of Castle View Chippy is that it offers decent enough food but no real surprises.

They looked like pieces of wood and the 2 or 3 I ate, had no taste whatsoever. I always went to Les & Rita's because it was a safe bet, the food was always fresh and well prepared so I knew I wouldn't be left disappointed. I no longer work in Rhyl but from time to time we pop into Rhyl for a change of scene and often head to Les & Rita's for lunch in the sit-down area. If you believe that a visit to a traditional seaside resort isn't complete without sitting down to a traditional fish and chip meal then the 'special' which comprises fish, chips, mushy peas, bread & butter plus a pot of tea for £4.75 is a no-brainer. Good quality fresh food, friendly and quick service and all at a reasonable price. You can't go wrong here. One other useful addition to the menu is the kids 'meal in a box' which includes lunch, a drink, a lollipop and a toy. If you've got kids who can't see beyond a McDonald's happy meal this is an option that should keep them happy. My daughter recently polished off a helping of chicken nuggets and chips and commented that it was just like going to McDonalds except the chips were much nicer and you got more of them which sums it up quite nicely.

The batter is absolutely tasteless and full of oil. The praws are not any better but at least the batter had some taste. This is among the worst Fish & Chips I have ever eaten and any London pub does much better than this restaurant.
