I hosted my daughter's bridal shower recently at Captain Bob's. The owners were very accommodating to my needs. They let us in in a little early to decorate. We also needed to figure out our floor plan to include a gift area, lemonade bar and cake table. The wait service was excellent and very accommodating to our guests. The food was delicious. The chef helped us customize the meal plan to match with the theme, even went above and beyond to make a homemade salad dressing to stay on theme. We started with a salad, bread and butter and choice of 3 different entrees. Everyone one enjoyed their meal selection. For dessert, they served the with coffee to all the guests. A few guests need to leave early and a take home cake was available. We are members of the Forever Foodies Club so it was a BYOB private event and were able to provide alcohol for our guests in OC. 5 stars read more

A lovely dining experience! We got the coconut shrimp, honey mustard salmon, and the chicken and shrimp pasta in rose sauce. The coconut shrimp had a nice sweet chili dipping sauce that added a nice amount of heat. All three were tasty though the glaze on the salmon was a little too sweet for me. The sweet potatoes that came with the salmon were also a little dry. Overall, this place was solid and met my expectations, however it was a little overpriced for what it was. We were a large party looking for a restaurant with outdoor seating for dinner. After calling around Captain Bob's was the only place to give us a reservation. Appetizers were hot and delicious!! Eggplant fries, calamari, onion rings and vegetable egg rolls were enjoyed by all. Coconut shrimp were extremely large and breading was excellent!! Everyone enjoyed their meals and service was great! Young wait staff are nice. If u r in a hurry for breakfast, you might get impatient as food serves up slow. Decor is nice enough. Eggs cooked perfectly. But the coffee is very weak and when brought a new cup the same weak coffee was served. My husband ordered chip beef on toast and said it was ok. Homefries are tater tots which was disappointing. Food isn't salty which we are glad to have no or low salt. Would I go back? Not sure, if I want coffee with my breakfast I'd say no. If coffee is not important, I'd probably try again cause eggs were cooked perfectly. read more

Good food with a friendly server and prompt, courteous service -- you can't ask for much more than that in OCNJ during the height of the summer season. Sure, it may be a little off the beaten path, but not at all inconvenient, just the "other end" of the island. We'll be back, because the fish was fresh, the scallops were cooked perfectly, and the crabcakes were rich (but not over the top) and delicious. I love a simple menu (with less than five pages of mediocre food.) This menu was a single page of about a dozen thoughtful, well developed meals, just enough to satisfy anyone. read more

First time to this restaurant . We are home owners in OCNJ. Food was good. Nicely decorated HOWEVER... I would never return. Waitress was tending to another table next to us. I was looking that way because the kids at the table were so cute ordering their Mickey pancakes. The bitchy waitress looked at me raised her hand and said " I ll be there in a minute." First of all I wasn't even trying to get her attention . As she walked passed our table she said " I'm very busy I get to you shortly " Again with a raised hand. Very rude. I did not say anything nor make any gesture towards her that I needed her attention . She embarrassed me in front of the entire restaurant which is small. Have some respect for your patrons . If I give you a hard time certainly you can react. But do not attack me in front of the entire restaurant because you are busy. I said nothing nor tried to get your attention . Clearly it wasn't that busy . Low class. Rude. read more

Their breakfast is good, we had the veggie omelette and over easy eggs with scrapple. Scrapple was done perfect, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The eggs were great too. Reasonable pricing for vacation resort. My only complaint is the coffee, I thought the 3rd time would be a charm but it wasn't. The coffee is so weak it tastes like they reuse the grinds. I don't know how they can serve breakfast with such horrible coffee. Next time I'm walking in with my own Dunkin Donuts or Wawa coffee. Please, please find a better/stronger blend. read more
