We have an annual family tradition to eat at this restaurant. So, on a recent visit, we were…read moreshocked to see that the pricing here had been jacked up about 30% on average. (ie. previously $24 plates are now $34 etc). The previously free and bottomless focaccia bread baskets are now $5 and come with 5 or 6 small pieces of focaccia. That's about $1 per piece of bread. Even the caprese salad - an appetizer consisting of 1 or 2 large, sliced, red tomatoes, with mozzarella cheese, basil and balsamic reduction - was $19!!! Similar scale Italian restaurants in the area offer the same dish (it's not cooked, so there aren't significant recipe differences) for $12. The food that we received was good, but not good enough to warrant the price increases. (For reference, our family of 4 usually eats here for around $125 before tip. This time it was closer to $175 before tip for the same menu items). So it looks like we'll be taking our annual tradition somewhere else.

I thought I had already left a scathing review after my experience, but for some reason, I did not. I don't remember what I ordered the one and only time my husband and I ate at this restaurant, but I do remember that it was inedible, so I sent it back, and ordered something else. Later, when the bill arrived, I saw they had charged me for half of my first meal. So I flagged the server about it, and they were like "well you ate half of it " and I explained I had taken 2-3 bites, the later ones simply to make sure I did indeed dislike it, and then my husband had a bite to confirm I wasn't tripping and that it was in fact terrible. 3-4 bites was NOT half the meal. It wasn't even a quarter. When I tried to push back on that, I was told "well, we know what our portion sizes look like, and half the meat was missing." The crazy part about this is that they seemed to truly believe I had gotten double the meat portion they had actually put in front of me. It was enraging. We paid and vowed to never return. I have told anyone who would listen about the time a restaurant refused to comp an entree that sucked because they accused me of l y i n g about how much of the meal I had consumed. The crazy part is that my husband and I would have returned to try this place again had the staff just believed me from the jump that I wasn't trying to pull a fast one. I normally am never happy about a restaurant closing, but Piastra? Good riddance.

My wife and I have dined here twice now; once on our wedding night and again on our Anniversary…read more Neither time did they disappoint us, but this most recent visit my tagliatelle nero di mare pasta could have benefitted from a little adjustment. The overwhelming flavor came from the dried Calabrian chiles, which had not been reconstituted properly into the sauce, so it also left me wondering whether the gritty bites came from that or if the clams & mussels had been cleaned properly. Regardless, the sauce lacked depth. The fresh pasta clung together in clumps, an indication that the chef had not mixed it diligently during the cooking process, but from a visual perspective, it looked to be on point. I must confess, the lamb carpaccio is one of the most distinct, unique dishes that I have tasted in quite a while; as a caveat to that, it is a bold flavor profile, so if you prefer a neutral, familiar red meat such as beef, proceed with caution and an open mind. My wife had the lobster and cavatelli, which was by far the most fully developed dish of all, creamy savory richness coating slightly dense bites of pasta, reminiscent of gnocchi, and the lobster was definitely present, which is the exception rather than the rule with most creamy dishes advertised to contain lobster. Our server was attentive, professional, polite, personable & well spoken. I can't say that I have any critiques in that area. Though she did not introduce herself, I presume she was the owner, came by to ensure that our meal was more than satisfactory. Even the lady tending to our drinks revisited the table with diligence. The inside has a very open floor plan, although it could probably have a layout redesign so that some tables don't make some patrons feel as though they are in the way. The decor is a blend of industrial chic with modern, local art lining the walls, most pieces being slightly above average amateur status. They have a private dining area dedicated to larger parties if you plan ahead and give them notice. There seemed to only be one lavatory for the whole restaurant, but it's possible that I didn't look long enough. All in all, a nice place for Italian food if you want to break free from the typical American-Italian offerings. Our meal was $130 for two entrees, two glasses of wine, an appetizer and a desert, with tip included. I'd say that's about on par with just about every other restaurant that doesn't have a drive thru. Buon appetito & mangia!

The food was incredible, and I mean that. We ordered the margarita pizza and penne vodka with blackened chicken. Both were cooked perfectly and presented well in a timely manner. Free small parking lot in front. Free extra parking across the street. The total was about $150 for 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 2 drinks, and a dessert. Pros The quiet, intimate, and classy atmosphere was exactly what I needed for my family. When we first arrived, our table was not ready and we had to wait outside. However we were given continuous updates on when the table would be ready, they apologized, and they were very understanding. Considering we were a large party in an intimate space, we understood and only waited about 20 minutes before the table was ready. You could tell the food was fresh, the orders came fast, and the service was amazing. The fresh in house pasta took everything to the next level. It was the perfect night out. Cons The establishment is intimate so I do not think it would ideal for extra large parties.
