This was a sad experience. The server was nice but a 45+ minute wait for a steak that was over cooked and lacked favor. Like it was burned quick. Not sure how you mess up mashed potatoes. Cooked too long? Dry with no butter or herb taste. And no butter came out with meal to mask it. By the time our whole table got their food to time we were asked if we needed boxes was 13 minutes. Still tipped because clearly this place is hurting. Short staffed but only a 1/4th seating used and still long wait for poor food. Menu made no sense with lack of objective size measurements and quantities. The irony is they said they don't ruin steak. They did. Waste of $35+ when I could get a $10 steak and butter and recreate the experience. read more

The food was just ok. The calzone was a little bland. The lasagna roll was limited on filling, and was covered in way too much sauce. The stuffed shrimp was the best of the three. If you're looking for out of the way and a steak or pasta you'll crave long after you leave this is your place!! I wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Capitol city with some work colleagues so we headed to New Berlin on a recommendation of a local and am I glad we did. It will be a tough place to find because you'll think your map program is sending you the wrong way. It's not!! We walked in and had great draft beer and the bar was pretty busy. Once we sat down we did salads that hit the mark with flavor and crunch then moved into the main meal. Some of us got pasta and others got ribeyes steak by the inch!! Oh my! I don't know if it was because it was so freshly cut or well lightly seasoned but it was one of the all time best ribeye I've had. The owner Jeff was there and it left everyone with a smile. We have used this restaurant as our weekly pizza spot for years... they had ups and downs, staffing issues, etc but that's normal. Last week I ordered my usual... cheeseburger pizza and got home and it had bacon and green peppers on it (in addition to burger) So I called to tell them and they argued that since they "showed me the pizza" it was my fault. I agree it is a hideout. We passed it a few times then pulled up to a gas station attached and was a bit worried. Finally found the door and was greeted with a not so friendly lady but seated immediately and had a great server. Ordered ravioli and came out fast but still frozen so we got new ones quickly. Waitress was great. Ravioli was just ok. My husband's steak was actually wonderful. My shrimp dish Was ok but mashed potatoes were fake and terrible. All in all it was ok. Get the steak!! read more

What a wonderful surprise to find this restaurant! My husband had the pizza and I had had pork chop dinner. The pork chops were the best I have ever had along with the green beans and house salad. Tried my husbands pizza (and we love pizza ) it was very good. Service was great, everyone was very friendly. We will definitely will be back. Starting this review very angry. Angry that this place has been around for a while but it finally popped-up on our radar. Attached to a Fast Stop gas station in tiny New Berlin you would expect a gray-water hot dog or microwave burrito. NO-----Try Tapas, 21 day aged steak, fresh pasta and incredible pizza!!! Love the place and will be back for adventurous Tapas menu which is available Thu-Sat only. A DDD feel and all enjoyed their meal. Who knew? I do now and I will be back. read more

We drove 25 minutes to get treated like unwelcome guests for mediocre food. we walk up and a lady is outside smoking and we are like "how do we get in?! Can you tell we haven't been here before?!" she asked if it was a bday for "my last name" party? We said yes. we go inside and our pregnant friend is standing there. She said she'd been there about 4-5 minutes and no one has greeted her. Long story short, the reservation was under someone else and not ours. Still no idea how the lady outside knew our name but no worker inside did. We had to ask for silverware, we had to ask for our drinks after we ordered them, we had to ask for plates. We were there from 8-10 and there was only 4 tables in the place. Food was mediocre at best. The bills came, i asked a question. I had a calzone, on the menu it said that feta cheese cost extra. ALSO THEY PUT BLUE CHEESE IN MY CALZONE. NOT FETA. I was charged $3.00 for feta, although that is not the price on the menu. As well as spinach and Italian sausage. being charged more than double what the menu said. I asked if this was correct did she accidentally charge me extra for it. Her response was "i don't know that's how it rings in, I guess i can ask the owner." She came back with the credit card slips but took all but one itemized receipt. She never once answered my question about the pricing. I asked for an itemized receipt twice and still never got it, so i am thinking they added gratuity and didn't want us to see?! One of the girls, the girl who had been to this place before- her card was charged $10 more than it was suppose to. We saw the owner and asked her over to fix her credit card. My friend said i was over charged, and Lisa, the female owner said "don't start that". I wish there was a camera to look at ALL of our shocked faces we could not believe her attitude. We weren't rowdy, we weren't rude, we didn't ask for anything other than our silverware. My friend said excuse me, what?! Lisa than went to say that WE switched the receipts - which doesn't make sense, why would my friend want to pay more?! The owner said she watched the server run the cards and saw there were two receipts and she didn't know what we were trying to pull. She came over very argumentative and i honestly have no idea why. The server came over and said yeah there were two that paid cash. So server and the owner went to void her credit card, which they didn't give her the void receipt. She had to ask for it, and they ran her card for the correct amount. Then the owner proceeded to tell us no to worry about the fettuccine because she comped it. This is when i had to speak up and said "yes, the server has cash. She didn't bring the girl her change back, so i just want to make sure you know you didn't comp anything. Everything was paid for! On the way out i stopped the owner and asked what that was about. She said i don't know what you guys are trying to pull. (Again i wish i had a camera to look at my face) i said I'm not sure why you would think we were trying to pull anything. She said your friend was snippy. I told her that we couldn't find the server, my friend who has been here before knew you were the owner, so she asked you over to take care of her credit card. The owner said well I'll always stick up for my server. We never once complained about the service. The service was horrible, and the ending just made it worse. Really put a damper on my sisters birthday dinner. NEVER ONCE APOLOGIZED for her attitude towards us or the bad server. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. This is for The Garden. This is the restaurant inside Capones. Capones is good but.... Everything about this place was spectacular. Definitely a gem in New Berlin. Reservations are needed. We tried seven items and all were spot-on. The best, in my opinion, was the P.E.I. Scallops with a smoked pancetta crema. If you have not been there, go! Do not hesitate. Also, the beer selection is noteworthy! The wait staff was friendly, knowledgeable and very courteous. Prices are geared towards fine dining, but you get what you pay for and we will gladly do it again. Already have our next reservation. read more

I just realized we have been coming here for the best pizza around for three years and I hadn't left a review! They have good Italian food too but we drive from Springfield for the Pizza Guy's Special. Delicious sauce, right amount of cheese, thin crust, great toppings. Food was decent, service was terrible. We had to make reservations and it still took 2hrs to get our food. Half of that was waiting on appetizers and drinks. In 2hrs we were able to get 2 rounds of drinks and had to ask, no asking how we were doing or any kind of check up. The $30 bottle of wine we bought was $8 at a local liquor store. We ended up receiving our food and immediately took it to go because we had a 1 1/2yr old that was so tired and they couldn't get his chicken fingers out in 2hrs. I finally ordered a meatball calzone tonight, after over a year because of bad service before, and nothing changed. The employees are rude and unsupervised and when tried to politely point out last time that my calzone was undercooked, was told there was really no one I could take my complaint too and same thing this time. The employees also act like your unwelcome and that it's an inconvenience to take your order. Tired of trying to help support our small town restaurant, will not go back. 1 star because it is food, but definitely not worth the price. read more

The Garden is in the same building and that's where we had dinner. It was FANTASTIC! Great food and service. There were 4 of us and we started with wine and appetizers. Wine was good, the Brie plate was delish! Came with apple slices and some kind of yummy bread. We also had the fries mozzarella and lamb shanks, all very good. Next I ordered scallops and they came with sweet potatoes and wow my meal was so so good! Hubby had some kind of homemade pasta dish that he loved, friends had the filet which was cooked perfectly and served over mashed potatoes with an awesome sauce and her hubby ordered the pizza. This place is truly a diamond in the rough. Attached to gas station/convenience store and located in such a small town, it'd be easy to pass over but it is well worth the stop! The owners and servers are amazing. The front restaurant atmosphere is nice but their back room/bar and patio is by far the best (can't say if that back room is always open or just for private parties but its worth it to ask). First off we ate at the bar in the tapas lounge area, not in the main hall. This place has the potential to be really good. I ate with two other guys and they ordered the pork belly, stuffed quail, and scallops. I ordered the duck breast and oxtail pasta dish. The food was pretty good. But the timing was poor and the duck wasn't even warm. They were obviously under staffed, but that doesn't make it right. The bartender took forever on beer orders and was understaffed also. We've tried a variety of entree's & all were excellent. Wait staff has been friendly & attentive even when it is obvious they're really busy. Sometimes the food is slow to come out but it's always worth waiting for! For those of you who have had previous negative experiences at Capone's, try them again. read more

On a Sunday night, the thing to order must be pizza because all the other tables, filled after our arrival, got their pizza long before we were served. They tell you up front that the steak takes 30 minutes - sounds reasonable. But a 20% gratuity added to a table of 4 adults and 2 children under the age of 4 - unreasonable.
