They took out the soda and water machines. Granted few people actually carried enough money on them openly for a ride AND a drink because of safety reasons. And getting one in the dark probably would not be advisable. But for the few who were willing to risk it, I'm sure this was a nice touch. My advice would be to carry your own drink around. Perhaps more useful was the benches/beds under the somewhat functional roof. Now there is inexplicably just only one of the 'brand new' shelters. Everybody else is apparently expected to stand or sit/lay on the ground irrespective of temperature and/or weather conditions until your transit connection arrives. I did a double take, amazed that human beings are treated like this. Even for them, this is a shocking new low. Yes it's really cut down on the prior rampant vagrancy. But they've also cut down on riders. You now have to really want and need to use the public transit system in order to endure this treatment. It wasn't at all pleasant for one trip and I can't imagine it encouraging casual riders to permanently move to public transit. Whoever who authorized this needs to be fired.

This transit center is a disaster, the worst in the city for sure. It is only easily accessible by…read morecar. Which is an obvious and complete failure because, you know, it is a BUS transfer center. Lets expand on this issue some more. 1.If you want to access the transit center from south of 183 say Anderson Lane as a pedestrian you have to contend with panhandlers, highway speed turning cars turning on red legally. (Having crossed several times there it feels like you are taking your life into your own hands, in a way that is hard to describe, but I recommend to anyone who may think this review is an exaggeration.) 2. Lets assume for a moment you live in the closest apartment complex, santa maria village, which touts the transit center as a feature, the transfer center isn't safely accessible no traffic controller, surrounding car oriented design. So for those keeping score... the only accessible side of this transit center is the West side of Lamar assuming you are already North of 183, unfortunately the nearest legal crosswalk is located at Lamar and Thurmond half a mile away from the station. So if you wanted to legally cross the street and lived at the nearest apartment complex, you would be walking a little over a mile, to get to the crosswalk and return to the transit center. (Not bad for someone in good shape and active, but not quick, not intuitive, and not possible for anyone with a mobility impairment, seniors, etc.) But, lets say for arguments sake and out of optimism that you do have a car, it would be reasonable to expect that you'd want it to be semi monitored. There are 0 cameras here as far as I can tell! It feels fairly sketchy, but that being said I have left my 14 year old car and it has been unscathed. Also, for arguments sake. Let's explore biking as an option, there is no secure place to lock up a bicycle if the racks on the bus are full. Additionally, the buses stack (long line of buses one behind the other), making it difficult to determine where the bus you nee is located. (pro tip- the routes are divided by lanes, but within a lane where a given route will be located will not be in the same spot in a given lane) No public restrooms. ***This is relatively central hub, that needs to exist with a coordinated facelift from Capital Metro, City of Austin, and TxDot. It is a shame that it was even allowed to be built without some of the infrastructure issues addressed in advance of the Transit Center and it is abysmal failure that the surrounding infrastructure is so bad 30 FREAKING YEARS later!!***

I assume with all of the scooter competition that they are not investing in keeping up the bikes. In San Antonio they are going electric which is great. We also had to call the help center when we tried to dock the bikes and could not. The only plus is that the bikes can be taken on the bike /hike path while the scooters are prohibited.

Both bikes were fine, but the best part was the customer service from B-Cycle, now called Metrobike. Their staffers were so friendly and helpful-they legit showed interest in me as a customer and desire for me to be happy! Yay! Something that's sorely lacking right now. Plus, they had THE CLOSEST docking station to ACL (by a lot), at the corner of Sterzing and Barton Springs Road. Far closer than the mandatory scooter parking (geofencing prohibits you getting any closer-you have to take them to Toomey). I made that mistake Day 1 ACL. I will for sure use these bikes again. Happy to have them around central Austin. *The payment options are clearly stated on the app and the website. Not sure what others are bellyaching about. Each amount on the app has a drop-down with a VERY clear description of what you're buying. Jeez.

I do miss having the option of smart cars because of the price and the parking ease. It would be better if they kept both. As someone who does not own a car this has been a godsend and allowed me to have a much more convenient lifestyle without the annoyances and expenses of car ownership. I used to use Zipcar and now I haven't touched one in years mainly because I found the set schedule and drop off points too restrictive. I generally only drive on weekends and rarely leave the city so it works out great for me. It's a really convenient option and while my friends circle around downtown looking for parking I have the option of dropping off at a car2go spot. Now the bad: TECH issues!! Every once in a while I can't end a rental for whatever reason and end up having to call customer service and wait on hold and it's a pain in the ass. Customer service in general is meh. While the agents are helpful, the company doesn't really show much appreciation for their customers. I mean I've been using the service for four years and I can't think of a single perk I've earned from that. Sure they had a little customer appreciation lounge set up for SX but no one was even checking if you were a member. They really need to set up some frequent driver perks and bonus time or something. After I had a bunch of tech issues I sent a lot of emails and stopped using the service for a while. Maybe if they showed customers more appreciation that wouldn't happen. It's gotten more expensive and with the new packages the day rate actually went up to the point of being prohibitively expensive. Back when they had the smart cars there were often day specials for $50 and now we're close to $100 with taxes and there are no more weekend day specials! That's just absurd. While I did the day rental a few times with the smart cars to go to Ikea, now it is completely out of the question and I just go to Enterprise and get a weekend rental.

I provided short notice for a pick up request at the airport for 7 people flying in on diff flights, airlines, and times on the same day. To make it even more of a challenge it was the Holidays and they were flying in from heavy storm impacted areas. I was super stressed doing the work of 4 people; including the role of airport driver and running behind in finishing the final touches on my home for my guests arrival. When I reached the point of defeat, I found Ubiquitous Driver through YELP of-course...GOOOOOO YELP Community for another WIN based your reviews! Josh quickly got everything set up and I was able to focus on finishing my home and do it stress free! Because the experience was so smooth with the airport pick ups, I used Josh for the returns. I can't emphasize the care he and his team took with each family member. Josh is amazing and his company Ubiquitous is a life safer....Just thinking about how he took aaaaaallllll that stress away! If you need a professional driver who will take your schedule and circumstances and make it their top priority; reach out to Ubiquitous Driver!

Highly recommend Josh and Ubiquitous Driver…read more We are in Austin for a month and my boyfriends' bday was coming up. I had planned a full day of activities (all COVID compliant, wearing masks, distancing, etc) and needed someone to drive us from place to place as we don't have a car here. Google searches didn't turn up many options other than atxprivatecar services which quoted me $600 for the day- as much as I love my boyfriend and wanted him to have a very special bday, $600 is a lot of money to spend on someone driving us around. The only reason we needed this service is because some locations were in Fredericksburg (wineries) and a 75 minute drive out of Austin with limited Uber/lyfts that far out. I turned to Yelp and am SO happy I did bc that is where I found Josh! I sent a message to three businesses' and Josh was the first to reply at an unbeatable price point (actually unbeatable- no one else could match). He was super responsive, communicative and friendly. Day of- he was five minutes early to our pickup location, was very considerate and prepared (hand sanitizer, asked us what music we want in advance, the like) and a very safe driver. His car is very clean and so comfortable. He was also super flexible when we ran a little late and needed an extra hour added. Josh is also extremely socially aware- during our day long excursion, he was really great at joining the convo whether it be to offer some good food recommendations for us, or informing us on what animals we would see during the drive (yes we're all city folk and didn't know the difference between sheep's/goats) but never intruding or talking our ear off (the opposite actually!). I really appreciated that he was so helpful, friendly and informative, but never annoying, too chatty or intrusive. It was the perfect mix and it's a real life skill that many do not possess - Josh does. We all noted that to each other after on just how great he was ! I definitely recommend Ubiquitous Driver and I know if I ever need someone again in Austin, Josh will be the first person we call!!
