Without being political at all, I have to call this place a RINO - Resort In Name Only. Resort in no way describes the place. The rooms are outside entrance - think old, cheap motel. We were put on the second floor in what appears to be the original building. There is no elevator, so seniors or those with much luggage, beware. We lugged our bags up the rusty steel and cracked concrete stairs, to our room, only to find that my key card did not work. Luckily, my wife's did. The room was very dimly lit, with one low wattage ceiling fixture and two table lamps. The bulbs must be 40 watt incandescents - they emit yellow light, and are very warm to the touch, so not LEDs. Our air conditioner rattled, but not as loudly as the room's next door. There is no room thermostat, just a rotary dial on the wall floor unit. The TV is is a 32" DYNEX brand with a dull screen. The parking lot is half no-parking, not sure why. For 16 rooms on the two floors next to and facing the highway, there are five parking spaces. The furniture in the lobby is two decrepit leather loveseats. The pool and gym are tiny. The gym is in a cramped standalone building. There are apparently some newer rooms, but I wouldn't take a chance on getting a room last updated in the 1970s. Needless to say, I would not return and hope that no one else falls for the stellar Travelocity rating. Oh, remember to check out at the front desk to retrieve the $50 'resort fee' if you didn't use it in the gift shop or restaurant. The beds were OK, but otherwise what a dump. read more

This place was ABSOLUTELY AMAZINGLY AWESOME!! We were in teepee 606 for two nights and we both commented it was more 'luxurious' than many Marriotts and other high end hotels we've stayed in over the years. Admittedly it is glamping, not camping, but for my very first time sleeping outdoors, it was heavenly. Beautifully appointed with everything you could possibly need for your stay. I could totally live here forever!! The 'campground' itself it laid out so that each kind of venue has its own fire pit and lovely Adirondack chairs to chat with your neighbors and gaze at the night sky. They even have s'more kits for $5. Sweet. The nicest part for me was the separate private bathroom accessible with a hotel room key. The wood keeps you warm in the evening when you have to get up at 4:00 am! Fully ADA which is great. I had to chuckle at the black facecloth, the second I've seen on our 7 day journey through Utah. It's for makeup! What a great idea. The Beverly Hills Hilton should take note!! Had the soup and salad at the restaurant..nothing too fantastic there, but the accommodations more than made up for it. A word to the wise. Glamping is just like camping. Remember there are folks who have been hiking all day. Quiet time starts at 10 pm...be respectful. Same with early mornings. Don't let your kids run around everyone else's teepee to give them their daily exercise; it's not your backyard. Just off 24 so no crazy long ride to get into Capitol Reef. Had a wonderful 4 nights staying at the Capitol Reef Resort with my wife and family. We stayed in a two bedroom cabin, with 1 1/2 baths, a small kitchenette, a gas BBQ and a large deck with a table and 4 Adirondack chairs overlooking the beautiful red rocks in this area. Campfires each evening and a nice soak in the hot tub. Well equipped cabin with a basic kitchenette that allowed us to prepare breakfast and dinner and pack lunches for hikes in the park. Spent a night at this place before heading to Capitol Reef National Park. Convenient location, well maintained rooms and most of all excellent restaurant. The food was well prepared and the service was exemplary. Ordered the fish tacos, poor pie chicken and the flan. Shaun at the restaurant was simply awesome. We came back after a long tiring day at the park, famished. He let us in 10 mins before the opening time and got our food real quick. Friendly and amazing service. They have a good collection of beer and wine. Wine by the bottle is a bit overpriced but you are left with not much of an option in the area. Winter pricing of $69 included breakfast and was a great deal. read more

We stayed here one night as part of our pit stop on the way to the Arches.  Capitol Reef Resort worked out perfectly.  We got a room on the 2nd floor with two full size beds and a window with a bit of view of the Capitol Reef.  It was very convenient to have a microwave and fridge in our room as we had leftovers from lunch at a cafe nearby.  After a 4 hour hike with the on site llamas the shower was strong and perfect.  Early evening we took a walk to the shared fireplace and checked out the teepees and wagons area as well.  The teepees and wagons are only available for stays during the summer but it's such a wonderful idea. I have been looking forward to writing this review ever since we left the resort a few days ago. We had THE absolute best time at this hotel and literally kept adding nights until we couldn't anymore because they were sold out. We went to Utah to go to some of the parks, and ended up getting stuck at the hotel half the time because it was so ridiculously gorgeous. The Milky Way was completely visible and stunning right outside of our room, as were the huge red canyons during the day! Torrey is an awesome little town and we weren't expecting there to be a lot of places nearby to eat, but there were tons of options within a few miles and everything we tried was delicious. Capitol Reef itself couldn't be much closer, it's really like a 2 minute drive from the hotel into the beginning of the park, so it was super easy to hop back to the hotel quickly. Our housekeeping lady was so sweet and helpful and became our friend! Didn't get her name but she cleaned the area around room 408. When we originally saw the pictures of this resort we were kind of put off by the fact that the doors opened right outside instead of to a hallway like a traditional hotel, but that was actually one of my favorite things about it because we didn't have to do anything but open the door to see the incredible views. Plus it was much more covid friendly without the extra communal spaces. I can't recommend this place highly enough!! read more

This place is ok but not as nice as the photos make it seem. I should know this - I'm a seasoned traveler. But I'm a sucker for a great vista. What can I say. You're paying for the view here, folks - and not much else. We stayed in a room, the tipi and the covered wagon. The covered wagons sleep 6. The tipi is just a king bed. If you're a light sleeper, don't sleep in the tipi. The restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner. We didn't get dinner but the breakfast was fine. The only thing is it was just a bit crowded. Otherwise, we will probably try a different place to stay next time but I'm still glad we went. read more

This is a great, unique resort with a lot of creature comforts, including very comfortable mattresses (our group of four decided) and bedding. The large resort located near the edge of a beautiful canyon and Capitol Reef Rim, offers an array of sleeping accommodations such as tepees, Conestoga wagons, cabins with porches, and regular motel rooms. All are beautifully decorated with tasteful Western flair. The views are outstanding. Conestoga wagons and tepees offer private nearby baths accessed by a room key. Clean white towels are replaced daily and the bathrooms are very clean, offering a Keurig with coffee and tea, and essential toiletries. The main Lodge building offers a restaurant that serves a decent breakfast buffet for about $10 (August 2018) and other items throughout the day. The resort is located a few minutes away from Capitol Reef National Park, which is well worth the visit. Guests are courteous and often include families with children and travelers from Europe and Asia. The community campfires are an opportunity to meet people from other parts of our interesting world. I have to mention the great staff at this resort who are non-intrusive and who let guests be guests, but who are instantly available when called upon to fulfill your needs and wants. read more

I've been meaning to write a review of our stay here back in Jan 2021. My wife and I dropped off our daughter at CSU, Ft. Collins in mid January and were driving through Capitol Reef on our way home on a very cold night. We found numerous vacancies here with king-size beds and suites and grabbed a room for one night. We prefer rooms that have a door between the bedroom and living room, since I'm a night owl (watching TV) and my wife goes to bed early. We arrived at dusk and were met with a friendly staff who informed us of the fire pit and s'mores later in the evening, if we desired them. We dropped off our things and I raced to see some of the nearby Capitol Reef sights while my wife chilled back in the room. I got back in time to see the sun setting on the beautiful mountains at the firepit and we went back out again later to see the Milky Way galaxy. It was incredible. We ended up going to the restaurant for dinner and thought it was great, with no complaints. The next day we were bummed to have to leave, but we are keeping this place in our list of awesome places to stay. read more

I was really excited to stay here in the wagon but i was super disappointed the moment I checked in. Front desk didn't wear mask. I was informed at check in that my jeep tour needs to be rescheduled. I told her that i have only 1 day to stay. She asked me to call the jeep tour myself for refund. Why on earth do i have to do that when i paid it along with the room? Should they do it for me? The Wagon. Looked great outside. But inside there's nothing except 5 beds, 1 heater, 1 AC, 1 lamp, and ice bin. The heater couldn't keep up with outside weather, 52 degree. The restaurant. No one wore masks, again. The food was disgusting. The steak was raw though we requested. The broccoli were so well done that it fell apart. That was my review for the first hour here and I don't think it's worth $1200 i paid for 2 nights. It came with jeeps and horse ride. First and last time for me. read more

Such an amazing experience, we stayed in the wagons and all other options looked just as amazing. They think of everything here, it was great hospitality. A few resturaunts and small stores nearby which is nice. We did the horseback riding which was amazing and the instructors were so sweet. Five stars for CJ at the front desk!! We came in and accidentally booked our hotel for the wrong month. He was so kind and helped us work with Hoteltonight to get the correct date. I really enjoyed staying here on our road trip. I thought it was affordable, and pleasant. There was a recent remodel and the beds and mattresses during our stay were comfortable and in very good condition. The rooms have a fridge, and fancy granite sinks. The walls were maybe a bit thin, and the porch lacked a screen, we ended up with a few flies in our room, which we battled, and never got rid of fully, this was probably at least partially our fault. As for the reviewer who waited for a drink for 20 minutes. We did not see any booze present in the small restaurant. We went to the gas stations near by and all they have in town is 4% booze, besides those with full liquor licenses. Like Capital Reef Inn and Cafe restaurant. This is Utah and it has antiquated liquor laws, so plan accordingly, bring enough, or go to a proper package store, like the one in the town to the west of Torrey. read more

Resort? I don't think so. But it's a nice hotel. The main buildings are old school style drive up and park at your door type deals. Yes, the interiors are nice and the mattresses comfy. We needed a room for one night before the Nat park and the wife booked it on some third party site. In our opinion this is closer to a $100 room but paid close to $200. Now if your the kind of traveler that likes to stay in some of the cabin rooms or wagon train rooms and price is not a consideration than you may feel this is a very nice full blown resort. We were happy customers and I recommend this hotel which very well may be the nicest one in Torrey! read more

We have booked a double queen room in this "resort" earlier this year. Looking at the pictures online it looked like a luxury resort. It was priced at $330/night and made a two night reservation. When we arrived at this place to our horror we realized it's nothing more roadside motel. We checked online to verify if we are in the right place and realized that the room we book well in advance was now $209/night. We asked the front desk to honor the lower rate. They said they can't do it. No manager on site and cancellation policy was 48 hours so we couldn't cancel without losing our deposit of $330. We got frustrated with management not willing to work with us. All they care about is money and deceive people with beautiful pictures that look NOTHING like reality!! We felt truly "ripped off" so decided to forfeit our deposit and went to another hotel less then half the price and much nicer rooms and friendlier staff. Do not fall for the amazing pictures!! Also don't pay the high rates. The hotel is empty! read more

Stunning view and have interesting accommodation types. But... the website might look great, but if you are staying in the hotel rooms. It is just old motel rooms. Nothing fancy. Guest service was so so. Very "what's your question" with a why are you bothering me tone. All in all. It is like a middle of the road "resort". BUTTTTTTT Internet: wow. Really bad. My cell phone on the locations poor network is still a little faster. I had a couple work things to take care of so i can get back to vacationing. But what normal look an hr in total to do. I'm still kicking myself over this one. WHY didn't I book a tee-pee or a covered wagon for the night!? I don't think I realized these were options when booking, or maybe they had been already full by the time I was making reservations. Either way, this is a DEFINITE must-do if you're coming here. There are cabins, teepees, and covered wagons to stay in and I would say go for it! We stayed here for a night in April, as we were passing through and hiking Capitol Reef National Park! There's really not much around here, but this hotel is surprisingly nice! It had been a while since making reservations, and when you have 5-6 hotels planned during your vacation, things start to blend together. Either way, I was a bit hesitant when we pulled up to a motel-looking unassuming building in the middle of Torrey (I mean, in the middle of nowhere*). Once we opened our door, I was reminded why we booked this hotel. The room was clean, spacious, and perfectly wonderful for 2 weary and tired travelers. It was about 4pm, and the sun was still up for another hour when we checked in. We opted to throw on our bathing suits and check out the hot tub while we watch the sun go down over the beautiful red rocks. The pool has glass window fencing, which only allows for amazing views, but keeps the wind away - we were particularly grateful for this as it was about 55 degrees out! The hot tub was probably big enough for 15 people to fit in comfortably, luckily for us - there was only 2 other people in there that evening!! The staff is super friendly and helpful! Breakfast is available here at their restaurant, for a cost. It's a buffet, and REALLY not much to write home about (especially for the price), but I literally don't think there was another option! Again, I WISH we stayed in the cabins or teepee for the night! It looks like the cabins even had Adirondack chairs with blankets for watching the sun rise. Despite not having my own Adirondack chair, we did manage to watch the sunrise, which was incredible (and cold, so yes, I wish we had a blanket!!) Don't even bother looking anywhere else if you're in Torrey, stay here! ....and spring for the teepee room! read more

Friendly and helpful service, beautiful view. Definitely worth the small price difference for an upgraded room with a patio and view of the rock formations, great sunrise and sunset views. The fully functioning (rare at small resorts) hot tub is a godsend after a day of hiking. Pioneer Kitchen restaurant is good and reasonably priced for a "resort" (it's not really a resort). Only downside is that the rooms are kinda sad; outdated, rips on chairs, furniture very scratched up, the door had to be pulled hard to actually latch. These things didn't matter to me because the room was clean, but it matters to some people. Finally, housekeeping was incredible. In an age where hotels have drastically cut back on this service, we didn't expect it for a two night stay. In the morning, before we left for our hikes, I had put all my clothes in neat piles on the bed (not expecting housekeeping). We returned in the evening to find the bed made up and every pile of clothing put back exactly as they were (down to the one Tshirt I had laying open to dry put back in it's exact place). Incredible! I really dont know exactly what to say about this hotel. I guess it could best be summed up with the heading "Not As Advertised." Looking at the photos of this place on line I was expecting a kind of "resort with glamping opportunities." Something like what you'd find in Cali near Joshua Tree, or Terlingua TX or something like that. You know, fancy, with a kind of boho-vibe to it. Well, this was not that. Definitely a different vibe going on here (see my pic), and not modern at all. Our first room was, I hate to say it, but "dingy" really does describe it best. That, and it shared the same room freshener as the front office, an overpowering aroma that smelled just like a gas station gift shop. The upside was the people at the front desk who were very nice and worked with us to solve the problems we had, including the problems with our second room where the air conditioner just could not handle a space that size. Too be fair, there was a major heat wave going on at the time. Perhaps during normal temps the ac does just fine. In any case the second room was one of the cabins, and it was much nicer and newer than the regular rooms, much closer to being worth what we were paying to stay in it. Still, the whole atmosphere was creepy for reasons... (again see pic) and we wound up cutting our stay short by 2 days. Again the staff were very kind, and they made this review a 3 star instead of a 1 star. read more

The view is incredible. The outdoor pool is relaxing, even with the many kids running around. The Pioneer Kitchen Restaurant is nice and relaxing. The in garlic mushrooms starter was delicious. Ordered the burger and fries. It was very large and very good. I possibly over rated after too many Capt'n & Diet Coke's at the pool, but this place will go into our rotation for a long weekend. read more

We were quite underwhelmed by our stay to be honest. We arrived around 12:30pm already because we were going on the lama and horse trek. We told the front desk that we were staying with them that night as well. I didn't expect them to check us in that early. But then another couple showed up and they asked if they could already check in. The staff did. I mean... Why not offer us a room then too? They were also having power outages the entire morning, up until the very moment we were picked up for our excursions. Weird.. When we got back from the trip, we checked in. I put in a request for a quiet room in the top floor. We got a room on the ground floor in the middle of the building.. I know requests aren't guaranteed, but you as a hotel do show a lack of care if you don't try to accommodate easy things like this. I asked the front desk girl to change but she said we couldn't. Also, upon checkin I gave her a different credit card and specifically said that I wanted the room charged on that one, not the one originally put on file. She said it was taken care of. But the next morning upon check-out, guess what, she lied. I asked for the folio and saw the old card as the one charged still. So her colleague had to rectify it. The room itself was weirdly put together. There was a huge entertainment closet with a smallish TV in the middle, fridge on one side, hangers on the other. The thing took up most of the space in the sleeping area. Then in the sink area, half of the counter space is taken up by a pod-polluting Keurig machine. Why did you not put this thing in the humongous closet? They provide you with a huge amount of towels, yet barely any hooks or racks to hang them on. Handy. Oh and there was an alarm clock, which for no apparent reason went off at 6am. Great. The walls are so paper thin that I could hear and understand the neighbors in every bordering room; also slamming cupboards and doors. No sleeping in here. To top it all off, they charge you $10 per person for a breakfast buffet the size and quality that you get for free at a Days Inn. Their restaurant is not open for lunch, only dinner, and they do not have a liquor license. The "resort" has an overload of rooms, wagons, cabins, teepees, but the pool area can barely fit 15 people comfortably. So in conclusion, for the price we paid, we felt that it was not worth it. read more

Higher end options in the tiny town of Torrey are hard to come by. Capital Reef Resort is situated just outside of the main business district and is the closest hotel to the Capital Reef Park. The hotel grounds are well kept and they have a stunning view of the red rock cliffs. Horse back riding and Lama tours are available onsite. They have several fire pits perfect for roasting marshmallows and Star Gazing in a truly epic view. The view and hotel grounds get 5 stars. The rooms however get 3. The rooms are somewhat dated and in a motel style; I could live with that. But we booked a two bedroom room. The beds were hard as a rock and only with barely enough room for two adults to squeeze in uncomfortably. We ended up switching to Wagon. The beds were a little bigger in the wagon, but the small portable air conditioner did not keep up until the sun went down. Major downside is that the bathroom for the wagon is in a separate building; however the bathroom is not communal (you are assigned a bathroom based upon your wagon or teepee). The breakfast buffet was cheap, in cost as well as quality of food. But as other dining options are limited we still are there everyday. All and all this is probably the best in town. read more

WOW!! What a great place to stay. I found Capitol Reef Resort on one of the travel sites, but decided to book straight though the resort, because it was cheaper. I've never been through this part of Utah, and not knowing much about Torrey, I really relied on star ratings and pics. We stayed in one of the cabins, which are single-wide, customized modulars. (adorable, by the way)... It was AMAZING! Our room was super clean and inviting, roomy, full cable (including premium movie channels), a nice big shower with 2 shower heads, a Keurig, 2 queen beds with tons a great pillows, and amazingly fast WiFi. The cabin even had a nice size porch; just an amazing room. AMAZING views, as the cabins face the red rocks and cliffs of Capitol Reef. There was even Adirondack chairs on the porch to sit out on and take it all in. JUST AMAZING. I know I said that a lot, but really... Amazing. Since Torrey is such a small town, and the resort conveniently had a restaurant, we just ate dinner there. The wait staff was great. Everyone was so friendly, and helpful. The restaurant too, also nice and clean. The food was tasty, and all pretty much home made. Both the room and dinner were so affordable. I HIGHLY recommend staying at Capitol Reef Resort. With such reasonable prices, a selection of room styles, a pool, a hot tub that's available year round, and fire pits to gather family and friends, this place is a must stay when visiting Capitol Reef. Don't rent the cabins - they are too small and not adequately furnished. The pictures on the website for the 2 bedroom cabin are deceiving. The views are nice from the cabin, but the kitchen was too small to really cook anything. If you are not interested in cooking and just want a cup of coffee in a very small cup, then this is the place for you! Their HVAC system is way too complicated. We needed to call the front desk 3 times to have someone adjust the temperature for us. Bedrooms are small and the "half baths" are the size of an airplane bathroom. read more

Great views and great location. I loved how close this hotel was to capitol reef. My boyfriend and I decided to stay there instead of camping and were super happy with our decision. The location right outside of the park made it super easy to go on a hike or two and then drive back to the hotel for a few to sit in air conditioning and grab a snack. After a long day of hiking, it was awesome to jump in the hot tub and relax for a bit. Next time we're there we would like to try out staying in a wagon or teepee, but we loved our room with a view of the mountains. read more

First to note - the location is top notch. Not only proximity to the park, but the beautiful canyons seen when you open the back deck space. I'd go back for this alone. The price was very fair for a single king room. The customer service was awesome! The amenities available were awesome also - none of which we personally experienced. Very friendly folks. They were a huge help before and after our stay. It's a long story, but they were SUPER cool about a favor I asked of them. Restaurant folks were friendly, it was clean and the food was totally decent. The rooms were VERY clean and comfortable. Staff gave us the specific cabin we asked for and it was perfect. The views are STUNNING. We were a little leery that they were being oversold with some stock images of pretty scenery, but the website views are the exact views from the rooms. This looked so fun online and was reasonably clean (with the exception of the hot tub which had brown scum on the sides and some areas of the room that were neglected (under/in front of mini fridge). I was unimpressed with the guy who checked me in, when I asked if my room was a good one (jokingly), he said it was "okay" and was exasperated when I asked to upgrade (even though I was paying to do so). I also mentioned I was a bit sick from the altitude and wasn't offered so much as a bottle of water while checking in. The room smelled a bit funny as well and there was a ridiculously huge armoire in it. Also, my room had a great view of the rocks but no screen on the slider to the balcony which resulted in having to have it closed to avoid dealing with flies :(. It wasn't terrible but I probably wouldn't stay here again. Covid note - I didn't see any staff wearing masks or sanitizing their hands in between handling customers' credit cards and licenses during check in or check out. Pictures are a little misleading and it's not quite as nice as it looks. The main building rooms are old and tired. I mean they're adequate but it's dated. The teepee and wagon rooms looked cool, but again, not as nice as it looks. Bathrooms are outside for those. Pool was a letdown. It's fine for what it is but pictures misrepresent a little. read more

Wow this place was amazing. We stayed in a wagon. Quite spacious, can sleep 6. The restaurant was convenient and reasonably priced. Swimming in the pool was awesome after a hot day. The only improvement I would recommend is the employees should turn on the air conditioning in the wagons well before the guests arrive. When I entered my wagon it was beautiful but over 100 degrees inside. The small portable air conditioner could barely cool off the place. It took hours to cool off, mainly because night arrived. read more

We loved this place!! I highly recommend it. We stayed in a covered wagon. How cool is that? It was comfortable and clean and just amazing! There is a fire pit in your "wagon train" and you have your own individual bathroom and shower just steps away. Everything is new and modern and beautifully decorated. The pool is super nice and there is a huge hot tub...perfect after a day of hiking. AND the views are gorgeous. I loved sitting at the fire pit in the morning and reading my book, drinking a cup of coffee. It was the highlight of our trip. I know my kids will never forget this experience! Thanks Capitol Reef Resort! PS...one recommendation to the resort it got a little chilly in the wagon at night...I know there is a heater but we would have rather just snuggled up in a duvet or thicker blanket..just a suggestion!) read more
