The Capitol Park Museum, located in downtown Baton Rouge, is a hidden gem brimming with Louisiana State History. At the time of our visit, adult admission was a reasonable $7 per person. There are two floors: the lower floor gallery focuses on Louisiana state history and the top floor focuses on state culture. The exhibits are child friendly but there is a lot of information available to read for those who are so inclined. We spent two hours there and could have spent longer if we had delved deeper into some of the exhibits. If you are wanting to learn about Louisiana or share the history and culture with visiting friends or family, this is your spot.

How did I not know about this state run museum before? I was looking at things to do in Baton Rouge and this came up. Other places nearby seemed more popular, like everyone goes to the more popular places. Reasonable admission prices. I came on the last day of the rotating display that was the DC Mardi Gras. Amazing. Just so much to look at! Come! Take a look around! You won't regret it.

I love history. I must visit this museum. I was looking for a parking spot. I parked in the street. I had to insert coins. I hadn't seen such a parking meter. I couldn't pay by my smartphone and credit card! This meter was some vintage one. I would like to put the meter to the museum. LOL. I really enjoyed everything! I saw exhibitions of Huey Long, Louis Armstrong, and other people in Louisiana. I found some old Japanese (phonograph) record of Louis Armstong. That was amazing. I went upstairs. I really learned about the history and geography of Louisiana. Louisiana has a lot of fo fun such as Jazz, Mardigrass, Cajun food, etc.. Please visit this museum and learn about the culture!

Fun displays right in the heart of Baton Rouge!

Small but mighty!!! This little museum pack so much history, culture, and fun tid-bits into a shockingly small space! It has been laid out so well! The staff has always been friendly and informative. I have made this visit almost every time I pass through Baton Rouge (5+ this year) and always find something new!

Great museum to visit and learn about Louisiana. The bottom floor has a huge shrimp boat on display and is mostly about the Mississippi River. Lots of cool pictures. They also have farming machines on display. The top floor is my favorite. The break it up into cities and it shows the different festivals. They have displays for each one. And in one part for New Orleans you get on a float and a screen makes it seem like you are throwing beads down to people. It's really fun!

I seriously can't believe I have never been to this museum! It seem very under publicized. Though there wasn't a huge amount of time to visit, I learned that it is a place I need to visit again sooner than later. Wow, so much about the past and the present of Louisiana. Learn about early Louisiana and about the current state of Louisiana. It was a such a rush that all was a bit of a blur, but what did stick out was the 3rd floor with a portion dedicated to Mardi Gras and all the amazing elements of it from the costumes to the floats. That was my favorite part. Support your local museums, especially the ones dedicated to what makes your state and/or city such a wonderful place. The museum is huge and the exhibits are plentiful I need to come back here with my family and visit for a bit longer than a couple of hours. It's located walking distance from the State Capitol, so be sure to pay this museum a visit. It will definitely be worth it for you and your family. It definitely adds to the growing culture of Baton Rouge and Louisiana at large. #definitelykidfriendly

I just volunteered as a chauffeur for my daughter's school field trip yesterday. I wish I have heard more about this museum before yesterday, especially after moving from the west coast nearly nine years ago. The museum was very interesting and informative. Answers to questions that I have always wanted to know, but didn't know who to ask or sometimes even know how to ask is explained at this extremely informative museum about Louisiana. I highly recommend this museum if you are from out of state and would like to get up to speed on Louisiana's culture, industries, history and entertainment. I look forward to returning very soon!

This is 2 floors full of Louisiana history. We went on a weekend and parking was easy. I was told parking can be challenging on a weekday but there is metered parking and parking garages nearby. The building is just south of the Capitol building across the gardens. You enter through the first floor lobby. The cost was $5.74/person for senior admission. The first floor has a really fascinating history of the entire state and challenges that it has overcome to get to the present day. The displays are very well done and fascinating. The other floor (third floor) is a cross section of the different areas of the state and what they boast. We found that the TABASCO factory was in Louisiana from one of the displays and decided to go visit it before we had to leave the state on our trip. The museum is well worth the price and is a great display of the state's history, personalities and stories and is on the top 10 of things to see in the area.

Third floor of the museum , very cool!

They work year round on their detailed and amazing set designs (i actually spent more time looking at those than even trying to enjoy the spooks and scares). The actors are pretty good. We missed some of the features due to how our group got mixed with a slower moving couple who awkwardly held up things and kept pulling off to the side. I like that they have some actor engagement in the line... i feel like there could be more bc you really are just standing there. They added more bathrooms for the line, so that was nice. I appreciate the security in and around the house. This particular year (and perhaps previous years as I haven't been in a few), the whole thing ended pretty suddenly and lacklusterly when you just walk out into a store selling shirts.... no ending fright, nothing to really make it end memorably. We enjoyed the various places to take pictures across the street, and they always have some talented bands playing. I love that the actors enjoy the experience every year, and it's even better that this little gem is available right here in Baton Rouge!

There are activities on the first and second floor. There are things to do and see and get dirty and get all hands on, both inside and outside. The staff are so friendly. The ones who are working in certain hands on areas are very good about maintaining clean working environments not just for themselves, but for the children as well. You have everything from stem learning areas to the artist garden, and the pelican pottery area. There is an area where kids learn about bubbles and the Girl Scouts had an event today where they were learning about the solar system. There is just so much for kids to see and do here. Admission is $15 but I can tell you, it is worth absolutely every penny. If I lived any closer, I would easily pay the $100 for the membership. That would be entirely worth it. There is this one structure that looks like a bunch of piled up both open and closed books. It is actually a climbing structure for the kids. It extends from the base floor all the way up to the second floor, which is the main level. It is quite a sight to see your child hook their head up from the structure up and over the guard rails on the second floor. The kids here were so friendly. They were very friendly and no one was pushy. The parents are also allowed to climb on the structure. That was pretty cool. I don't know about you, but I don't trust my knees. I would rather not slide or fall off anything that I really shouldn't have had any business climbing up all over on anyway. We met some really great people here. We had such an amazing & lovely time here!
