We contacted Walter who told us if we wanted a quote to take pictures of our chimney or it would be 2 weeks before he could get to our house. We sent pictures and were given a quote. He came to our house to repair on a day when it was due to rain. He jumped on our roof and took off as it started to rain. We assumed he needed a part (he mentioned this prior to getting on the roof) so we patiently waited for him to call or text us back. Come Sunday I insisted my husband text him to see what was up. Walter mentioned we will need two more replacement parts he needs a quote for. It's late on a Tuesday and still NO response. I understand this might be busy season, but this is absolutely NO way to run a business. Any normal company would have sent a text immediately after leaving our house (not waiting for us to contact him 3 days later and then another 3 days after that) stating he needed an X amount of days to get back to us. A professional would text a quick response and say "still working on that quote, need more time". It is early November and the weather has dropped to 19 degrees last night and no Walter or contact from this supposed five star company. Poor business practice. I broke down and sent a text stating I was a disappointed customer in regards to his no message reply and delay on his quote. He advised me he's waiting on a price for "custom estimate" from his supplier. In my text, I stated my husband is insisting we call a more reliable company. Walter replied "I agree, get a few quotes". What makes me pause to think, is his choice of getting a few quotes. If my choice was to get quotes to find the lowest bidder, I would have down that road three weeks ago and I guarantee we would have gone with another company or at least one who replies they are still working on the quote BEFORE I patiently waited 6 days to contact him. I am not sure who rated his service as five stars except clients who just needed a cleaning or minor repair. Our estimate was already approximately $700 and looks to be a lot more going forward. If you are looking for more than a chimney cleaning or minor repairs, this is definitely NOT the company you want to choose. He seems to be the only person working/owning for this company. read more

It was a duplex unit. Both fireplaces had separate issues. One had a cracked fireplace insert & the other the handle would not close the cover all the way. Walter was able to quote me a price with some pics sent of the cracked insert. Said he would take a look at the other unit while he was there. We played abit of phone/text tag to schedule, but he repaired the cracked unit perfectly. With the other much older unit, all it was user error. The handle just had to be pushed up more firmly to seal. He waived off the separate $75 fee for that, which was cool... so I will use him again & can recommend him. 1 way things could be better would be electronic billing/invoices/payment for easier accounting purposes (got texted a handwritten receipt... abit hard to read your chicken scratch Walter... haha) and then had to snail mail a check to pay him. Awesome. Showed up on time and got right to work. Turned out a wire on the thermocouple was loose so he tightened it and the fireplace lit up like a charm. He then vacuumed up all the dirt and ashes, rearranged the logs and laid down some rocks and sand underneath. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Worst customer service I have encountered in some time. Was referred to Walter by a roofing company. Called to set up an appointment. He set up appointment for 2 weeks out on a Saturday. He never showed up and never called. I called him the following Monday and left message inquiring why he didn't make appointment. He did not return my call that day. Called him on Tuesday and he did return call. Didn't even remember who I was or that we had set up appt. No remorse for not calling me. Set up appointment for today at noon. Capitol Chimney was referred to me by my realtor. I reached out looking for some assistance with part of my relocation package's "outstanding list." I was looking for a licensed professional who could eliminate the soot build-up and seal some cracked bricks/mortar in my firebox. I spoke with Walter Clarke who was very friendly and willing to help. He scheduled time for the same week I called. He came out as planned and stayed several hours. I paid him $350.00. All was good until this past week when I received the re-inspection report and basically everything that was "addressed" at the initial visit was still showing as outstanding. My wife called and spoke with Walter who asked that we send him the emails to look at and that he would get back with us. The inspection company was looking for the work to be completed or documentation on company letterhead explaining why it was not addressed. Those emails were sent to Walter on Friday of last week and no response - nothing despite additional voicemails left by my wife. Since I have nothing else to go off of (the decency of a phone call/email reply, etc.) I'm left to believe that I got scammed (again no call to explain - what else should I believe took place?). Now..... as a result of this unfortunate situation - I'm out the $350 Walter charged me and am having to pony up an additional $300 in the form of a deduction on my home close. Wow!
