They also have windows and doors. And that's about it. It's all discounted, most of it new but off-brand but some of it product overruns, the stock is rather unpredictable but what they have typically runs a lot cheaper than the Lowe's and Home Depot and moderately cheaper than Lumber Liquidators and the like. If you're not picky, or if you're building for somebody else's renovation, you can find good bargains here. As for long-term quality, I know not: everything here seems to be fairly elemental. There are a few semi-custom things you can order (windows, notably) but exactly how custom is hard to tell. In any event, there's definitely money to be saved but it does depend on what your tolerance range is for style and selection. Probably worth poking your head in if you're doing your own home renovation, particularly on a rental or an in-law unit. Location is at 7 and Watt St., you have to turn onto Watt from 7 and go by United Buffet, Ocean State, and the panoply of dollar stores through the parking lot to get to Bargain Outlet all the way at the end.

Most people know me by sight and name and I have my own wonderful dedicated sales person who takes such good care of me! Teressa is fun, kind, friendly, helpful, efficient and knowledgeable! I especially LOVE all the choices that they have in their huge store! Their selections change regularly as they bring in new materials and eye candy for me to use on projects. Also this should be noted, they have tile made from all over the world, many of the vendors are from Europe. Most other places locally only carry materials from China, which as you may imagine are just not on the same quality level. If I had one criticism it would be this, they hard working ladies are assigned to professional accounts like mine. They are not as successful helping individual people walking in off the street who have no idea what is happening. Plus with the thousands of choices and millions of combinations available in here, it can feel very daunting and overwhelming for people. We've treated the wood (after a year of seasoning) and have nothing good to say about how the allegedly "kiln dried" wood has evolved. The wood shrunk in odd ways- sideways, lengthwise, curved decking (5/4 round). We spaced the boards correctly and the wood has shrunk amazingly odd. Never again will we buy wood from Fridns. THINK LONG AND HARD before you buy from Friends. Their wood ain't "friendly!"

Recently I asked them to make several wooden screens for some windows. Their craftsmanship in their woodworking shop has been of the highest quality. I admit upfront that I might not be the typical customer who goes to 84 Lumber. I am not a…read morecontractor, nor am I a woodworker. However, I recently found myself looking for dimensional lumber (1x4) in the lengths of 10 and 12 feet. Home Depot and Lowe's do not typically carry wood this long, at least in pine (as opposed to exotic or hardwoods or composites) and in a quality grade (meaning, not cheap warped pine). I called here on a whim and they told me that they carried exactly what I was looking for. I drove over on a Saturday morning in the winter and went inside. They don't heat anything except the check-out area, and it was cold. But, they pointed out the area where I needed to look and helped me pick out some wood. It was about 50% more than the big box stores per foot, but the pine was warp and knot free and available in the lengths I needed. I purchased a bunch and they told me to drive my car into the building where they loaded it for me. It stuck out the back of my little Corolla but I made it home fine. Being a lumberyard, I doubt I will have much need to come here. However, they were helpful and priced right and carried what I needed (and couldn't find elsewhere). Just wear a coat!
