I recently had soil treatment done on several trees (maples and a ginkgo) at a family property in Rio Linda. The arborist who came to do the initial assessment was knowledgeable and took time to explain tree health and care, which I greatly appreciated. However, there was some confusion about the scope of the service and pricing. The work performed appeared less extensive than I expected, and I had to follow up to better understand and address the discrepancy. To their credit, after some discussion, the owner adjusted the invoice to a fair amount. I appreciate that they were ultimately willing to work with me to reach a reasonable resolution. My olive tree has signs of insect infestation from borers, which can kill a tree. A few years ago, I had another olive tree with the same problem. I called a guy who trimmed and removed trees and he recommended that I remove it. Which I paid him to do. Since I wanted to save this tree I figured it was important to find a certified arborist, not just a tree service company. Fortunately, I looked around and found Mike DuPont, owner of Capital Arborists, who is an ISA Certified Arborist. Mike came out and inspected the tree to determine its viability. He explained the problem and instructed me on how to apply the systemic insecticide, which I had on hand. He educated me on how often I should use it, what times of the year, and follow up steps to optimize the treatment. I thought I might need to water the tree more (e.g., buying a soaker hose). Mike informed me that wasn't necessary. In fact, too much water can hurt a olive tree. Did I need to trim the tree so keep it healthy? No, it looked good to Mike. So, Mike armed me with the information so I could take care of the tree ongoing. Wish I had found Mike before I spent the money to remove the first olive tree. I might have saved the other tree and the money I spent removing it. read more

But it's kind of like when you get a haircut it looks good or does it? It takes time. Well after time I couldn't be happier with the outcome. The team was the quote was good and on time, the work was scheduled timely, the crew was professional and left it clean as if they hadn't been there, very professional. Estimate includes "removing dead tips." 10 months later dead tips are still there. Arborist came out today & confirmed job wasn't done properly. 2.5 feet needs to be cut off the top & the interior needs to be cleaned up. Jeff visited our property to inspect a Giant Sequoia which is over 30 years old. We wanted to know if the tree was healthy or if it needed to be removed. He told us tree was healthy, he could have said the tree needs to come down, but he did not. He is very ethical and I would not hesitate to use his company. read more

Had a scheduled appt for 2 months, No show. Called and was told someone from my office called and canceled. We did not, that was a lie. Once a manager called back he said HE made the mistake and canceled us and we would not be serviced for another month. I asked to speak to the owner for 2 days and they never called. The owner, Jeff Alspaw, has been monitoring their health and providing guidance on irrigation throughout this very hot summer. In addition, Jeff and his assistant Will did an outstanding job of diligently troubleshooting a sprinkler system problem that was created by the builder (Lennar). I wasn't very happy when Jeff the owner said it was best to remove the tree, and not just cut it back. He explained the science behind his recommendation and the root structure and was extremely knowledgeable. The crew was on time and removed several trees. They were all extremely polite. What I noticed most was how they worked together, the efficient team work and the comradeship. For coworkers to be that happy working in the mud on a rainy day, they must really love their jobs. Jeff and his crew did an amazing job removing a large oak on our property. The tree was failing and had to be removed for safety reasons. The gear he used made the job safe for his team, which was challenging given the state of decay of some parts of the upper canopy. The lift was able to get into my back yard (4' of clearance) and was very impressive to watch the crew utilize (and a lot cheaper than other bids that were going to rent a gigantic crane from the street and over my house). Lisa came out to do an assessment of multiple trees that have suffered through the drought years, then grown exuberantly after last year's rain. We liked that her emphasis was on the health of the trees, targeting risky areas first, then marking us up for another assessment next year. We needed that, to have a plan for ongoing care. The crew was personable and efficient. Some of the work was in close proximity to other plantings and they were careful not to damage anything. They arrived ahead of schedule, cleaned all the debris both on our property and our neighbor's building where our trees were creating a hazard.
