Something tingles in my mind, so I bring it to my favorite Route 18 auto body in Abington ( after I get charged $75 to take it back.). $350, new pads and rotors only needed on 2 tires and they said the calipers don't need to be replaced, just cleaned. My issue is that I got an estimate ($400-$600) for brakes (later he told me he meant "per axle" even though he didn't say that), and so I dropped off the car. I then got a call that he had 45 minutes of work into it and it would actually cost $1600. I said yes because his mention of the "45 minutes" made me foresee he was going to charge me a diagnostic fee if I didn't let him complete the work. When I went to pick it up, he said "That will be $1850." He explained that the parts cost more than his mechanical previously told him. He said he did an oil change (that I didn't ask for or want because I pre-paid for routine maintenance at the dealer). After I complained, he reluctantly deducted half the cost of the oil change. I protested because I already paid the dealer for that, and he then took off the rest of the oil change fee, but made me feel bad for asking. He then refused to accept his own $20 coupon because "you already got a deal." And said passively-aggressively: "I wish people knew that these cars are expensive to own." And "I wish people would call the dealer to see that they charge more." Yes, I know they charge more. That is why I came here. He acted like he was losing money, but the rotors, pads, and sensors all come to under $1000 for parts, so even if he stuck to his quote, he would be getting about $650 for labor. Now bad for about three hours of work. I left paying $1710 plus tax, which is $110 more than the quote he gave after taking the car apart and knowing exactly what it needed. So yeah, I feel like I am owed $110 plus tax before all is right in the universe. I am so glad I didn't send my wife in to pay, as she certainly would have just paid the bill without knowing it was wrong.

Update: despite the response given, I did not receive a single update on the status of my car…read more Clicking the link days later still said it was taken in for inspection and nothing else. Nothing was discussed with me and I did not receive a report about what was "wrong" with my tires replaced in 2022 and brakes replaced in 2023. I also don't appreciate a link for details about my particular service appointment being posted on a global forum for anyone to read, especially while not receiving them myself until my complaint. In addition, in the hour you had my car with no updates to me, the tires were not rotated or pressure checked, as I'd been meaning to do that myself - had the information front and center on my dash to remind myself. The pressure in all were still not equal and were in the same place they were upon dropping off. Fluids were not topped off as I had to fill my empty wiper fluid less than a week after my service. I would have loved the service you promised, but no communication and half the service not done in double the time estimated is why I gave this review.

Berlin's shop was very experienced, carefully reviewed the scope and quoted prior to doing the work so I could prioritize and schedule services accordingly. I am very happy with the work quality, the shop interaction and value is unmatched. I have owned and driven BMWs and Hondas on the south shore for over 30 years and I am grateful for the quality and integrity of this shop!! The owner is professional, experienced and invested in his work and service level and value is far above the level of service at my Honda and BMW dealers where the past few years particularly dealer mis-diagnosing and overselling services is standard, ie last year when I simply needed a new battery from autozone on my Honda CRV the dealer diagnosed a $2,500 bs job which I declined. BMW dealer diagnostic and repair quote was also totally nuts, but that's par for the BMW service course so you need to establish a great independent service shop and Berlins Garage works for both vehicles.

Friends and people in the parking lot were awesome, ready to help move it to a parking space but we couldn't get the car out of park. By now it's late and freezing outside. Evan the amazing driver from Andy's Towing shows up with this beautiful brand new tow truck and he was able to get my car out of park and into neutral in seconds! He towed it to my mechanic's shop and put the keys in the drop box for me and my nightmare was over. Huge shout out to Andy's Towing!!

I can change a flat no problem, but the lug nuts wouldn't budge so AAA sent someone from Andy's. Bad news: They couldn't get the tire off either and it had to be towed. They could have marked the job as done and I would have been on my own to call AAA again, but the driver said he couldn't leave us on the side of the road any longer, however the four kids couldn't fit in his truck, so he called a second truck from his company that could fit us all, and the two trucks took us to the local Burger King to make alternate arrangements. They were very kind and helpful with the kids, even talking to them as I moved each one into the truck to make it fun and not scary. Everyone had a good time and we eventually made it home safely.
