Since the beginning I was always a client of Phillip -- he is like family, my mom has been w him forever, too! But since he was on vacation, I saw Laurie today and she is super amazing, too! Got a much needed haircut after cutting my own hair when Covid broke out, she gave me a fantastic cut and a plethora of advice - my hair was in bad need of professional help! She also does color but I was just there for a cut. Now I'm all dolled up ready for Mother's Day brunch tomorrow!!! Kim is also gr8 for color, I used to see her back in the day. Really u can't go wrong at the Philip Ciampa Salon. There are at least two other locations, one of them I think it wakefield(?) They do nails as well. Excellent accommodating staff! And if memory serves me well, there are some scrumptious cookies always there during the holidays! Lol Plenty of parking, too! Recommend to book in advance they have a big fan club!

I stopped by this place randomly a few months ago for a blow-dry on my lunch hour. You know, just…read morea one-time thing, a nice little luxury never to be repeated... and then the bitches got me hooked. Sarah gives the GREATEST blowout for my naturally (very) curly hair. And I am a pretty reliable source on this subject, due to lots of painstaking research. My curly mop has forced me to become an expert at doing it myself, and therefore the toughest critic of any professional - if I'm paying for it, you'd better outdo the job I could on my own. So since that fatal first time, I've been back quite a few more for this lunchtime luxury. Once I could not get in with Sarah, so booked an appointment with Allison. She was equally as great! I was pleasantly surprised. It's always nice to find one pro who truly "gets" really curly hair at a salon, finding two is like winning the lottery! Both of these girls understand the essentials for a sleek, straight blowout on very curly hair: #1 Allow enough time. After my very first appointment, Sarah made a note in the computer that I took a little longer than the average client. I SO appreciated this. There is nothing worse than a stylist rushing their way through, bitchy comments that "you have SO much hair", etc. Can't control my genes, people! #2 Don't take too long. Okay, I know #1 and #2 are at odds, but there really is a perfect balance, and these ladies understand it! They are quick and efficient without being rushed. #3 Don't put a bunch of product crap in my hair and then act surprised when you are unable to get it to dry completely. Both Sarah and Alison understand that less is more when it comes to product - in any situation, but especially mine. #4 Don't overdo it with the flat iron. Unnecessary, if it's a really great blow-out. And this qualifies - why kill off all that great salon volume and "flippiness" that I can't do myself at home? #5 Don't charge a million dollars. For such skilled stylists, this place is VERY reasonable compared to others I've tried in the area. #6 Be generally awesome. Sarah and Allison have this one down. I'm not usually a big talker at the salon, but I've genuinely enjoyed these ladies. What a breath of fresh air this place is - it's obvious that the staff is professionally trained, and of course it's in Lexington, but there is miraculously not a hint of snootiness to be found! ... Which is why I'll be back. And it's definitely time to try some more services. Updates to follow!

I'm starting this review with what I said to the owner (who was also my stylist) at the end of my…read morefirst and last visit to Amirage when she told me my wash, cut, and blowdry was $59: "You guys are so expensive". Generally, when a client says this to you about a good or service you have just provided, the first and most logical question the merchant should ask him or herself (or the client) should be: "do you ¬feel that what you received was worth the money?" (spoiler alert: no. I don't). Instead, the owner of Amirage salon made multiple justifications as to why she charges so much for the haircut: "We only use organic products", "I believe in training and education for myself and employees", etc. What's that you say? I should have gone to the website and checked the prices. Oh, I did. They're not listed. Had I only paid $30 or so for the haircut, I wouldn't even be writing this review. It's simply my frustration with the salon's audacity to grossly overcharge for the service, ambiance, and experience. I went in to Amirage because I had a $50 Spa Finder gift card and this was the closest salon to my parents' house at which I was staying for a local bridal shower and wanted to get a trim and blow out. I have stick straight hair that I keep very long without layers in the back and keep parted in the middle. Very simple. I told the owner I wanted no more than 1/2" trimmed and just have the front layers cleaned up. At one point I looked down to find a 1.5" chunk of my hair in my lap. My hair is now medium length in the back. The front layers are choppy and uneven. They are not the work of someone dedicated to continuing training in her craft. This is a haircut I could get at Supercuts. I've spent less on Newbury Street and received a far superior haircut. She also kept getting water and soap all over the sides of my face while she washed my hair which drives me nuts. I shouldn't have to towel off my face after getting my hair washed ESPECIALLY if you're so dedicated to improving your craft that you justify the cost of your hair cut to your client as contributing to your own personal training. The salon itself is outdated and mismatched in a strip mall (that is also outdated) with neon office lights in the ceiling and what appears to be mold in the bathroom around the sink fixtures. I actually thought at multiple times in my visit (before I knew the cost of the cut) that Tabitha should take over this salon. I went to the bathroom when I first arrived and actually thought about leaving because the place was so outdated and not cared for, but I really needed the cut and blow out and had the stupid gift card. I should have trusted my instinct! The cabinets over the hair washing sinks were one color on the top (wood) and another on the bottom (black, 90s style). There was a broken, plastic rolling cart (similar to what you would get at Target for $9 for a dorm room) just sitting in the middle of the cramped styling area. The table set in front of my stylist's chair for me to put my purse on had dust in all of the crevices. I could tell because the table was black and the dust was so think that it was an even white layer. Just a thought: maybe use the $59 to hire a cleaning person or buy some Pledge wipes. The mirrors are relics from the 90s with splatter paint on the borders. In fact, half of the salon was leftover from the 90s. I assume the other half needed repairs at some point, so it was just replaced with something entirely different (i.e. cheaper). I went to the salon's website and noticed that NONE of the pictures are really from the salon. Don't be fooled. This place is a dump. Amirage was crowded, mismatched, poorly lit, and cheap looking. My only hope is that anyone reading this will visit the salon first to see for themselves before receiving a seriously overpriced, mediocre haircut. I gave the salon 2 stars instead of 1 because my stylist was very, very nice. I'll give her that.

I witnessed both the pleasant and well mannered clients and the ill mannered. Today, for example, a client came in demanding free service as well as extra accoutrements because her roots grow out quicker than she anticipated. I sat fuming at her nerve to demand such services. Both the stylist and the owner handled it with firm, but patient and kind limits. I admired the professionalism of the entire staff who witnessed this inappropriate outburst. The owner compromised and the stylist treated this customer with friendliness and skill throughout her process. In terms of skill, each of the stylists, especially the owner, Wendy, works her magic with the most challenging type of hair. Some stylists tell me "you have the most difficult type of hair to style." Not only does Wendy style it with flair, but also it lasts for three, sometimes four days, despite daily activity and sleep. They also offer manicures, pedicures, and other spa services with smiling and welcoming staff. This business, a hidden gem, deserves praise and I especially encourage kind, friendly and caring folks to consider this spa.

I have never went to that salon at all but it has been in the town for Bedford for many years. Before I could say anything to the stylist Amy she started to wack off my hair. I went in there with one length hair and came out with 3 inches on top of my head. I had a picture of a bob. At the end of the hair cut she didn't even check to see if the sides where even. They where not. This is most worst hair cut that I ever got in my life. I was so upset that I called the salon and talked to the owner. I had to call her up 3 times and email her before I could talk to her. When I told her how upset I was and what a rotten job she did and that I wanted my $65.00 back. The manager said (oh no I have to pay my stylist.) I was so taken aback that I told her that I would never go back there again. She wanted me to come back in. I said no.
