From the Highland HS area salon to Craft and now ROCOCO. Yes, you may have to wait but it will be worth it, I assure you. She is fantastic with color, short hair and long, curly and straight. What else? I was so impressed during the pandemic and still am, now that things have opened up, how meticulous ROCOCO is about temps, social distancing and spraying everything down. I'm older and Tiffany was so kind - early morning appts with no one else in the salon. She has a talented group of other stylists there and she is a great teacher. Honestly? This location is TOTALLY INCONVENIENT for lazy me, but I'd probably drive to Socorro if she had chosen to open there (thank god she didn't!). I went in over the summer for a balayage and cut, I had just finished my first semester of grad school here and it was meant to be somewhat of a treat to myself. I had Melissa do my hair and she seemed friendly and considerate at first. Positives: The cut was fine and the dye job wasn't awful. Negatives: I had barely been sat down in the chair for 10 min when Melissa exclaimed 'wow your hair is soooo thin!' ok so this threw me off guard a little bit.. For one, my hair isn't exactly super thick, but it also isn't super thin either and besides that, I would think a hairdresser would know better than to make those kinds of comments. But ok, moving on, I chalked it up to insensitivity. Strike 2, we were chatting and she asked me 'where are you from', 'England!', 'oh but ethnically?' 'ahh my dad is iranian' 'ahhh! so thats where the thin hair comes from'. I kid you not, her words exactly. Who says that??? Way to make me feel like shit about myself. Third strike comes in the form of 'you have grad student hair, what happens is grad students don't eat properly, and they're stresses and then their hair starts to fall out'. Ok cool. At this point I have no choice but to put on a smile because I'm stuck in this chair for a good 2 hours or so. So the fourth strike comes when shes washing my hair and exclaims 'your hair feels nasty!' I'm literally gobsmacked and mumble something about 'It's probably product buildup..' she starts going on about how its from dying my hair too much and how hair dye strips the hair - guys, I haven't dyed my hair in 4 years and I say so, instead of accepting that I would know if I'd dyed my hair she replies with 'hmmmm are you sure, because hair dye causes damage like this..'.................................... Honestly at this point I'm on the verge of tears but holding it together. I've lost count of the strikes. Then comes the so called balayage. It wasn't what I wanted - didn't look faded in, she did such fine layers that it ended up looking like a weird blob of colour. Perhaps this was my fault and I should have been more clear, well at one point I said to her 'I know you know what you're doing but could you do the layers a little bit thicker but less of them' she gave me this look as if to say 'I know what I'm doing' and just said nothing. I've attached a picture of my hair that I took immediately after getting it done. This is just my personal experience but I would not recommend this place. There are much more talented hairdressers in town.

Melissa listened to what I wanted and gave me advice on how best to wash and style my hair. If you have curly hair I would highly recommend Eden's Rain. This place is fabulous!…read more A bunch of hairdressers who were tired of the crap they took at their regular salons got together and created one they way they wanted it - and they did a helluva job! The salon itself is really beautiful. Big open space, decorated with just enough panache to be interesting, not so much you are rolling your eyes - Goldilocks perfect. The stations are open and make the most of the space - which is quite large. Excellent natural light from the windows covering half of the wall space, so it feels even more open and welcoming. They keep it really clean, which is really nice for a salon. The bathrooms are spotless, and the rest of the place looks first client-fresh all day. My hairdresser, Laurie - who I recommend wholeheartedly - is so happy there. She's been at a number of salons in the city and she feels completely at home here. So - a moment just for Laurie - she is amazing. Seriously knows her stuff, but will do whatever you want. You know how some hairdressers listen to what you want with your very own hair an then do something totally different? I hate that SO MUCH! Laurie is so not like that - she talks to you before she does anything, makes sure she knows what you want and discusses the entire process with you before she starts. On top of that, if you aren't really certain what you want, she will make all kinds of awesome suggestions and it is in your best interests to listen to her. She really does know her stuff. Plus - she is just really nice and fun to talk to - pretty important in a hair dresser! Regarding the review written by Sara P: Kayla was all about Groupon and Living Social, and that seemed to be going well, but she had a family emergency and actually moved back home to another state to help her family. Living Social is supposed to be handling refunds, but the other hairdressers at Shear Brilliance would be happy to provide you with the service you requested. I understand you were frustrated, but leaving a 1-star review for an entire business, composed of multiple independent contractors, based on your limited interactions with one person, especially now that you know the extreme circumstances - well, it's just not fair. Anyway - I truly love Shear Brilliance and support them wholeheartedly. They are a wonderful group of people, doing a job they love in a place they created together, and it's just plain fun to go there. Please give it a try - Laurie is the best, but all of them are worth your time and money.
