Most of the staff and very friendly, upbeat and helpful. I had a great experience and like this store for many reasons.

So many bulk foods! The staff is generally pretty friendly, but a few of them seem kind of grumpy at times. Their selection of beer is pretty good, which - to me - makes up for their sometimes-outrageous prices. (Like Sundance and Kiva, they usually have at least a few beers on sale so that you can get a microbrew without breaking your wallet.) They live up to their slogan that they have "world class variety" - the brands and varieties of food are pretty eclectic. I would give them 5 stars except that, in addition to some of the minor weaknesses I've mentioned, their meat department is not very well run: the workers don't know much about where the meat comes from or how the animals are treated. read more

I've came here and shopped at this Market for four years and I never had a problem...but I've chosen to no longer go there anymore. Here's why: I get an amazing product about a week ago from Capella Market, but I found out that there was another counterpart that complements the product I bought. So I thought it was a great idea to get it and the worker there happily orders it specially for me. I received the counterpart (i.e. damaged) and I realize that it had the same exact ingredients as the product that I had already bought from Capella. I didn't feel right having the complementary product claiming to do something different if I have the other product that has the exact same things in it. So I go back the next day to return it (i.e. I've never opened it or sampled it) and I asked if I could get a refund. The worst happened. Two of their workers yelled at me and rudely gave me my money back. I've never been yelled at by people who work in retail before. They are mostly known to be kind and helping their customers because, "the customer is always right" (i.e. and they've learned not to yell immediately at a customer)...but they were not courteous to me at all...they were irate! I would have been 100% fine if they told me nicely that since it was specially ordered for me, I'd have to keep it, but they never gave me that option except for, "I'll do this for you only once!" and "We've lost on this because of you." The most shocking thing is that I was glared down by one of the workers and I had to pull the receipt out their hands because they were holding it so tight. Capella Market, it was nice knowing you, but it's time for me to move on to a better store and better workers who serve their customers well. Please learn and continue to love and be kind to others. Five stars! There is nothing wrong with this place! FIVE STARS! I LOVE YOU CAPELLA! 12/18/11 - It really, really pains me to do this, but I am bumping Capella down to three stars and writing a warning. Every time I have shopped there over the past three months I have gotten really terrible customer service. The selection is still great, the store is still clean, but the weed is too good or something. I can accept and deal with spaced out checkout girls and baggers, although I am really not enjoying having to repack my bags every time I go or risk them breaking on the way home. But the butcher counter is something else. Some of the guys working at the butcher's counter do not fill me with confidence. They do the opposite. If you can't follow a simple conversation or look me in the eye, I am not enthused about letting you handle raw meat I am going to ingest. I am not buying meat or fish there anymore. read more

While this is a pleasant neighborhood market, I certainly expected better. I was hoping for something more like Wheatsville in Austin, but what I found was more like an outdated concept of a local market with limited and overpriced options that didn't really excite or intrigue. read more

This is a small, locally owned grocery store that emphasizes local, organic and sustainable. Of course, much of their produce and other goods come from far away, but they label where produce is from, much of the meat is local and they carry Garry's milk, which is super local. The store is clean, service is friendly and they donate to local causes. So why not shop here? read more

It's a little grocery store, with nice people and casual service. I sometimes get in line where the checker is chatting interminably with some customer about absolutely NOTHING interesting, and, as I feel my irritation rising I remind myself "Relax! It's organic!" Mainly, I like that Capella has a nice selection of high quality food, and is pleasant and unpretentious about it. Plus, it's a fairly easy in and out when I just want to pick up some produce for dinner. (And sometimes it's even a deal: my favorite Rembrandt aged gouda cheese is, seriously, about half the price of the same stuff at PC.) read more

Capella is awesomely, amazingly, adorably grand! It's always a sunny day inside :) and their selection is good, most especially if you have a food allergy. I'm gluten-sensitive and when I want to buy some fancy GF pasta, this is where I go. Their deli is fantastic, and their meat selection is my fave in town. I try to go here as often as possible to support them because they are not as much of a presence as Market of Choice... but what am I saying? I love them both! Definitely worth checking out and shopping at regularly :) Especially if you have a food allergy! read more

Very liberal, and yet well run (and not rude!)... a surprisingly good example of what Eugene can be when it gets beyond its usual selfish (and rampantly unhygienic) "culture". The sandwiches in the back are a great custom-order deal, too. read more

Thank you Yelp and Capella Market! Yelp, you were RIGHT THERE fir me when I searched for a healthy market in Eugene, Oregon. We were on a road trip and I needed a place to stop for some good healthy eats...and Yelp picked up on Capella...THANK YOU!!! The deli made me exactly what I wanted...turkey and Swiss no bread but all the trimmings... They lovingly made it with a smile and it was delicious. My cotraveler husband found the buffalo jerky and chicken jerky and now we are hooked! We will always make a stop here whenever we travel down I-5 to SF, and we will recommend to all our friends. I'm very pleased with Capella. They have lots of gluten-free items including a variety "hot" and "cold" deli items. A number of choices of gluten-free bread (very top row of bread shelf) and Dave's Killer Bread "White done right" if you are only moderately gluten intolerant. For a little market it is packed with variety for everyone. Their meats are fresh and their home-made sausages are delicious. read more

I do most all of my shopping between Sundance and Capellas. Why Capellas? They have great meat and seafood! Good staff behind the counter. And they know their food! They have an excellent produce selection, and all the staples. A good selection of bulk spices that are all organic (not like MOC where they might be irradiated). Best bacon in town. Plus it's nice to shop in a smaller store. Prices on some things are high, on others quite reasonable. Every store does this. Shop in a few and take advantage of their tendencies. I will say: I've learned to ask about dates before buying some meat items as sometimes I get home, then read the package and realize I've gotta cook it that very day. OTOH, I've had seafood from Capellas that people swore was the best they ever tasted. So. Like anyplace without the styro/prepackaged meat trays, ask first! read more

A wonderful neighborhood market that has all the great staples that a larger grocery store would have. I love their bulk section and they even have discounted produce that usually is pretty good with minor blemishes. On a busy day this place can get a little bit cramped with people using their carts to block sections of the produce or parts of the aisle without the thought of others around them but on a normal or uncrowded day this place is awesome. They have fresh local breads, a nice meat counter, a few hot food options and a decent beer/wine section. They don't have much as far as a frozen section goes but that's ok, we should eat more fresh food anyways! While their prices are a little higher than somewhere like Safeway, the quality of the food is good and the vibe is way better than a large chain. They have a bottle recycling station here and also a small section of pet food. I need to try their deli sandwiches that other Yelper's have recommended! read more

My daughter and I have shopped at Capella's since it opened because we enjoy the big selection of fresh, local produce, the butcher's carefully chosen meat/fish offerings, and a wonderful array of bulk foods at very good prices. The deli is another highlight. Big, tasty sandwiches made to the customer's specifications, salads, vegetables created from many recipes, barbecued chicken and tempeh, and comforting mac and cheese and buttery mashed spuds. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable. A few of these excellent employees have been with the store for years, always cheerful and hospitable, and we've begun to think of them as friends, too. read more

For a locally owned store, Capella's is limited with their selections of condiments, vegetables, meats, bulk foods, and basic supplies for the kitchen or home. It's a cute market with an amazing sky mural on the ceiling that's been there for years. I've been disappointed several times looking for a special ingredient when I'm cooking. Capellas really is where it's at when it comes to shopping locally for organic foods. Not everything they carry is GMO free, but their shelves are marked with what is and what isn't. They have an almost crazy amount of staff members on duty at all times and most are super friendly and ready to help. There are also demos going on at the store most days and it's fun to taste new things. My only complaint for this store is a couple staff members who are consistently grumpy and one in particular, Steen (Stein?), who I have seen on two occasions be super rude to other employees, and has been rude to my face snapping at me for asking a question about whether they carried a certain product or not when his original answer was not clear. I'm surprised they haven't gotten rid of him yet, I would shop here a lot more often if they did. read more

Awesome store. It's amazing living near so many excellent grocery stores. Eugene is one place that literally has no need for a Whole Foods or Trader Joes, but it has them as well. Capella has a large, high-quality meat deli which is special for a natural foods store like this. They have pretty good prices too. Nice juice bar in the back and good hot foods too. read more

We stopped here for picnic food on our way to go hiking. After a long hike it was great to unwrap these huge, delicious sandwiches. They were chock full of fresh ingredients- vegetables, herb roasted turkey, hummus etc. Thanks Dan! read more

Stay out of this store unless you want to be insulted in front of your children for asking the price of an item. A teenage clerk just told me that she does not memorize the prices of the the merchandise and that I should go find that information for myself. I will not set foot in that store again, and I have spent a fair amount of money there in the past few months. read more

Generally, love the store, love the selection, love the bi-weekly sales, and most of employees are great and give good service. We've spent 50-80% of our $550-$600 monthly food budget there every month since they opened their doors. Don't love the Deli staff though, often have to wait, even when there's no other customers and 2-3 employees behind the counter. Staff often acts/appears really stoned, and usually pretty slow. Today, however, really took the cake: while shopping on a lunch break, I was waiting for a few slices of deli meat: put my order in to one person, got passed to another person, who passed me to another person, who disappeared. Waited 5-10 min, watched 4 or 5 other customers get help and leave, and gave up. Decided to get something from Meat dept. instead (where I was helped immediately, even though they were busy too). When I went to check out, someone from the deli ran up with my deli meat: when I told her sorry, I don't want it now, got something else, I was waiting too long, she tried to force it in my hands, basically accosting me and harassed me for several minutes how it would go to waste if I didn't take it. I've never been treated so inappropriately in a store, and was very offended. If she had any attempt at being nice, acknowledged, sorry, it was a long wait, blah, blah, I probably would've taken it anyway, even though by then I didn't want/need it. So yeah, no stars for Deli Dept.; but rest of store gets 4.5. They make it easy to support LOCAL. read more
