We live in Central San Diego and did our research before deciding to seal the deal with where we took our puppy. We were not just looking for ANY puppy training place, we were looking for a facility that was also pretty centrally located, friendly service, professional website, affordable pricing and would cater to our puppy to earn his AKC S.T.A.R as well as CGC down the road... we were picky nonetheless. Well, this place checked off all of our specific criteria. Upon contacting JANE GLICKMAN, she was by far so friendly, knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. She assisted us with our puppy Pumba since he was about 4.5 months (STAR PUPPY CLASS) followed by his GENERAL OBEDIENCE course (qualifies him for CGC). Both were 6 week courses that were conveniently on a SUNDAY (afternoon 10/11/12 PM). This worked out perfectly for us and we did not mind the time schedule. We showed up, received a schedule, homework print-outs and you can add on the puppy textbook! (GOOD READ AND A MUST IF YOU ARE NEW TO HAVING A PUPPY OR JUST WANT TO BRUSH UP ON TRAINING/KNOWLEDGE) Upon arriving, the location offers tons of parking, it is clean, odor free, large & well maintained. We were pleasantly surprised with the general set-up! Who woulda thought...right there on COMMERICAL street. Tucked away between breweries & dispensaries on a ONE WAY street. (be cautious when exiting the complex). There is a large backyard with tons of grass and kennels to sit with your pup while Jane is giving the lecture for the day. My favorite part was in PUPPY class when the pup's can play off leash and interact. It was great for our baby to get exposed to other pup's (we are very picky with who he can and can't play with) so this is a great environment. WARNING !!! To All Doggy family member owners in San Diego area, La Mesa DO NOT USE Cape-Able Canines for Doggy care Located at 8150 Commercial St, San Diego We boarded our Boy Diego for 8 Days under their "Luxury Boarding" option. We filled out all the forms they provided with typical Q&A as to how much food, how often, favorite treats, any feeding rituals, favorite toys, health conditions, daily routing. Etc. etc. etc... When we picked up Diego, he was brought out to us with his butt and legs covered in dog poop, I realized this when he jumped on me with excitement, it was a strong smell. The Owner Michelle says "Oh, I'm sorry I didn't notice, would you like some paper towel to wipe him of" Seriously!!! (Check the pet you're boarding to make sure they are ok to be received by their owners before pick up?) When we got home, we immediately bathed him, he was truly stinky and VERY dirty. It was then that we noticed an open sore on his left elbow, covered with what appeared to be gum at the time, but then realized it was crusted up blood with dirt. After cleaning him carefully, we found a medium size sore. At this point we became concern and upset; we didn't know what this was. We took pictures and sent it to Michelle asking for additional information to better understand what could have cause this. She replied stating he had it when he arrived; NOT! When we filled out his health condition on the form, we listed no issues because he was thoroughly examined prior to being dropped off as well as groomed, cleaned for the stay in her home. Michelle stated she's been treating it and cleaning it! Yet, she never mentioned to us anything about this sore when we picked him up. During pick-up, we asked if there were any issues or abnormality with Diego during the stay as well as how was his behavior. She said "All good" no details, a really short conversation. At home, when we started to empty his travel bag, everything we placed in it; his favorite treats, his toys, his vitamins ALL where intact, clean and exactly how we packaged it! None of it was used. When I emailed her stating how upset we were and utterly disappointed in the lack of care she provided for our boy Diego, her response was this, and I quote "I am so sorry you feel that way. Diego is a great dog. I wish you all the best moving forward". I followed up with an email requesting to have a telephone conversation with her. We wanted to provide feedback on our experience vs. her "Luxury Boarding" interpretation. She has not responded to our emails; not return our calls and we are not able to reach her. She completely dismissed us. This is a good example of PROFIT over proper care. The worst customer service we have experience with Diego. I do not want anyone else to experience this. Do NOT USE !! We bring our doggie here regularly 2 days a week and it's true a tired dog is a happy dog. He loves going here and they are so good to him. It's a great place because it's leash free play during the day and they take a break for lunch from 12-2 but the rest of the time it's like he's at the dogpark all day and he's super happy when he comes home. It's does become a little expensive but it's better then having a puppy digging in the yard when we are at work. read more

I send my pup Emma to daycare here once a week. It has helped her get out some extra energy and socialize with other dogs. She was nervous her first day so the staff spent a lot of one on one time with her to help her transition. We also do the weekend classes and have seen huge progress! We completed the leash training course and are now starting general obedience. The trainers and daycare staff clearly love dogs and really care. I definitely recommend this place! read more

We've been taking our 10 year old black Lab (Miranda) to daycare at Cape-Able Canines for about two years now. Michelle runs the daycare and she is amazing! Just the mere mention of Michelle's name in our house and Miranda gets soo excited, she turns in circles and runs to her leash. She looks forward to every Thursday, as she wakes us up early. After we pick her up, she is grinning from ear to ear, and passes out for a few hours the minute she lays her head on her couch at home. (yes, she has her own couch). Being a lab, she has soo much energy. But daycare not only allows her to run around and play, but the socialization with other dogs has made all the difference. We started off with the training here with Aleita, which helped us a lot. We can take her down the street and she won't lunge or bark like a wild mountain dog at any other dog that crosses her path. She has really gained a ton of self confidence and its made our lives easier too. If anyone is looking for a daycare to take their dog, I would HIGHLY recommend Cape-Able canines. Not only do the dogs have a huge backyard with stuff to play on, but they have a second story in the building with couches the pups can relax on. And I am 100 percent at ease that she is well-cared for the times when she has spent the night. Years ago I took Dusty to Cape-Able Canines for training in Good Citizen and Therapy. He did well in both and we've had a wonder time at schools, museums, restaurants, department stores and malls, wounded warriors, local rodeos, senior homes, special needs children and adults and yesterday we were greeters at a Covid site in Clairemont Mesa. He can literally take him with me wherever I go and I feel secure in leaving him at home. I am currently trying to enroll two more pups (a chocolate lad and yellow lab) and we have two more who will just have to wait their turn. I highly recommend this class to anyone who has a dog to socialize, train it, and to increase obedience and responsiveness. Therapy is one step below service and all it requires is a simple explanation to businesses that the therapy dog has to ask permission. All you have to do is prepare yourself for rejection. I will sometimes call ahead or seek out an owner or manger to ask permission and I can't remember ever being turned away. Great program, great results. We have been bringing our 18 month old Goldie to cape-able canines since she was 10 weeks old. She enjoys her "puppy school" play days and comes home exhausted and smiling! She is our second Goldie to enjoy the services of this wonderful facility. So far, she has taken 3 classes and will continue in the near future. I have learned things about my dog Diggitty that I would never have learned without the proffesional training. People expect too much on puppy training and what they dont realize is the initial dog training is more for the handler than the dog. Excellent place to take your dog! My fiance and I moved to San Diego in Jan. 2011 because he was accepted into San Diego States Sports MBA program, a very intense 12 month program. I returned to school in April of 2011 and we were left with the fear of where to take our dog, Roma, while we were both gone during the weekdays. Now, our dog is a very sweet, loving dog but is her own breed within her breed as an Australian Blue Heeler. She has TONS and TONS of energy and can be a lot to handle at times. However, Michelle and the staff at Cape-Able Canines knew exactly how to handle our dog and built a strong relationship with her. Roma loved doggy daycare! This was the best place for her while my fiance and I were at school or taking trips where we might leave her with Michelle for extended periods of time. Michelle was more than happy to have Roma there, even when I felt bad leaving her. It was great to know that she loved Roma just as much as we do. We no longer take Roma there because we have relocated to Nashville, but we do miss Cape-Able Canines! Before we left San Diego to make the drive to Nashville, we had left Roma at Cape-Able Canines while we packed up and she was a little stressed out about the move. Michelle put us at ease by giving us instructions on how to make Roma's traveling much easier and to get her to feeling better. Great, great place! I'm glad that Jane and Michelle had positive experiences. I do find Michelle's comments a bit inappropriate and biased. No, I'm not a dog trainer or a competitor, but I've been a teacher for the past 16 years so I do a know a little about education. Maybe Michelle needs to reread my comments. I provided concrete examples of what I perceive were weaknesses in the class. As a consumer with past experience, I do believe I have the right to be critical of where my dollars go and after 3 weeks, I decided that this was not the right place for myself or my family. I would like to bring up one point for critical thinkers. There hadn't been one review since I posted mine. Then over 2 months later two new yelp users add theirs. The first refers to a "Michelle" as being in the employ of Cape-Able Canines and then Michelle L comes on and posts her comments while disparaging me. Having an employee 1) not make note that they work for the business 2) take a review of their business personally and 3) make derisive comments about the initial reviewer instead of responding to the criticsms within the review would make me question the validity of said review. read more

Odin is someone who doesn't trust everyone. For the most part, he will not extend his trust until he considers you a member of his "pack." So when my wife and I adopted Odin into our life - when he was a puppy, he was a bundle of energy. We took our first puppy training with Cape-Able Canines. I don't remember much from that training, except that Odin wouldn't pay attention to anything! When it came time to find a doggy daycare, both the wife and I agreed we would try Cape-Able Canines. We informed them of Odin's behavior, that he would tend to sometimes snap at people he didn't know. I was extremely nervous about getting that call, "Hey, your dog bit one of our coworkers, he cant' stay!" (It's like having a kid in Elementary School and getting that call!) To my surprise, we didn't get that call. But I waited - and as the days passed (we used to take him M, W, Fri) to wear out that Husky/Aussie Shepard energy he had. I noticed a change - he was actually excited to be there and excited to see Michelle and Jane. They worked with Odin and earned his trust. This to me, was amazing. It put me at ease and made me very thankful for having a crew that understood my concerns and took the time and patience to earn Odin's trust. YOU GOOD! C'mon! How does someone like this become a dog trainer hhhmmm? We paid 159.00 for the class and then were surprised with an additional 18.50 for a manual.
