Parking was not bad, even though we had to park on S.R.16 and walk in about a block and a half. I was a great, sunny, warm day for a little fun in the Capay Valley.

Farm fresh should work it out so the customer gets a text when their delivery is gonna arrive or about to arrive. That way people remember to edit their carts, and catch the delivery driver and bring the cold stuff in asap. The emails are fine but we don't check the email 24/7. Overall have used this service for about 4 years and I enjoy it. Helps keep me creative for dinners too.

I'm guessing they use that kind so it doesn't get all messy, especially since they keep them nice and hot all day and have them all wrapped and labeled individually. They've got a bunch of handmade candies, and all the fruit and produce looks so fresh! You should definitely make a stop and check out the pickle section. As the name implies, there are booths of produce sold my farmers, including fruits, vegetables, nuts, meats, cheeses, flowers, mushrooms.... Also, there are prepared foods from local restaurants, including hot dogs/sausages, tamales, dumplings, empanadas, coffee and more. Also present is booths for local art, education, politics (balanced) and "information" (in quotes because, in the spirit of balance, we have a booth for the Flat Earthers [personal comment: if the Earth was flat, cats would have pushed everything off by now]). Interactions are mostly easy-going and friendly, even the the occasional presence of some pretty forceful street preachers.

Street performers added musical entertainment. It's a neat stroll & a lot of people were out browsing & purchasing. Even though this is a cash only location which also provides two ATM machines inside, we can always find the needed necessities from fruit, to veggies, to flowers and you pick options. A pretty decent sized establishment, which is open every day of the week except on Wednesdays. They have a pretty decent sized parking lot and on the premises most of the time you'll find up to two food vendors. This time around I really enjoyed the flower picking option which you can get a very large bundle for five dollars then you can also visit outback of their establishment of the very large harvesting area of their crops. Lots of produce provided by lots of local vendors brought in by large bin loads.. This time, I also noticed that they have peanuts that you can pick from a bin inside as well. The best part of all is their pricing that is offered on their produce. Again, great location, surrounded by great wineries as well.

So I paid for a month in advance (you pay by check either by the month or the quarter) and waited for my first pick up. Fortunately there are a few options for picking up your box in Napa (check their website to see if there's one nearby you) including one only a mile away from our home. Yeah! The pickup location, at least in my area, is in someone's carport which is fairly typical of CSAs, thank goodness for volunteers. Just verify your pick up by signing the clipboard by your name, grab your box or unload it into your own bags (if you take the box return it in your next visit) then prepare to be wowed by the amazing produce. Each week is a little but different and changes along with the season. What's always in the box is the most beautiful organic produce I've ever seen. This weeks box had a bunch of gorgeous rainbow chard which was sautéed along with Fatted Calf sweet sausage served on top of Model bread with poached eggs. Best chard ever! I've posted a few pics of the last few boxes, judge for yourself, Riverdog Farm is amazing. It doesn't get any better than this. PS... They also raise organic fed hogs and chickens. Picked up my first pork share (delivered along with my regular box pick up) and the cuts look so tasty. Can not wait to braise the fresh hocks. I was pretty confident that I'd written about Riverdog in the past and was somewhat shocked to see that I praised only their eggs in my short initial review. Yes, the eggs are great, and everyone knows it. But I can make a long, long list of Riverdog products that consider to be top notch: green garlic, raw chickens, pork chops, carrots, daikons, asparagus tips, onions, black radishes, little gems when they're available, .... At the moment, their early girl and heirloom tomatoes are truly excellent. In recent weeks, I've gotten their squash and green beans -- excellent again, of course. Riverdog prices are not outrageous, in view of the high quality. Their wares merit a detour. The farmers (Trini and Tim) and their employees (shout out here for Becky) are all super-nice. Check them out!

This was the day we got them! We've waited almost a week for a response after emailing to ask if this was a one off. They were very responsive when I was ordering things. :( They say they pick produce at its ripest but I don't think this means as it is about to turn. The delivery set up is different each week. Sometimes a swap box, sometimes not, sometimes it's awkward to get your stuff, sometimes it's so easy! I won't continue when my subscription is up.
