We absolutely love picking things ourselves. Sure we could buy lavender at the store but there is something special about picking lavender with your own hands. Plus who doesn't love some beautiful pictures with these beautiful purple herbs? We visited the Cache Creek Lavender and went when they had their 2016 Lavender Festival. Lavender doesn't only attract people it also attracts bees and butterflies. Our little one at first was scared because everywhere we looked there were bees. The bees never noticed we were there, they were too busy enjoying the lavender nectar. During the festival we had a chance to enjoy some lavender ice cream, brownies, and tea. They had a fun craft table set up for those interested in turning their lavender into wands and other beautiful things. They also sold many lavender goodies and lavender plants. We really enjoyed the Native Bird Connectors presentation on rescued raptors. Cache Creek Lavender Farm is located at : 3430 Madrone Street, Ramsey, CA 95679. Call them at (530) 796-2239. They also offered a few recipes to take home with us for free. One of them was the lavender mint tea which we share below. We hope to make lavender picking our yearly tradition.

A quiet and beautiful farm! Not that big but big enough for U-pick People are nice and sweet. They have lots of food during lavender festival. They also provide free lessons about decorating your lavender bundle. $5 for a bundle of lavender.

Beautiful little family farm! I went for the annual Cache Creek Lavender Festival. The vendors were so much fun, I only wish that more accepted credit cards because I would have spent more for sure. People really seemed to be enjoying the craft table. The place was a bit hard to find - the only directory was a sullen teenager standing out in on the highway - he could at least have had a sign! I only wish the online advertisements were more clear about the pricing and cash-only nature of being able to harvest my own lavender...I would have been more prepared! Now that I know, I'll bring more cash next time!

    Such pretty lavender!

A few friends and I journeyed up north to visit Cache Creek Lavender Farm for their annual lavender festival in June. We definitely didn't know what to expect as none of us had ever been there before but overall it was a fun experience and would go again with a few notes in mind. The farm is small and family-run, but they have a great variety of lavender and gave talks throughout the festival explaining the history of the farm and the different kinds of lavender they grow. It was smaller than I expected: one food tent, one dessert tent, one beverage tent, a few tents selling lavender-related products, and one large craft-making tent. They also held craft-making workshops featuring lavender. It cost 5.00 to pick your own lavender, although they also sold pre-cut bunches (both fresh and dry). They accepted Visa for some things but other stands were cash only. I would definitely recommend bringing cash. They had free wine tasting and free lavender lemonade as well, which was great because it was HOT. Coming from San Francisco where it was maybe 70 degrees, I didn't expect it to be near the 100s and there was very little relief from a faint breeze. I wish I had brought something to fan myself, a hat, sunglasses, we even contemplated bringing parasols next time (and I definitely saw a few!). Luckily we remembered sunblock because the tours and the lavender picking were pretty much in the direct sun. They also didn't really have restrooms except for two port-a-potties on the property. But besides the heat and lack of facilities, we enjoyed perusing the various products for sale: lavender-scented soaps and creams and other items featuring lavender, as well as other natural products like olive oil and honey. I left with a new appreciation for lavender and a better idea for how to prepare for my next visit. Overall, I recommend it to anyone with an interesting in gardening, nature, or lovely scents!

I've been a Reviewer for a long time, and it takes a lot to truly blow me away, but my first trip…read moreto the Chico Farmers Market yesterday did exactly that. If you care about regenerative agriculture and nutrient density, this is the gold standard for Northern California. The absolute standout for me was MyHarvestValley.com . I'm a huge advocate for soil health, and their regenerative walnuts are a masterclass in what happens when you treat the land right. You can actually taste the difference, it's not just a snack; it's high-quality fuel. I ended up spending quite a bit of time there just appreciating the transparency of their process. Beyond the walnuts, the entire market is a treasure trove: The Meat & Produce: I was struck by the selection of properly raised meats and organic produce. Finding proteins raised with this much integrity is rare, and the variety of healthy eating choices made it easy to load up for the week. The Nursery Finds: I didn't expect to be scouted for my garden, but I saw some of the prettiest Japanese maple starts I've ever laid eyes on. The health and structure of those starts were stunning. The Vibe: It's rare to find a market that balances such a wide variety of specialty goods while maintaining that authentic, community-focused energy. This isn't just a place to shop; it's where you go to support the people doing the hard work of regenerative farming. I'm officially a regular.

Wonderful farmers market…read more EBT!!! First thing I have to mention, ebt is amazing here. Compared to Old Oakland farmers market which had a VERY long line for the ebt exchange. Over here, there was not a single line. The lady also explains to you how the ebt works but I can explain as well from what I understand. The lady will ask you how much you want to exchange, this is wherr I dont understand too much but she mentions a limit of 15$ and you can go over the limit but it goes over? Im not sure. I just did 15$. She gives you the device, you swipe, she gives you receipt and the coins.... AND some bills. Each coin and each bill is equal to 1 dollar. And idk if this was an accident but I swiped 15$, on my acc, lost 15$, but she gave me 15$ in coins AND 15$ in bills. So anyways, if this isnt a mistake, this means ebt gives you twice as much as you pay for in farmers market The bills as she explains it, only works on fruits and veggies. The coins work on anything that isnt a hot food. Lots of places to buy some fruits. Some places had a lot huge selection of heirloom tomatoes while some smaller selection. 2 stalls that sold figs. Of course no shortage of fruits and veggies over here For hot foods, tamale stall that also sold other dishes, burrito truck, empanada stall, They also have a coffee stall cause of course. Apparently people talk about chai tea, idk exactly where it is but I did see people walking with a light colored drink. The crowds arent as bad as people mention. I went on Saturday in the morning at 10am. Still a lot of people but as someone who's been to Shibuya Japan, its nothing at all. There are 4 long lanes to walk on and each surrounded by stalls I couldnt show it in the pic but I also bought a fruit danish for 5$ that I ate as I walked around. Absolutely delicious danish, the bread part was crispy outside but cheey inside. (Usually grocery stores danish can be more on the softer side) 5/5 ebt totally worth it

So I paid for a month in advance (you pay by check either by the month or the quarter) and waited for my first pick up. Fortunately there are a few options for picking up your box in Napa (check their website to see if there's one nearby you) including one only a mile away from our home. Yeah! The pickup location, at least in my area, is in someone's carport which is fairly typical of CSAs, thank goodness for volunteers. Just verify your pick up by signing the clipboard by your name, grab your box or unload it into your own bags (if you take the box return it in your next visit) then prepare to be wowed by the amazing produce. Each week is a little but different and changes along with the season. What's always in the box is the most beautiful organic produce I've ever seen. This weeks box had a bunch of gorgeous rainbow chard which was sautéed along with Fatted Calf sweet sausage served on top of Model bread with poached eggs. Best chard ever! I've posted a few pics of the last few boxes, judge for yourself, Riverdog Farm is amazing. It doesn't get any better than this. PS... They also raise organic fed hogs and chickens. Picked up my first pork share (delivered along with my regular box pick up) and the cuts look so tasty. Can not wait to braise the fresh hocks. Check their website for a complete list of pork share offerings.

I was pretty confident that I'd written about Riverdog in the past and was somewhat shocked to see that I praised only their eggs in my short initial review. Yes, the eggs are great, and everyone knows it. But I can make a long, long list of Riverdog products that consider to be top notch: green garlic, raw chickens, pork chops, carrots, daikons, asparagus tips, onions, black radishes, little gems when they're available, .... At the moment, their early girl and heirloom tomatoes are truly excellent. In recent weeks, I've gotten their squash and green beans -- excellent again, of course. Riverdog prices are not outrageous, in view of the high quality. Their wares merit a detour. The farmers (Trini and Tim) and their employees (shout out here for Becky) are all super-nice. Check them out!
