A long time went by, so I called and was told it was in the bay. More time went by, "a mechanic is looking at it. Finally, I got the call. Price of a rebuilt transmission, $2,300. Got it home, next day it wouldn't go backwards or forward. Had it towed at my expense (warranty doesn't cover towing). Again, the long wait. It worked okay for awhile, now it doesn't want to accelerate right away. DO NOT TRUST SHRUM'S.

He then told me I needed a completely new transmission. I went to Shrum's for a second opinion. The Mechanic there plugged in the computer and we took it for a ride. It turned out one of the spark plug leads had failed. That was it. I had Shrum's replaced the lead and spark plugs and that completely fixed it. I've taken my truck back to Shrum's for other issues and I've always been impressed by their service and their fairness in pricing.

I am also saying this from personal experience. I will NEVER buy a Subaru again as long as I live and especially any car from this dealership. When trying to replace the third engine due to another failed oil consumption test (brand "new" Subaru engines last 30,000-50,000 miles and yes, I change and check my oil regularly), the service manager, Chris, actually told me Subaru was trying to "sweep the failed oil consumption tests under the rug" and refused to cover a new engine. Subaru wouldn't either. So I paid for a new engine myself (had it replaced by another mechanic in town), sold the Subaru, and bought a brand new Toyota. Stick with Toyota or Honda and stay FAR away from Subaru if you want a car that you can count on for more than 50,000 miles. These guys know they are selling you a brand new lemon every single time. You've been warned.

We pulled off in Grand Junction and started making calls to find someone who could take a look, and hopefully get us back on the road within 24 hours as we were meeting up with friends for my wife's birthday. The problem with our plan was that it was 4:00 pm and every shop in town that I talked to said 'They were closing for the night, and that Grand Junction, being a small town, nobody would even look at our rig for the next 2 or 3 days'. That was, until I called Transwest Truck Trailer RV and talked to Marvin. Marvin told me that he would be working until midnight, and he would do his best to get someone to take a look at our rig, maybe not until morning as there were several jobs in the queue ahead of us, but he'd try. Well he didn't just try. He talked to Wil, one of the mechanics whose shift had just ended as we pulled in, and explained our situation. Wil clocked back in and was under our coach within half hour of our arrival. He determined the problem (bad air leveling rod bushing), rebuilt, and resecured it in under an hour and had us back on our way with barely a couple hours lost; and the cost was a lot less than it would have been at the Freightliner shop back home. I can't praise highly enough the care, courtesy, and professionalism shown us by Marvin and Wil. They went the extra mile for us and made sure our trip wasn't ruined.
