The Harvey House Cafe is a place to meet and to enjoy a casual old-fashioned setting almost like our grandmother's kitchen, where we decided on breakfast and dinner on our last full day. Upon entering, my partner and I were greeted by the host and were led to a table facing the parking lot decorated vibrantly with colored transom panels on the windows, exposed wood beams, and brightly colored mosaic tile work throughout. Seating is first-come, first-served. Their menu features breakfast, lunch, and dinner with an emphasis on diner-style cuisine. They are very popular for breakfast, for which we decided on the Harvey Skillet, Fruit Cup, and Harvey Breakfast. For dinner, we ordered the Harvey Salad with Chicken and Fish & Chips. The food was way better than expected for breakfast, using the freshest ingredients and well seasoned. The downside for dinner was that the Fish & Chips were very oily. Prices were not outrageous, especially given one is in a touristy area. Portions were healthy. Our server, Natalya, was attentive and friendly for breakfast. She went the extra mile to make sure our dining experience was special and memorable. The place was spotless--everything looked and felt clean, which is always a plus.

The ride there was BEAUTIFUL. We road along the rim, overlooking the Canyon the entire way. Breathtaking. (15 min e bikes ride from the Visitors Center to S. Kaibab.) From there we rode from S Kaibab to the Village where you can see the Canyon, with restairants and shops. For some, this could be enough to head back for your 2 hour journey If you have more time... We chose to keep going and we continued to ride from the Village and up to Hermits Rest. This was a 30 minute journey with several spots for scenic overlooks of the Canyon. At the top are Rest rooms and a spot for snack. We headed back to the Village (30 minutes back) and dropped our bikes at Bright Angel Lodge where Canyon Adventures picked them up. We boarded the train ON TIME! at 3:30pm. We did this journey in 3 hours on e bikes. ( we are in our 50's :) It was worth it! Such a fun adventure! It's not about how long it takes it's whether they're open, whether you beat the line, whether today's your day. After a long day in the canyon hiking, swimming, just soaking it all in coming back and getting something hot feels like striking gold. It's more than a meal; it's a brief return to civilization in a place that owes you nothing. You get good drinking water as well. The view out of the cafe is serene on one side and the other reminds of our past - a simple village with important amenities. I wish the vegetarian stuff were made separately without the incursion with meats because the hasbrowns smelled weird like they were cooked alongside the meats.

Not that it wasn't nice and the staff was friendly, I just was expecting more in terms of cushy furniture and/or cozy chairs. Also surprising is that they were not selling Grand Canyon Starbucks mugs--they would make a fortune on these! Seriously, how does every New York borough have one, but there isn't one for the amazing natural wonder just 15 minutes up the road? The bathroom break was much appreciated and my White Chocolate Mocha was on point, so despite the lack of accoutrement, it was still an overall pleasant and successful caffeine and rest stop!

I asked for coffee and she handed me a menu and she asked if I knew what I wanted to eat. I said I needed some time to look at the menu and she frowned and walked away without saying a word. It was obvious she thought I was going to be there a while and didn't want me sitting at the table long. She returned with the coffee and said "You know if it gets busy...." leaving the sentence hanging. I replied I would leave if it did (the restaurant only had maybe 3 tables full at that point, by the time I left at 640 there were two tables empty). After eating the food, which was quite good, I promptly packed up and left as soon as I could 25 minutes after being seated. I walked down to Brewed Awakenings, got a coffee there and sat down at my computer to do some work. In a small restaurant I totally understand that you need to keep tables moving so there is not a wait, but there is a polite and subtle way to message to a patron that they need to move along so other folks can sit down. You can deliver the check early, ask if you are finished, ask if there is anything else you need. Ways to communicate to a patron that they need the table. This was certainly not it. I eat out often, I tip very well, but I have to say this is the first time I felt unwelcome and rushed at a place in a very, very long time. While the food was good, this was not the way to start off day 2 of my roadtrip. In today's economy, making your customers feel like they need to eat and run, and doing so in a rude way, is a master class in how to make your restaurant fail. I do not recommend this place.
