Hadn't been to Canvas and Cocktails in a while and this was my first trip to the location in Park Meadows. As always, things are well organized from check-in, to getting supplies, to instructions on painting the creation of the night. Tonight's painting was Sorbet Sunset. Emma, our instructor, told us it was one of the easy ones. There was a lot of blending for the ombré effect of the mountains but she gave very clear directions. Perfect place for a teenagers birthday party! My daughter turned 15 and all she wanted to do was paint. We signed up for the free painting that is on the patio, only $25.00 for 3 hours of painting. A great time was had by all. No alcohol needed but it doesn't hurt either. You can paint whatever you like. Of course, there's the guided tour of the evening's picture. You'll have all the primary colors, white, and black. Knowing how to mix colors is helpful but they'll gladly help out if you're unsure. No fan brushes here so if you're a modern day Bob Ross, you'll need to bring your own. That one would've been useful for the happy little trees in our forest scene. This was my first time at Canvas and Cocktails. I went with some friends who had been here before. We had been wanting to go for a while, but on more than one occasion, by the time we identified a painting we wanted to do, and picked a date, the class was full. We showed up a few minutes early on a Saturday morning. Several people were already there, and a bunch showed up right behind us. It took a little while to get checked in. They showed us where we would be sitting, got us some smocks, dropped off brushes, and we waited for the class to start. It was pretty packed (lots of nice people). It was mostly a younger crowd than I expected, but there was a lot of positive energy. My one real criticism would be that with this many people, it was a little hard to get a good view of the subject material. As far as the rest goes, the staff was excellent. They were friendly, upbeat, and helpful. the instruction on the actual painting process was fine. The class included a free drink (mimosa, wine, or beer). I opted for the house Merlot and it was pretty decent. Extra drinks were only $3 for a healthy pour of wine, or $2 for a Coors Light (other beers may have been a bit more). All in all, I had a great time, and was happy with the instruction we received. And, I think my painting turned out pretty good as well. read more

My mom and I finally tried Canvas and Cocktails this past weekend and we loved it! For $35 we got a two hour step by step painting class (all supplies included), a free mimosa, and a great time full of music, singing and just fun! Plus you go home with your painting! We did the Southglenn location because my mom really liked the painting they were doing Saturday AM. It is a huge shop (I had no idea) and it has tons of parking outside since it is part of the shops of Southglenn. We ended up getting to the place 15m early and boy am I glad we did. It was SO packed I was a little nervous that it wasn't going to be a great experience. The normal class also included a bachelorette party, red hat society party and 2 birthdays all in it! There must have been 60 people there and it really backed up the check in (it was out the door!!). We got sat at a "bistro" table way back by the bar. Nice because it was intimate (2 seats set apart from the main lines of tables), but really far back from the instructor. Still, as we started to paint it ended up being easy to follow and the instructor has a mic, so we could hear just fine. If you learn by sight however, I would sit closer, you definitely are set back at the bistro tables. As everyone has said, you go in and think - how in the heck am I going to paint that - and by the end you have this semi-masterpiece you can't believe you painted. It is so much fun! We really liked it and would do it again. We had considered doing a party here, until we saw that they basically just group you in with everyone else. I might quit my job cause I'm a fantastic painter... Okay I kid. Came here for an organized girls night not knowing what to expect...except fun since everyone raves about this place. For $35 you get your own canvas, unlimited blobs of paint colors, use of their easel, paint brushes, and apron. You just show up with a smile and some cash in hand for $3 beers/wine. There picnic table seating for the painters while the instructor stands on a stage in front of the class. She teaches you step by step how to recreate the painting of the night. At first I was skeptical that mine would come out looking like a "denver sunset" but by the end of the night it actually looked...good. Not only was she very detailed on her "how tos" but she played upbeat pop music while we got our paint on. Other than a few drunk dudes that were there it was a fabulous time. You get to spend about 2.5 hours there with your friends and feel like an artist by the time you leave! By the way, we enjoyed C and C at their southglenn location. I'm not artistically inclined like my siblings and I was hesitant to show how poorly of a painter I was, but had so much fun. Kazan was our instructor and Claire was her right hand woman that night. We painted a landscape of the Denver city line. What's neat is that everyone follows the same steps and process but ends up looking so different from one another. I think it's quite unique how each of us thinks differently and sees a painting in a different light. SO MUCH FUN!!!!! If you have never been before then you must go!!! Excellent place for a girls night out or a birthday. I come here with my girlfriends at least every couple months and I have an entire collection of paintings hanging on my wall. This location gets super crowded on the weekends but that doesn't bother me. It's $40 on the weekends, on Sunday night it's $25 and some of these other days they charge $35. They do also offer a free glass of wine or mimosa on certain days, make sure you check the calendar on their website. The instructors are very energetic and funny. They play loud music and it's just an amazing time all together! You can win a free class while you are there as well. I love it that they don't rush you! This is a neat place with a lot of character of its own. You can make your experience what you want it to be. Paint in the lines, or go outside of the box. There's a really good instructor who will walk you step by step of what you should to in order to recreate your very own painting of the original they are teaching you from. It's completely up to you if you want to follow them completely, just a little or go your own way. There are a ton of people in each session and you meet some fun and interesting people along your adventure if you choose. If you need a little liquid courage to help you loosen up to paint, they can get you that too from the bar. Prices seemed reasonable, but I really wasn't in a drinking mood so my free Mimosa with the session was enough for me. There is a small gift shop as well where you can find unique gifts before, during and after your session is complete. It's a great way to waste some time if you arrive early or want to linger a bit for the paint to dry. I made a lot of discoveries on our adventure to Canvas and Cocktails. My Discoveries 1: I can paint a background like no one's business 2: Paint and Mimosa do not mix (together in the cup OOOPS!!!) 3: I can make the Eiffel tower look like a Pagoda 4: NONE of my Grandmothers artistic ability was passed down to me. 5: I like paint by numbers It was a fun 2 1/2 hours and could be a fun for the family event for sure. I know there are lots of companies who have variations of names for drinking alcohol and painting. Since this was my first time at a place like this, I can't compare this places to other places, but I can share my experience here. We came as a group for a friends birthday. We were pretty nervous about the whole experience because I have friends who went and posted pictures of their amazing paintings, and I was afraid my painting was going to turn out to be a disaster. However, that wasn't the case at all. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I didn't even have to explain it was my first time here. Once they greeted you at the door, someone showed me to the register where the cashier asked if this was my first time and made friendly small talk. Once I paid, they lead you over to their bar area where you can pick your free drink. Ours was on a sangria day but if you didn't want a sangria they wouldn't substitute it out for you. Once you got your drink, they led us over to another staff who showed us to our seats and told us to get an apron and how many pumps of each color of paint to get. Even though our big group RSVP separately/ as small groups and not as a big group, they were still nice enough to seat is all together. Once your settled in, grabbed your paint, apron, and drink, we still had time to wander around and socialize or look at other painting hung on the wall before the class started. Once we started, the instructor explained the brushes we were using and how to identify them apart, and took is step by step on how to draw a beautiful painting with simple lines and geometric shapes. If we didn't want the picture to look exactly like the demo, we were free to add/ subtract/ substitute colors, or even improvise however we wanted. It was a very casual and comfortable environment with extremely friendly staff. I had a wonderful experience and had a lot of fun. And the best part? LOVE THIS PLACE! I've done a number of paintings with Canvas & Cocktails and it's always a good time. I do prefer this Southglenn location to Cherry Creek - closer to home, easier to park, and (most of the time) not as crowded. Did the Venice painting yesterday morning. Our instructor was fantastic! It was the first time I had done a class with her and I really wish I could remember her name. She walked us through every step, stepped aside so we could see what she was doing, and adjusted her pace to ensure we were all with her. Already looking forward to going again in October for another mimosa morning (there really is no better way to start the day). As usual...I loveeeed this place! Painted the Moonlight Tulips painting a couple weeks ago for a mimosa morning with a good friend of mine who had never been here! She loved it! Fun, fun, fun! Paintings range from $25-$40 for the painting. If you go to their website you can see what they are teaching for the day or night and call in or make your reservation on their site. My sister and I had a date day there for the first time and definitely are not painters of any sort. Our instructor was very good at describing what and how to mix the colors, brushes to use, how to do it all... you can follow them exactly or do your own thing. The world is literally your canvas and you paint however you like! In between instruction she turns on music ... and I have to say, it is very relaxing and did I mention fun?? We went during family time and it was fun to see how the kids translate their paintings. Reminds us to just let loose! Arrive early to check in so you can sit where you want, too because the class fills up super fast. Good reminder is to wear something you don't mind getting paint on and purses wise, a purse you don't mind getting paint on. They provide apron, easel, canvas, brushes, unlimited paint. I went to a South Denver canvas and cocktails event this summer that was Lion King themed, because of course, who doesn't love Lion King? It was actually such a popular event that it booked up before any of my friends could join so I actually went to the event alone, but I absolutely loved it! The teacher was great and clear with her directions and she made a point to check on each of us frequently to see how we were doing. She made the class really fun by playing Lion King soundtrack music the whole time! I have gone to this location several times for a girls night out. There's plenty of places to eat before the glass begins and since it's all in the shopping area we usually walk from dinner to Canvas and Cocktails and then back to our car. There is plenty of parking but you should be there no later than 15 or 29 minutes before class so that you can peacefully prepare for painting. If you are not artistically gifted simply follow the instructions and drink more wine! It's about the process not the product! Some of my paintings hang on my walls and others I have left for them to dispose of properly . I feel the price could be a bit more affordable but at the same time it's worth it to do something fun and different. You can paint what the instructor is painting or go rogue and create your own thing! Every instructor I've had has been upbeat and very good at explaining how to create a masterpiece. Honestly, she made it SO much fun and I would come back just to have her teach me again. I don't drink and it was still a blast for my husband and I, and we're both far from what we could consider "artists". You also don't have to follow the directions at all and can change up the colors if you want to, etc -- the emphasis was on having fun! I decided to update my review based on my most recent experience. Two of my girlfriends wanted to do a girls night at Canvas and Cocktails. Because I hadn't been there in over a year and I adore my girlfriends, I agreed. Unfortunately, my previous review still stands! It's too crowded. It's a terrible place to socialize because of the layout and the loudness of the instructor. The paintings are still bad. The prices are still incredibly high for what you get. What actually irked me this time was after spending $40 on no more than $8 worth of materials and $2 on a $0.25 can of Diet Coke, they verbally requested tips. Twice. There were over 60 people in the store that night. The "tuition" alone brought in BANK for this store... and that doesn't include all the liquor they sold. I get that people may want to leave tips-- I did at the bar-- but don't request that people leave tips. That is so incredibly tacky. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. read more

Had a really fun time. This is an awesome place for a first date - there's a fun activity, there's time to talk, and you can split a bottle of wine! I came for Mimosa Morning and we painted Red Trees (or in my case, they turned out to be red flowers - but that's what I was going for). The space is very large and open with high ceilings, but overall, this equates to a certain coldness. They were set up for about 50 painters and there was only about 20, so maybe it was more of an empty feeling than anything. There is a retail area filled with stuff to peruse, and they are sure to remind you of it when you have a 10-15 min break to let your painting dry. With admission, we received a mimosa and it was tasty even though I only had 1 - not sure of the cost for extra glasses. The instructor did a good job explaining what to do, added a bit of humor to her demo and kept the music at a good background level. Overall, I would pick Sipping & Painting over C&C because of proximity to home and general vibe BUT I did have a great time at C&C, would be willing to try the one in Cherry Creek and think it is cool that my canvas was larger here than Sipping & Painting. read more

Everything was great, we had a lot of fun. I was contacted like 3 times before our painting date about who I wanted to sit with, and the first time they called they had us down for the wrong day. My friend signed up separately from myself so there were only two of us. For larger groups they put names on the tables, for parties of 1 or 2 they just put a number on the seat. It's like, okay thanks for the reminder that I'm by myself and just a number... Also, they sell some really cute items in the store, but not in a huge variety of sizes so unless you are size small or medium they probably already sold out of whatever dress you might have liked to buy. Finally, I guess I should have put more thought into what I was wearing, it would have been nice to get a reminder from the staff prior to arriving. I wasn't expecting the place to be so jam packed with people, which was cool but on the downside less room to move around means a higher chance you'll make a mess of yourself. Last night for my birthday, some friends and I crashed Canvas and Cocktails in the Southglenn complex. I had so heard so much about it, and it was about time to put my brush to the canvas and see what it was all about. Also, we were celebrating my birthday. You guys, it was so much fun. Like, the most fun EVER.You come in the door, and it's like walking into a party. The energy is up, the music is blasting and there is a huge line at the bar. There is ALWAYS a huge line at the bar. You check in, pay and are given a handful of brushes. They have names; baby brush, round brush, big brush. Yeah, it's pretty self-explanatory. You can pick all different kinds of painting, depending on their schedule. My friends met me there, all dressed in their aprons - ready to paint the town. Or a canvas. I pulled on my apron, tied it, sat down. My friend looked over at me. "You should get a new apron." "Why?" "Because your apron has a penis painted on it." Indeed it did, at the bottom, just in the perfect spot.My friends proceeded to pee in their pants laughing while I switched aprons. The class was absolutely packed, and everyone was in the mood to party. We were painting a replica of Van Gogh's Starry Night. I was intimidated by it. We lined up, got our 3 squirts of paint and got ready to create a masterpiece. The instructor (who was possibly the most bombastically cheery person on earth) began with basic instructions for painting. "Okay ladies...you are going to start with a little black and a little blue. Does everyone have wine? Yes? Whoooooo!!" (Tons of women raise and wave their paint brushes in the air like we are at a rave). Then, we paint. It's relaxing and soothing and hilarious. People are standing up and dancing in the aisles to "Party Rock Anthem." It's weird and awesome at the same time. One of things that I found amazing is that even though we were all following the exact same directions with the exact same colors, our paintings were SO different. My friend used purple in hers so that it would match a certain room in her house. I loved that idea.I didn't veer to far from the instructions, but I did try to add a certain yellow glow that radiated out from the right side of my stars and moons. That made it a little different, at least. The wine helped mix it up, I think. I can't even capture it, but it was SO fun. It took about two hours and by the time we finished I was flush with the pure passion of painting. I had missed it so much - the smell of the paint, the feel of the brush against the canvas, the smear of yellow paint on my face. Sure, it was kind of like painting-by-number, but I don't care. read more

Here is a tip for my family, my friends, and most of all my husband. For every holiday and special event, I want to go here. I just love Canvas and Cocktails. It really taps into the artist that I think is buried deep (very, very deep) inside me. Though my paintings rarely end up great enough to grace my walls, the entire process is fun! From the moment I walk in and put on that painter's apron - I am an artist! I enjoy mixing up my colors and going rogue by not following directions -- which is totally encouraged here. My paintings aren't masterpieces, but I am still darn proud of them all. They all look better after a few glasses of wine, but isn't that true about everything? So in short, I love this place. I got more paint on me from my next door neighbors than on my canvas. It's obvious they are out to make a lot of money in one night and they did that night!
