I tried the beginner series that they offered at a great price, just so I could get a chance and feel for Capoeira and to see if it would be something I'd like to join. I've previously done Muay Thai at a popular gym in boulder, and was looking for the family feel with Canto Do Galo. The classes were good, I learned some moves and kicks, and also learned about the culture of Capoeira and the music as well. I came into this class wanting to learn about the martial arts aspect of it and I felt that I did get some of it, but the music portion was part of the class as well, which I didn't care too much for. The classes would run late almost all the time, so that was a bit frustrating, but I understand. I think the one big reason I decided not to join Canto Do Galo is because it didn't feel like a community to me and some of the students seemed to take things too seriously. Some of the higher ranking students would often times critique my technique and would act as the teacher rather then just offering to help or show how to do it. I appreciated the instructors, but this wasn't right for me. read more
