Unprofessional. Not responsive. Take on too many jobs and can't service their clients.

They send me an invoice for $1442 for an electrician to remove only 11 spotlights which took him 15 minutes to do so in total! This company is a rip-off and does whatever it takes to milk you. My honest advice is never to try them at all, you will regret it. read more

If you see any more than one stars it is a family member or a friend or a worker at Canstar doing a review trust me , if it's already too late and you're reading this I feel sorry for you we feel your pain ! If the insurance company sends can star to your House Call a third-party before they get there or right after because these guys are snakes Cover your butt the best you can because these guys are slimy slime slime ! Ditto to all the bad reviews. This company took over from a previously fired restoration co. for water damage but turned out no better. Missed appointments, no communication, ordered expensive scaffolding erected then no shows for days then finally told them after 5 weeks your fired and not paying for un used scaffolding..you dropped the ball..so sad. Too many bs excuses, so busy with the bad storm, boss away on holidays etc. read more

Terrible service. They lie and can not trust. I don't recommend anybody. Don't sign any authorization documents. I made big mistakes. read more

I just have a similar experience as Darlene C and Cindy J.. They also exaggerated the problems and tried to max out your insurance claim. The guy didn't show up and called in sick the very last minute. Unfortunately, we have to get stuck with them because of our Strata. I am sure how they can be in business and avoid them if you can. read more

Horrible company. Service is awful. They lie and cant be trusted. Do not use them.

Canstar Restorations were hired through my insurance agency after a massive basement flood occurred due to a toilet tank busting. Canstar weren't the original guys that we hired, however, we wish we did hire them. They were hired after we fired another restoration company due to inefficiency (ironically they don't have a Yelp profile). Their quote for the restoration was at least 20% cheaper than the other company's. On top of that Canstar had to fix the errors that the other company made. They moved along smoothly where the other company failed at. Appointments were consistently made and confirmed by the office. When they arrived they were very professional and courteous. This whole thing has been a headache for almost 4 months now due to the inefficiency of the previous restoration company and these guys made it all better for us. There were a few hick ups that should be mentioned, however, not life altering the change my review. Canstar hire sub contractors to do certain jobs. They did not communicate with their flooring guy the appointment time. The flooring guy ended up on our doorstep 2.5 hours early with no one home. I really felt bad for him. Communication between Canstar and their flooring sub contractor needs to be improved 'cause 2.5 hours is a huge time difference than what was actually scheduled and confirmed. This wasted their sub contractors time. If I were the sub contractor I would be pissed. I repeatedly asked my insurance adjuster for the scope of work, total of 4 times between my dad and I, however, we never got that scope of work nor our request acknowledged by our insurance adjuster. I called Canstar and got the scope of work, which we as the home owners are legally entitled to, received within 30 minutes. They were able to work with out schedule. read more

We had a small leak near the window just before x-mas (water running down the wall but caught before it got too big) during a storm. My insurance broker called Canstar that night to bring the fans and investigation. I was told the fans would be picked up soon, but they never called back, and the case dragged on to new years. They "mistakenly told the insurance company our roof was leaking" bcz they had 11 other homes with leaks and got the houses mixed up, never sent the report they promised, and presented us with a grossly inflated bill of $1900 for what should have been an over night fan rental fee, plus drywall cutting. They claimed it was the building exterior first on a far away unrelated wall (water test proved later proved otherwise) They charged us additional days of fan rentals although they are the ones who didn't call or pick it up. Because we have young children and they made it sound like we might get mold we agreed to cutting out the drywall. My house is from late 80s and required an asbestos test, and was told to call them myself to void the fee. However, they charged for $50 phone call to the asbestos company although I was the one who called the company as we could not get the person to come to our house after the first day. They grossly inflated the hours charged - the 5 minute drop in to pick up the fan was charged for 2 people for 2 hours of work each. What should have been maximum 1.5 hours of emergency person, asbestos fee, drywall removal (which I was told would be $350 or so) and 1 day of fan rental is now over $1900. These guys are crooks. They say anything to the insurance company as the cause of the leak, never call/show up for their equipment and charge you extra for the days of rental/grossly inflated their hours/send reports for the wrong house. No wonder there are reports of insurance companies not insuring BC. These crooks over charge and scammed the system. They ruined x-mas, and now threatened collections on us based on bogus charges during these difficult times of the covid-19 scare. I have raised the issue multiple times with the adjuster and the GM and they offered $490 off, which is still too high for what was done. Today we get the original invoice (not even the adjusted amount) with threats of interest and collection when they did not even properly invoice. STAY well away. I have spoken with the insurance broker to never recommend Canstar again, and will be following up with the insurance company as well. read more

Did a great job with a recent flood in my neighbourhood. The teams were punctual and worked quickly. Would totally recommend them for restoration serves again. read more

They over promise and under deliver. Schmoozed me to get the insurance contract (flooded home ) and promised weekly emails. Not one email... we were supposed to move back into the house in June.....my adjuster finally forced canstar to get to work and let us in 3 months later..... carport was full of building garbage, no laundry or vacuum hooked up. The worst part was after we moved in and noticed big deficiencies in walls. Poor mud jobs that cracked and OUTLET HOLES CUT TOO BIG FOR THE THE OUTLET COVERS, Who does that? Their fix was some mud but screws didn't hold covers in place and they'd pop out when you plugged and unplugged something. I could go on and on, poor/messy painting, unfinished baseboards, unprimed walls...... etc. I felt like a scolding mother as I had to constantly demand things be done (again) correctly. Never ever signed off their work and just gave up after 14 months of what was supposed to be a 5 month job. They're off the hook cause I sold my house.... I kinda think their managers are overworked and can't get ahead cause they are always putting out fires at various jobs. They are all polite when they do finally respond, but I'm sorry.... that's not good enough.... I need timely quality! Thank god for the flooring subcontractor....he was fabulous! read more

Our upstairs neighbour left her sink running which flooded our unit. Unfortunately, three insurance companies (ours, hers and the Strata's got involved). Our insurance company used Precision Restoration (flooring) but the Strata's insurance company used Canstar (ceilings & walls). The difference between the two companies was like night and day. Precision was professional, organized and first rate. Canstar, not so much. Our experience was so disappointing that when the Strata renews our annual insurance coverage they will be going with an insurance company that doesn't not use Canstar. read more

If I could give this company a no star review, I would. This is the worst restoration company ever. Our condo building had a water burst and the water went into our unit. Our strata hired them to fixed our unit and a couple others that had water damage. The manager of the project told us it would take 6-8 weeks to fix everything. They removed our carpet and flooring and left everything as it was for 2.5 months. We had to call them every week to try and push for someone to come in to do any work. When their workers finally came in to do some work, they only did 1-2hrs max of work a week and left. They removed all our toilets to do the flooring and then never reinstalled them back. We were without toilets for 1 week and had to go elsewhere to stay temporarily. When we complained to the project manager, he said he thought his worker had put the toilets back and had no idea they didn't finish the job properly. In the process of them fixing our flooring, their workers did some damage to our walls and never fixed it. The work they did could have been done in a week yet they dragged it on for 3.5 months. I wish no one the hell that we had to go through with this company. Beware and stay away! read more

Canstar was brought in initially after water damage. They were contracted to replace the flooring in my apartment. The project didn't start well when they didn't show up on the first day. They blamed on the insurance not getting back to them for moving the content. Although they had many weeks to contact the insurance company they left it to 2 days before the project started. At no point did they contact to let me know of the delay or scheduling changes. This left me rushing to make arrangements for the kennels and hotel stays. This issue of not communicating continued through out the project. The project was supposed to take 10 days, it took 5 weeks. On a weekly basis, I didn't know whether I could move back into my apartment. I had to hound the project manager to get any response to know if I had to extend my stay in the hotel. The lack of communication and organization caused undue stress and was very unprofessional. Additionally, during the project they used my personal towels to move around appliances. They broke numerous items and didn't return my keys after completing the project (I still don't have them!). I was disappointed that there was not a sign off of the work. The work that was completed was not of high caliber. read more

This review is for Canstar's Whistler, BC operations, where we dealt with Frank G. Be weary - these guys are crooks. We hired them after a water leak resulted in substantial mould damage. We were told the project would take approximately 4 weeks, however, 4 weeks in nothing had been done other than commercial fans set up and running for this entire time period. Furthermore, their incompetent staff sawed through a load bearing wall joist, causing additional damages. They used the wrong mould remediation product, and according to a third party contractor who came and checked out Canstar's work after we fired them 2 months into the project, they sprayed less than 50% of the affected surface in the crawl space. Unfortunately they had already received 50% of the payment, with 50% due on completion. Considering additional damage was done, and the entire project had to be redone by another contractor, paying any money to Canstar was too much. Again, be weary. Unfortunately a few insurance companies hire these guys by default, so you may not be able to avoid them. There are far better options out there!! read more

this is my first time to write review for company. very bad service. never on time. they can't even put the base wall properly! Im done to argue with them. im done to trust them. im done to give them 5th chance. Ps. you don't call someone the night before and expect someone to be the house at 9am. OH and YOU don't even show up at 9AM? funny. please respect. read more

BEWARE dealing with this company. They came to my house six times and managed to put tap on the walls to mark out what needed repairing. After 15 consecutive attempts to contact the company were unsuccessful and seven months passed I had another company come and repair my water damage. Finally after nine months passed I received a bill for several hundred dollars. Canstar Restorations did not do any work to repair my water damage and billed me...BEWARE read more

Canstar was recently selected by my insurance company to help deal with a flood in my apartment. The techs/project manager responded quickly and were happy to answer all of my questions as someone new to emergency water damage and insurance claims. They were flexible when I decided to cancel my insurance claim and deal directly with them, and even reduced my invoice as I wouldn't have kept the equipment so long without an insurance claim. I really appreciate the effort and flexibility on their part. Thank you & please don't hesitate to use them for your own service. :) read more

Canstar was hired after a fire in my condo. It has been a truly awful experience. Canstar initially told me that I was making a false claim over 3 area rugs. They later "found" the rugs but didn't let me know. They told the insurance company it was ready to be reoccupied on Dec 15. At this point, the front door had been put in backwards, it was missing a set of blinds, a globe on a kitchen light was missing, the faucet in the bathroom was leaking and the sink needed caulking. The items were't corrected until the end of Jan. Extremely poor communication (virtually nonexistent) read more

The upstairs washer flooded my suite on December 4 and Canstar was hired by the insurance company. December 5 they brought in the blowers, dehumidifiers, removed laminate and measured for new flooring. December 12th they removed the drywall ceiling in two rooms, unhooked the light in one of them. Dec 14the they had to come back to measure the floor upstairs- didn't do it on the 5th. They removed the blowers and dehumidifiers on the December 14th and that was the last we heard until Jan 12th when they started to replace the ceilings which were completed on Jan 20th. Nothing happened until January 31st when they completed the flooring and they returned on Feb 10th to finish the baseboards. They never returned to hook up laundry sink, the ceiling light or screw in the smoke detector. 3 1/2 months later we had someone else hook up the sink and a friend has screwed in the smoke detector last week. He will also be doing the light but needs some parts to complete so will need to come back to do that. There is no way a small restoration should have taken this long. I have no complaints with the company that installed the floors, and the contractor they used to do the ceiling did a great job but this job could have been completed in a much shorter time frame. You figure the ceiling was completed two months ago so I'm not sure why the electrician was in Jan to hook up a light and screw in the smoke detector! read more
