CanRestoration was the worst painting contractor I've ever worked with. I highly suggest looking elsewhere. Your project, your wallet, and your peace of mind will thank you. There are too many negative things to list. The owner Antwan Cannon requires a 50% deposit which is excessive. The contract says you will pay the balance upon completion, but he asks for money several times before the time is even close to being complete. He will also try to nickel and dime you and tack on extra charges, even for things that are included in the contract.
As far as the work, it was horrific. I fired CanRestoration during the project because the work was so bad and they were not fixing the problems that I had pointed out. They had multiple opportunities to correct their work but they refused to do what I had asked. I had to hire new paint contractors to come in and finish and/or correct the work that CanRestoration was contracted to do. First of all, they didn't even prep properly. They did not cover anything, which led to them getting paint all over my newly refinished floors and door hardware. They did not prep the walls at all by doing any needed sanding, patching, taping, etc, even though it was included in the contract. They literally painted every surface exactly as it was, even stuff that still had dust/dirt on it.
Every surface they painted looked bad. They did not paint straight lines, especially around wood trim. Most of their painting was streaky where it had horizontal or vertical roller streaks up and down the walls. They only painted one coat on most of the surfaces that were contracted to be painted twice. They were lazy and only cut in once at the tops and bottoms of walls... the faded streaks are quite obvious. They also skipped out on painting some things entirely, such as some of my doors and both my interior and exterior shutters. They also skipped out on painting behind any appliance. On my front door, Antwan was supposed to sand it and apply a gel stain. However, Antwan was too lazy and did not sand the door. So after he "finished" the door, all of that stain just flaked right off within a couple days and you could see that it was never sanded. It was still very shiny with the old finish. Antwan initially lied to me and told me that he did sand the door, but then later admitted to me that he didn't. Antwan also claimed that he painted my basement floors and walls with "two or three coats" as agreed, but that was a lie too. The basement floor only has one thin coat and began peeling off within days of being painted. As for the walls, I could still see all the old coloring on the wall. Because it only has one thin coat of PRIMER, not even real paint. Antwan did the same thing on my garage walls and then when I called him out for it, he tried billing me extra for labor and paint. My basement ceiling also looked terrible. It's original wood that I paid to have painted dark gray, but I could still see large patches of original wood everywhere. He did a very poor job spraying.
I also have a large window well that was supposed to be painted white. Well it looked terrible when he was done and it was definitely only painted with one coat. I could still see some original wood and so much streakiness. He claimed to me that he had painted FOUR coats, at no additional charge. I asked him how it could possibly still look so terrible then and he said because he should have primed it before painting it. So then why didn't he? As a self-proclaimed professional painter with 30 years of experience, how do you paint something incorrectly four times and then never bother to do it correctly? On my exterior painting work, they left several contracted areas unpainted and I paid them to paint just the brick, but they got white paint all over the concrete foundation and it was very sloppy. I asked them to try to clean the concrete, but they never even bothered. Overall, dealing with CanRestoration was a miserable experience and they have poor business practice. They are lazy, sloppy, and unprofessional. Probably their worst quality is that they lie about the work they do and do not come close to meeting contractual obligations. read more
