Well if it tells you what type of time I had I went out 2 weeks later and bought a kayak. We even went back down the Caney after I had my own set up. This river route is nice, but the operation is complete and utter CHAOS. We had reservations for 10AM, arrived for check in at 9:50. We waited for TWO HOURS only to be informed that the route that we were taking was 20 miles west, back towards Nashville to launch. We live in Nashville so we ended up going a total of 40 miles out of our way just to launch, on top of waiting just as much time to get on the river as it is to get down it. Once we finally got on the water a little after 12, it was an OK float, but definitely not worth that wait and driving all over the damn place. When we got to the end pickup point, we waited another near 45 mins to get picked up to go 3 miles back to our car. Absolutely awful, especially considering there are so many other great places to go kayaking in the area. This place needs to get it together, especially with the prices we pay for your services!!!!!!! Worse kayaking/canoeing company in the area that we've experienced so far. We came here last year and had a similar experience, but decided to try it one more time. I will continue to call until I'm able to speak to someone in charge. NEVER AGAIN will I use this company and I do not recommend to anyone who is trying to have a decent, relaxing few hours on the river. read more

Not worth it. Last two reviews are very accurate. Customer Service wasnt great from everyone. Received an unnecessary attitude from a bus driver. Very chaotic and unorganized. There was no where to stop on the river. This was a closer company we wanted to try but would rather drive 30 extra minutes to other locations! For sure wont be going back. read more

We had a great trip with this company. They take you right to the drop off point and pick you up at the end to take you back to your car. Bring a swimsuit because you can take a dip in the water and if you forget anything, their store supplies it. Bring plenty of water! I highly recommend taking this little river adventure! read more

I was a bit apprehensive after reading the negative reviews, but I went yesterday with my daughter. From the check in process to getting to where we launched was smooth. They explained everything I needed to know as a first time kayaker with my 14 year old daughter. We launched and it was absolutely beautiful. We did the 9 mile trip. The staff was awesome and even helped a mom and daughter that were stranded on Betty's Island. The mom and daughter weren't customers and not the responsibility of Canoe the Caney, but they still helped which was nice. That was a scary situation, but the staff didn't hesitate. I will definitely do this again. It was, to me, expensive for 2 people ($105), but I would do it again. Only thing I didn't see was a place to stop and have a picnic. Not sure where you can do that. The pick up points could have been better marked (like a flag or something), but the staff was there waiting so it wasn't missed. Such a fun time. read more

OVERPRICED!!! Please check out other places to rent!! We originally had reservations at Canoe Music City but the Harpeth river water levels were too high. Caney fork river is actually a little closer to my house so that was a plus. This place looked promising. They had a trolley and nice shuttle buses. Now I see why it's so nice. They charge almost double than other rental places. My husband and I spent almost 100.00 just for the two of us!!! The flimsy backrest were an extra 5.00 each and the one way trolley ride was an extra 3.00 each. When we finally got back, the pirate was offering 'free' stuff if you post a good review on Yelp or Google. Never again would I come back and recommend this place. The Caney Fork river is a very nice and scenic float and I would love to come back and canoe. I would definitely go with another company next time. read more

Terrible customer service. Called for shuttle pricing, that was fine. Drove an hour 1/2 to get there only to be told shuttles were every hour on the hour. It's still summer time! We made a reservation via email (they weren't answering their phones), and drove over an hour to get there. They were making people wear masks on the bus, and there WAS space for social distancing on the bus, but it seemed to be coincidental, not because they are limiting the number of people. But once we were ON the bus (after we'd driven there from over an hour away, waited 45 minutes, paid, filled out waivers, etc), we were told by the staff member to be aware that there is NOT social distancing on the bus ride back, and at times, there are so many people, people have to stand. We were told that if that was a problem "this is not the trip for you, and you should exit the bus now". A bit late, no? I DEFINITELY would have booked with a different company had that been clarified on the website. Also, there were a lot of people, and many with radios in their kayaks. It was anything but quiet for most of the trip downriver. We made the best of it, but I wouldn't recommend this company for sure. read more

Husband and I had a blast! When we arrived the parking lot was full so I already figured we would end up waiting awhile. I was correct. I don't know if it is because things are starting to open up and everyone wants out of the house (because of COVID), but the tent was packed! The trip before us took two busses. It was definitely worth the wait. Caney Fork River is beautiful and we saw a lot of wildlife! I did feel sorry for the girls in the store. They were bombarded with people. And then there were those that wanted to complain. I guess they felt entitled and thought they shouldn't have to wait like everyone else. If you only have space for 50, 100 can't go! What a screwed up mess! We brought a group of over 25 people. Had to change locations at the last minute because answers weren't answered by Mr Pirate. THEN we get to the other location & he had a tough time dealing with the size of our group. On top of that the prices were ridiculous. $80 for canoe, $60 for kayak, and $30 for hauling a kayak we brought. Affordable family fun-NOT!!! read more

Went on Monday for the eclipse and called ahead to make a reservation. And gave them my card number just for the reservation. Couldn't find any prices on there website until I looked at the FAQs where it said $34.99 for rental and $9.99 extra for weekend. Mind you we were going on a Monday even if it was the day of the eclipse. Looked at my account when we got there and they charged us $50 each plus tax without telling us because of the eclipse. When we got there and asked for a refund they said the charge was already done and they couldn't change it. All that saying. I will not be going back whether or not the rest of the trip was any good. read more

Don't waste your money! I've always canoed the Harpeth, but my husband and I found a Living Social deal for this place and thought it'd be a nice change of scenery. I'm really glad we didn't pay full price, but I think even the $35 we paid for the deal was too much. First, if you have the voucher, you have to book a week in advance online and they only offer the 2pm time. In general, we don't mind restrictions on using a deal. However, we arrived at 1:30 like we were instructed and found a TON of people. By only allowing the people with deals to come at 2pm, it meant a lot of people were there at 2pm. It was around 3:15 before we were finally on the shuttle to the river. I'm glad they had a tent for us to sit under, but it was still frustrating to have sat almost 2 hours before we got to go out. They said it was because the river was running too fast due to the dam generators, but I can't imagine that day was the first day this has happened. It was clear they are not organized, and now that I've read other reviews I see this is a common occurrence. We were doing the 6 mile trip. They warned it'd only take 1.5 hours since the river was running fast. We didn't even have to paddle, and we were done in about an hour. The only reason I'm giving two stars instead of 1 is because the part on the river was pretty. Yay for nature! My guess is that the majority of the time the river is running fast. It seems from other reviews that it's common and that most people feel like they wait for ages and then are hardly on the river at all. I would not recommend anyone canoeing through this company. Even with the Living Social deal I felt like we wasted our money. read more

Just an awful experience with this service. The first truck wouldn't start so they removed the trailer and hooked up to another, which made it roughly 200ft down the road. The 3rd truck made it there, but the ride there felt like impending doom. That carelessness with a handicapped individual on board and a 3 year old child (who weren't in my group), is unforgivable for me. Once everyone had arrived at the final destination, it took them nearly an hour to pick us up. My advice: Bring 2 vehicles and put it in yourself or use Big Rock Market for rentals and pickup. We love to canoe and usually go on the Harpeth but we wanted to try the Caney River. So I saw Canoe the Caney and booked a 9:00am trip. I referred to the website and it stated from 10:00 on was their busy time so to book the earlier trip. We arrived 30 min early, as suggested on the website. Once we got there we were greeted by a young man who stated the river was really high and running fast so the 3 hour trip would only be 1 1/2 or we can go on the lake and paddle around for 4 hours. We opted for lake due to driving over an hour to canoe. After filling out that paperwork, we went inside to register. Talk about a cluster. Ppl everywhere and very unorganized. Once we were finally registered and given boarding passes, it was 9:30. Mind you our scheduled trip was at 9:00am. We waited an extra hour before being shuttled to the lake. Once we finally were on the lake it was a great time. I made sure to call 30 min prior to being back at the dock for pick up and we still waited over an hour to be picked back up. Over all it's not worth the drive or the extra money. read more

Currently on the steaming hot packed bus as the water rises around the wheels. Canoe the Caney was exasperating! What should have been a restful, idealic float down the Caney River was nearly ruined by Canoe the Caney transportation. Don't bother making reservations they are meaningless! You'll go randomly whenever they get to you. There is a symphony of criticisms from everyone on board the bus back. Everyone declares they will not use Caney again. The price was way higher than most of my kayaking experiences. We enjoyed the float and once we reached the spot to notify the office for pick up we did exactly as instructed. We arrived at the end of our trip and there was a Canoe the Caney bus already there. The driver told us that he was full but another bus was on the way. We waited patiently for 45 minutes before we contacted the office again for pick up. After 90 minutes our transportation finally arrived. We waited 90 minutes in the pouring rain to get shuttled back to our vehicle. read more

They left us stranded in a hot parking lot waiting for our shuttle for nearly an hour while we watched shuttles from other companies coming and going with groups of passengers. When the shuttle for finally arrived, there weren't enough seats for all passengers. During Covid-19 outbreak it was the perfect Covid-spreading disaster: 50 sweaty mask-less passengers packed like sardines into a bus. I would NOT recommend this company. read more

We had a group of approx 25 do the 9 mile trip yesterday. The river was great, prices were not. If you are an experienced canoer or kayaker, I do not recommend using Canoe the Caney. Their prices are at least 2 times as much as anyone else. They are the only ones that charge per person, not per canoe. We came with our own canoe, they charged us $30 to shuttle. I'm not really sure how they can justify their prices. Yes, we should have checked pricing before we showed up but it was a last minute change in venue due to other water levels. There were 25 of us, we were already commited and didn't expect the prices to be that drastically different. I called around to different canoe rental outfitters, here is what I found. Canoe the Caney (9miles) $72 +tax Tip-a-canoe (8hours) $39.95 +tax Canoe Music City (9.5miles) $43 +tax River Rat (9miles) $50 +tax Needless to say, we WILL NOT be using Canoe the Caney ever again. Great fun. Staff was awesome but the person in charge of getting you to the water is a bit slow. We showed up plenty early and was told when I called last night, that the bus leaves at 9. That wasn't true and was actually 30/40 minutes later. And he parked the bus right by the tent where the customers are waiting - with it running. The exhaust smell was coming in and I had to move due to fumes giving me a headache. After all of that we didn't even use the bus, but a smaller van. It did rain on us but we knew that was a possibility and it was still fun. read more

We just did the Haunted Canoe trip. This isn't a jump out and scare you type adventure. This is actual folk lore of the area. Some of the guides shared experiences of their own. Sam was our guide for the land part of the tour. He was great. Just the right amount of mountain man mixed with grandpa to make his tales really credible. Nick was our water guide. He shared his own personal experience with us which I enjoyed. The bus ride is quick to the grave yard that you start the tour in. There is a little walking on decent trails. I suggest close toed shoes, but saw some in flip flops. Bring a flashlight or buy one there for $4.99. This adventure is great for all ages. There is some story telling so maybe really little kids might be best left at home as they might get bored. But my 11 year old nephew was really into it. He kept looking at me with huge eyes whenever Sams stories got really good! It rained on us a bit, but we didn't mind. The canoes on the water with the lights look really pretty. All in all this was a fun trip that our entire group enjoyed. Totally recommend!! read more

Plenty of staff but no leader in charge. Confusion and waiting at this place. No explanation of order or process. Also, the most ridiculous thing is that their river map doesn't make sense and the end location isn't marked. We had to paddle upstream for an hour because we missed the confusing exit. There has to be a way to put a flag up during business hours. After we got to the end location- fully exasperated- we had to wait an hour to be picked up for the 35 minute drive back to the facility.
