We have kayaked this 6 mile stretch of the Caney Fork twice. Our first was with another competitor. All I can say is they have great advertising and a Pirate and that's about it. Prices are comparable and kayaks are identical. We started off waiting nearly an hour before our departure time to make sure we have a full van load before leaving. After a 20 minute drive we put our kayaks in and had a nice float to our destination. That's where the fun ended. We had no one to meet us there from the company to direct us as to what we needed to do with the kayak, pfa's, etc. Finally someone shows up one hour later. They took our kayak and drop us off at a parking lot at the top of the hill where we waited another 30 mins for a ride back to the store. No communication and disorganized to say the least. This time we choose to use Caney Fork Outdoors. Not as well advertised but this is a hidden gem. Couldn't have been happier with our experience. 10 minutes from the time we swiped the credit card we were on the water. No hour wait to fill the van, no 20 min drive to the water. Just pay and play. Had a great day on the water then when we were done, they were waiting for us to load up the kayak and we were in a van and back to our car in 10 minutes. It was night and day to our first trip. I know not everyone's experience will be the same with either company, but just think it's worth it to give the folks at Caney Fork Outdoors a try. They may not have the flashy advertising but you are treated like a customer not a number and they are focused on you having a great time. Customer for life as they treat you right. read more

We were in town from Jacksonville, Florida visiting family and wanted to explore so we booked our kayaks the day before to ensure we wouldn't miss out on time slots. The family owned operation was extremely helpful and kind. I would definitely recommend this business to anyone and everyone. We look forward to returning soon to do it again. The views were amazing and the water was perfect for a nice swim in the middle. We also stumbled upon some cows about half way through as well. Super awesome! After we were done with our kayak trip we went next door to have lunch and the food was also amazing and no complaints. Thanks guys!! read more

Called and asked about demoing a kayak. Was told to come in any time during the week. So I loaded up the trailer and made the drive. When I arrived, I waited about a half hour only to be told that demos must be sheduled in advance during a 2 hour window once a week. I did not get to try out the kayak. I hope their rental business is hopping because trading 40 dollar rentals for 3000 dollar sales seems like a strange way of going about things. All that said they get a star because they do have a good inventory of kayak fishing gear. read more

Allow me to preface this negative customer service review: My group did not use Caney Fork Outdoors on our recent July 22, 2017, kayak trip. We utilized a different rental company, and we had a satisfactory experience. We did, however, encounter Caney Fork Outdoors employees upon the completion of our paddle. Our foursome finished the six-mile trip and pulled our kayaks ashore. Once firmly on land, we were told by the woman at Caney Fork Outdoors to move our kayaks several feet down the landing area, as her company had claimed the space as its own. Noticing a lack of signage dividing the beach by company, we left the kayaks where they were. We were told by the company we rented from to leave the kayaks to be picked up, and to come and sit on the air-conditioned bus while we waited. Out of nowhere, the classless Caney Fork Outdoors woman reared her head again. She instructed her employee to simply shove our kayaks back into the river, a command that he followed without hesitation. This is unacceptable and displayed an utter lack of character. We rushed off the bus and retrieved the kayaks before they floated too far astray. We then confronted her, and she stood her ground on her right to claim the landing area as her own, despite contradictory instructions from our rental company. Our bus driver conveyed that this wasn't the first incident with Caney Forks Outdoors. It's abundantly clear that her vitriolic disposition has soured the experiences of many patrons. Her employee attempted to apologize for his actions, and we acknowledged that it wasn't solely his fault. We will not be using Caney Fork Outdoors moving forward, and I suggest intense training for customer-facing employees. read more
