If we had to go another further, I have died because I was so tired. We stopped at a few little islands along the river. Definitely an experience we won't forget!

We got to the park when it opened at 9am Sunday morning and managed to snag some tickets for the 12:15 self guided tour. In the intervening hours I ran 10 miles in a slow drizzle on a path that was crushed gravel following along the same stretch of road that we took to enter the park. When it was our turn we were called by the over head PA to meet at Shelter for a short talk by the ranger before descending to the cave 200 ft below. A walk way takes you to the mouth of the entrance. We were able to walk a total of 2 miles in the tunnels which had an average temperature in the 50s. Wear a sweater or jacket before you go. The cave system is the longest in the world and we definitely could have kept going but were turned around at 3/4 of a mile into it. The caves possessed an artifact as old as 5000 years but the network of caves had inhabitants for much older. We got our National Park Pass stamped and also enjoyed exploring the gift shop and museum at the visitor center. The park has a great network of trails and camping and a lodge / hotel. We finished up at around 2pm and after about 5 hours in the park. It was a pristine day in the park with so much more to see, so we look forward to the next time.

This was a great time. We live outdoor activities so the nature was great. Let me explain why the 3…read morestars then... They are not really on time with their check in and dropping off schedules. We were told we needed to be there 30 minutes before our 11am departure. We got on the bus after 11:15 and it's a 20 minutes drive to the drop off area. Jennifer was great. It was her first day and she was killing it like a pro. They get us to sign the release forms if you didn't do it online then you go inside to get your wristbands and make you payment if needed. They offer boat and other water toys for rent. Once we were inside, McKenzie was nice and helpful. She took our payment and gave us our wrist bands. After that we wait till the groups are ready and things where they need to improve. People that are ready and came on time should not have to wait and lose time on the river. Specially when they are VERY on time to pick you up at 5pm sharp. ... They need improvement, they know it... they are trying. They have an app you can download but good luck with service IMPORTANT warning information given in the "training": It's illegal to operate a canoe while drinking alcoholic drinks. They will give you a BUI (Boating Under the Influence) so be safe and always bring a designated captain or a pirate or both! Whatever floats your boat So, overall it's not a bad spot but definitely come as they open so you don't feel rushed or shorted out of time. Stay safe!

Went last Tuesday for the short (1-3 hour) kayak trip…read more Couple of pro tips. First, if there aren't any generators going, the water levels can be low in areas and the flow is slow. So your trip will take closer to 2-3 hours, without stopping somewhere for a picnic lunch. Which will be possible since there are plenty of places where it is easy to beach yourself and take a break. Second, bring lots of sunscreen. And even so, consider a long sleeve sun shirt and possibly something for your legs. There were no bugs to speak of (we started around 11:30 AM and finished 6.3 miles later at 1:30 PM) Our weather was in the high 80s and mostly sunny, so bring plenty to drink. There aren't any places to purchase anything along the way, so plan accordingly. They have a good selection of snacks and drinks at the store and don't provide anything on the 30-45 minute rides to the Caney and back. The trip was serene. We saw a couple of herons, a raccoon and some muskrats or perhaps river otters. And some hawks, but not the bald eagles. Another couple saw some deer, but we instead saw the infamous river cows. Anyway, we enjoyed it and though we aren't as young as we once were, getting back to nature helped transport us to younger days we spent in the outdoors.

We rented one canoe (which came with oars and lifejackets), were led to the endpoint (we chose Houchins Ferry) to park our car, and were then driven with the canoe to our starting point (Dennison Ferry). We canoed around 12 miles of the Green River the first day, camped on Boardcut Island, and then finished the 20-mile trip the following morning. All we had to do at Houchins was leave the canoe, oars, and lifejackets out and make a phone call to Cave Country...so convenient! Best thing about working with Cave Country was their friendly service. They even went so far as to give us a s'mores fixings care package (complete with firestarters, graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate)! We also had some great conversation with their employees, both exchanging stories and getting some great advice for canoeing on the river. I would highly recommend going with Cave Country Canoe if you're thinking of making a trip to Mammoth Cave or the Green River.

We were shuttled to the drop site and picked up quickly when we were done. The prices were competitive and the service was top notch. We didn't get s'mores like the other reviewer, but we also didn't book a 2 day trip. Just FYI, the National Park Service prohibits consumption or possession of alcohol on the Green River. Fines can be in excess of $500 per adult in the boat. Also, they require that you wear life jackets, not just have them in the boat. Fines are also assessed per person not wearing one. Rangers will tour the river and ticket you for not following the rules. Safety first, Yelpers!

It's a ~24 mile, 2 day, overnight canoe trip. The first day there's a great waterfall which I highly recommend stopping at and playing in. The halfway point of the trip has a large sandbar/island which is perfect for camping on. There's not a whole lot of other options along the route to camp so you'll want to make sure you don't pass it. It's right after the only Bridge (other than the 1 right at the end) so it's not hard to spot. The island is all rocks so make sure you bring a sleeping pad or you'll be sleeping on a bed of rocks!. The benefit of it being all rock is that we felt confident in building a huge bonfire that night. There was plenty of driftwood and we gathered it all up and had a fire going that burned about 4 feet tall to cook hotdogs and smores on! We chose this outfitter because it was the cheapest of the 3 we found in the area but I'm having a hard time imagining the other outfitters being as great as this. If I went back I'd definitely go to this place even if it were the same price or a little more than the competition.
