I have used them for a few different occasions and everytime the cakes turn out wonderful and they always delivery them on time!

Tried to upcharge $30 for small, simple piping detail on $40 cake. Tried to get a small 8" round cake for a military promotion. 5 days out, no fondant. SIMPLE!!! It was Major's promo, so small ~2 in gold Oak leaf insignia on top... $30??? All thre scrolling on side was free, any additional text free, but $30 for a simple leaf? Anyone qualified to work in a bakery it should take like 5 minutes tops. Criminal. And for a hero no less. That being said the girl working the front was very nice, but overall very disappointing. Very disrespectful. Go to Kroger, Sam's or anywhere else. Better customer service, better price, and probably same or better taste (their kolaches need some help). read more

Our wedding cakes came from Candy Haven and they were a huge hit! We had a disaster occur with the first cake order at a different venue and Candy Haven took care of us when I went in and explained! We did a cake tasting on the spot- everything was to die for, but we chose the marble cake with fudge filling and butter cream icing for the Brides cake & strawberry cake with fuge filling and chocolate butter cream icing for the Grooms cake. I don't quite have photos, but both cakes were everything expected and absolutely beautiful! Plus they tasted so great! Both cakes were moist with so much flavor to them. My husband and I are so very thankful and I would tell anyone in this area or close to- don't waste your time anywhere else- the pricing was great and the cakes are phenomenal! I will surely be going back for any cake I need in the future! read more

I needed some cupcakes last Sunday for my mothers impromptu birthday gathering in Denton. Growing up here, I knew they had some great products. I called them on a Sunday at 10am, hoping to get a dozen cups quickly. The lady told me that They could have an order prepared for pickup by 1. I told her nevermind, I needed them in about a half hour. She went ahead and cranked out a batch for me in record time, and they were amazing. We have buying cakes from here for the last 5 years. Lately we bought three cakes and they where all wrong. We send them a email and they still get it wrong. The cake taste different. Not as moist. We asked for a marble got a yellow cake. They charge you for yellow cake. They charge for yellow icing. These should be not extra. They try to get every penny out you. The presentation is great everything else sucks. No quality. Guess they got so big and forgot about quality and customer service. Don't buy from there. Walmart makes better cakes read more

I had them make a cake for a baby shower. After I placed the order the artist who would be making the cake called to confirm my selections and make suggestions. Very helpful! The theme was woodland animals. Her finished product was better than the pictures I had brought in as ideas. She did a beautiful job and the cake was delicious. They were very detailed about the best way to transport as well as cut and serve the cake. Everyone at the shower agreed the cake was darling and delicious. My son and daughter-in-law were very pleased. I recommended them to several people at the shower and would most certainly use them again. read more

I really want to like this place because their kolaches are delicious and their cakes are a way better alternative to a grocery store sheet cake, but their customer service is downright awful. I have ordered a few cakes over the last couple years and have been disappointed to have paid so much money for them. Their cakes are pretty good, but far more expensive than they are worth. The ladies who take cake orders can't be bothered to smile a single time or make you feel at all welcome at their business. And they will made you feel stupid for not understanding their cake making process. The only reason this business is getting more than 2 stars from me is because their kolache side is fantastic. Great customer service from the 2 folks who usually man the counter and the food is always great! Just avoid the cake/candy side. The service here is terrible and the deserts are decent.One of the employees, a slimmer white woman in her 20s whose name I didn't catch, threatened me for walking in a few minutes late to pick up an order which I desperately needed for an event. I didn't know when they closed. I'm not from the area. I was just told to pick up the order. The door wasn't locked so I figured they stayed open a little longer today. Sorry folks, but this was just a tough experience. The young girl that waited on us was lovely, sweet, beautiful, and very helpful. Unfortunately, her hands were tied when it came to pricing and decision making for a custom cake. Telling us they just didn't want the job or didn't have time would have been preferable to the attempted gouging we were subjected to. My son-in-law was just promoted to Major in the US Army. We just found out on Monday and had to celebrate when family was in town. The biggest disappointment, however, was that we wanted a basic gold oak leaf insignia, not fondant. We were willing to pay a bit extra, but were shocked that they would charge an extra $30 for that one thing on a $39 cake. Absurd! It was maybe a five minute extra at any average bakery. I feel certain they just did not want the job, so after agonizing over it for a few hours, they got their wish. We called and cancelled. We are very happy with our other option, who are bending over backwards to please us for this very special occasion. And at much lower cost for just the cake. No extra charges for the insignia. This business needs to start reading their yelp reviews and listening to their customers. Positives: the chocolate was pretty good, if expensive. And again, the girl that helped us was a keeper, a real doll. read more

The customer service is AWFUL. I ordered a birthday cake and repeated the order 3 times to the young lady taking the order. The cake was a special order with a hand drawn design. When I went to pick up the cake, there were no chocolate covered strawberries on the cake-- which I had ordered and repeated 3 times. I had to wait while they dipped the strawberries and then put them in a box on the side because now there was not enough room for them on the cake. In addition, I was quoted a price for the cake, but then they charged me additional for the strawberries which were supposed to be on the cake to begin with. Ok, so they made a mistake- I paid and left with my cake. When I got to the office birthday party ( 1 1/2 hours away) the next day and cut the cake, it was evident that the order was reallly wrong. I couldn't tell until we cut the cake because of the icing, but the cake was dark chocolate. The cake was supposed to be white chocolate. I called to let them know about the mistake and to get them to make me the cake that I had ordered. They refused to make another cake. The manager asked me if anyone had eaten the cake and I told her that no one at our office likes the dark chocolate and that I would return the cake and we would just have the birthday the next week when I returned to the office again. She refused to give me another cake. After much discussion, she offered to bake another cake, but would not hand draw the design again. That is unacceptable. I ordered a cake and paid for a cake and I should have been given the correct cake to begin with, but at least they could have corrected their mistake and given me the correct cake the second time. We ordered our wedding cake here... And it was the wrong color. So disappointing!! I provided them with a picture to reference and a color swatch, and they still got it wrong. Also very hard to communicate with. I was told I would be contacted a week before the wedding to finalize details, and no one called. I called a few days before and they were very short with me and said everything was good to go. I should have been more persistent, the cake was poop brown instead of burnt orange. I ordered an 8" cake for my sons 13th birthday and the edible image was no more than 3X3. Too small for the surface of the cake. You'd think that they would call the customer and let them know. The cake was to be ready at 12:00 on 12/29 but I had to wait an extra 1/2 hour for them to get it right. Also, the festive decorations on the cake were not as extravagant as shown in the picture book of cakes they have. I also asked for cream cheese frosting and the frosting definitely does not taste like cream cheese. It tasted more like buttercream with a hint of cream cheese. I think the cream cheese frosting recipe needs to be changed. Definitely not happy. I will not be going back. read more

I ordered a 9x13 white chocolate cake for my husband's birthday party. It was decorated beautifully exactly to my specifications. The cake, tho was so dry it had no taste. What a disappointment!!! Candy Haven is doing so well for themselves that when a customer who was inquiring if their roughly $100 order could be same day delivered across town they put the customer on an indefinite hold on the phone until the line disconnected. Good work Ash! read more

Ugh, I don't have the time or energy to write all that is wrong with this place. Personally I ordered from them twice and had a very poor experience. When I co-hosted a shower Candy Haven was the choice of the Mom-to-Be so we ordered from there. Again they were so rude, so unhelpful, and so expensive!!! The cake, like everything else I've ordered from them, looked cheap. We lamented that it looked like a Walmart cake. My husband came in and without knowing of our disappointment said, "so that's what you get from Walmart" and I told him it was Candy Haven! Even he, a man who doesn't even notice when I cut my hair or change my hair color, noticed how uneven and poorly made it was. Yes we called to complain, yes they tried to "fix" (they scraped off the off-center wording and rewrote it), and of course they made excuses for their poor quality, "It's summer,". Apparently "summer" is an excuse for thin icing, uneven layers, and poor writing - although that last part they did fix. We were so embarrassed to display it at her shower. But I think we were all finally convinced that Candy Haven is not worth the hype. read more

Read the great reviews and ordered a 1/2 sheet for a large birthday party. The cake was much more expensive than I expected, $100 instead of $65. The decorating of the cake was okay but nothing extraordinary and the cake was very dry. Very disappointing experience. Won't order from Candy Haven again. read more

I can only give three stars as all we did was purchase candy. As I did not order cakes or use that service, I cannot attest to that. We had no problem with service at the counter and in fact we grilled the poor girl with question after question all of which she was happy to answer at around 4:30 in the afternoon. The cupcake selection was sparse (what do you expect at 4:30pm) and I questioned her about the selections and was advised to come in early to make sure I had optimal choices. She said they rotate the flavors out every other day. We made our selection of chocolates and while some of the chocolates (like the vanilla buttercreams) I would not get again, the chocolate pecan and cashews were worth another go around. The toffee was not at all what I expected...not buttery enough and I get more flavor from a Heath bar! My kiddo loved his chocolate pretzel and coconut chocolate, but it is a little pricey...$14 for a one pound box that we all shared over a few days. As I am starting to make my way around the candy stores, this was good for a first visit. read more

I have purchased many. many cakes from Candy Haven in the past and was pleased. We are a non profit organization and David did our rescue cake with 3-D fondant. It was beautiful, this was 2012. Fast forward to 2014 and the girl up front with the dyed red hair who is extremely rude, would not let us talk to David the cake decorator. I had to tell her what I wanted and then she would tell David when she got the time. Long story short, after numerous calls and wasting two weeks of time I was told they were short handed and could not do what we requested. This cake was being ordered 2 months in advance. That is plenty of time to do a 3-d figurine. I will never order one of their over priced cakes again. On to true custom cake bakers. I would not recommend Candy Haven and I would have given them 0 stars if I could have. At one time they were accommodating to their clients needs, now I guess they forgot who made them what they are today. I knew immediately that I would be selecting Candy Haven for my wedding cake. I had ordered cakes with them before for smaller parties, and my sister had used them for her wedding the year before. It is difficult to find wedding cakes that look amazing and taste great, but that is exactly what Candy Haven provides! I still had guests complimenting the cake weeks after our wedding! They have a wide selection of flavors and icing patterns, so I knew our cake would be individualized to our taste. Their prices are very reasonable, as they include a grooms-cake with their wedding cakes. Our wedding had to be relocated three days before due to Grapevine Lake flooding in late May. They were very flexible about the last minute change. I will definitely continue to use Candy Haven! read more

This place need to be shut down. I ordered my sons birthday cake from here and sent the picture with all the instructions. After getting a quote for the cake, I called to place the order. The owner took my order and assured me they could make the cake exactly like the picture. The cake was $153 for cake and decorations. We wanted to add fondant letters to the cake, the owner then told me it would be $20 more dollars to add the letters. Get to bakery to pick up the cake and it's nothing like the picture and instead of all the fondant letters being on the cake like I requested and paid for they only put some of the words in fondant. Then when asked about a refund for the difference, I was talked rudely to and told that they couldn't do anything about it. This place has ruined my sons birthday cake and I will never again use this place or recommend this place. Go elsewhere if you want to get what you pay for. read more

I have used candy haven my entire life. Stopped in the other day to get my son a birthday cake. Picked out a $40 ten inch ice cream cake that was labeled white cake with cookies and cream. It was beautiful and the boy was very excited. This was a splurge for us. When we cut into the cake it was chocolate cake with mint ice cream. Neither of which he eats. I immediately sent an email requesting a refund. A very nice employee replied that she could offer a $25 gift certificate but was not authorized to give a refund. I asked to speak to Jane the owner. When I spoke to Jane she told me that she was not willing to give a refund because she was "sure someone at the party liked the cake." Her offer was a $20 refund. After some back and forth I ended up with a $30 credit. Makes no sense to me that a business owner would send a customer away unhappy over $10. The cake wasn't even that great either. It was really dry. The old days are gone, there are too many choices now to put up with that. Won't be back. read more

I work for a local business in Denton, and just like most folks, anytime there is an office party or any sort of gathering, cakes are ordered from Candy Haven. I've always thought that the cakes were pretty good, moist, fresh, etc., but familiar. I had a birthday recently and decided that I would order myself a cake from Candy Haven. I arrived at the store prior to them opening on a Wednesday and noticed several cars in the parking lot waiting, but I wanted to be the first to order in hopes of getting my cake the same day (By the way... that didn't work). So I waited at the door as opposed to in my car like the other folks. As I was ordering at the register, an employee exited a door from behind the cash register. What I saw behind those doors absolutely blew my mind. I saw stacks and stacks, and I do mean stacks and stacks of boxes of Duncan Hines cake mixes. I then realized why the cakes tasted so familiar. It was because I have made those box cakes before. I have a book called the Cake Doctor which includes cake recipes, but it teaches you how to spice box cakes up by adding more butter, or extract, etc. I was and still am so very disappointed. I have ordered several cakes from Candy Haven and have been please until this last order. I was ordering a birthday cake that I was going to have to get a day in advance due to travel. The lady informed me that if I got any sooner they could not guarantee that it would taste good. Said it would get a strange taste. She said one day should be fine, but what I could not understand is what they put in their cakes that would cause them to go bad so soon. She said I could not put in fridge to keep fresh prior to serving because the decorations might run. I also asked for the cake to be marble but what I got was a white cake with a small line of chocolate running through it. Far cry from a marble cake. When I served the cake to the guest several people ask what the very strong flavor was. It tasted like someone had dumped too much vanilla or almond in the cake. Some bites were almost bitter. You know it is bad when several people ask about the flavor. I will be honest with you, I would have been happier with a cake from the warehouse clubs over this one. I sure would not have had to worry about a $65 birthday cake spoiling in a couple of days if not put in a fridge. What I hate was the fact that the cake was for my mom's 80th birthday party and it turned out so bad. read more

Went to Candy Haven for my daughter's birthday cake because I have used them before for her birthday and was pleased with the final product. This time was completely different. I brought in a picture of what I wanted and gave it to the lady taking my order. She said she needed to speak with the cake decorator to make sure it could be done. I was told that the cake would need to be 9X13 to ensure that all the details could be included and I was quoted a price of $50. I agreed to that and she wrote down my order and gave my a time to pick up the cake. Went in a couple days later and when I went to pay for it, I was told the final charge would be $115!!! I told them what I was quoted when I placed the order. The lady running the register went for assistance. I was told that they had to make the cake bigger to include all the details which raised the price. I was also informed that their was a $50 decorating fee!! When asked why I wasn't called when they knew they weren't going to be able to stick to the original quote, they could not give my an answer. To add to the frustrations, the "decorating fee" was to cover a black line that outlined the cake and a black outlined arrow...no other decorations whatsoever. My previous cake was tiered and had more decorations and was less than $100. If I had been told prior to the day of pick up that they were going to be doubling the price of my cake, I would have gone elsewhere. Please use the number that you take from your customers and notify them of such changes. They were unwilling to work with me on the price. read more
