He took the time to provide us numerous estimated costs for different options and actually in the end, they were under budget. Kevin and his installation team (headed by David) was very professional and detail oriented and it showed in the quality of their work. We were impressed with their exceptional craftsmanship with cabinet door, sink, hardware and painting installation. In addition, they left our home spotless after every visit from the first day through the last day of the project installation. In fact, there was a minor flaw in one of the cabinet doors and they installed it, but informed us immediately they ordered a new door to be re-installed upon arrival to their showroom. We took out a doorway to another bedroom-never used, took out a radiator and put in a heated floor, replace a pedestal sink with a vanity with LOTS of storage and so much more. We added another medicine cabinet and heated towel rack where the extra door was, put a bench with drawers where the radiator was and put in both a handheld and overhead shower heads. When Jim came over to first take a look at our space, he told us not to shove things in drawers or closets. He wanted us to let him see how we honestly used our unrenovated kitchen every day. At the time, I was thoroughly embarrassed by all of our clutter, but it immediately went away when Jim showed us the drawings for our new space at the second design meeting. He took the struggles we told him we were having (plus the ones he saw we were having) and gave us drawings that reflected kitchen dreams that we didn't even know we had. A built-in pantry, additional under-island storage, an extra large sink so dishes aren't piled up - Jim completely knocked the design out of the park, and then coordinated with his team to bring his drawings to life. I work with construction clients as part of my legal practice and am no stranger to home renovations. Despite the extensive nature of the renovations needed (including removal of a concrete subfloor!), it was the most seamless project I have ever experienced. Jim and his team were consummate professionals throughout the process, promptly answered questions, and provided us with frequent updates. They even delivered ahead of schedule! All the floors creak horribly, bedroom and bathroom doors do not close properly. We had some remodeling done last winter by another company and was able to have their carpenter fix some of these issues, of course at a cost $100 an hour. Then we hired some professional painters and they needed to do some repairs before painting. They discovered whomever drywalled the ceiling used the wrong kind of tape, which had started to let go and come down. There are little round pop outs all around the ceiling edges. Found out these are nail heads that are starting to come down due to gravity. I guess they should have used screws not nails. I had tried to contact Belman regarding the creaking floors and possible remodeling, but they were not interested.

Pricing came back and it was very fair. Then we met with their design team and their amazing store. We met Martyna and SHE IS INCREDIABLE!! She worked extremely hard to find some cabinet hardware that we ended up loving and you can tell she knew the ins and out of the smaller details of kitchens. After the work began we noticed how friendly, professional and clean their crew was and they were great with my dogs that escaped a few times. I want to stress how clean they were as they took time after leaving everyday to clean up and organize any tools in the corner. The process itself took a little over 3 weeks which was much faster than we thought, and they did not comprise any quality in my eye. Communication was great and I would use them again in a heartbeat. There was a very small issue that arose afterwards and they came out to fix it so that proves they stand behind their work. We had Terry remodel our 1940s bathroom - electrical, plumbing, tile, tub, painting, toilet, sink,…read morelighting, cabinet, exhaust fan, grab bars, counter, plaster repair - the works! It's now been about 4 months since he finished the work and each day I look at our new bathroom and think "wow!' He did a great job! He was patient and always responsive to any questions or issues, and cleaned up each day. Great workmanship too. He started out by measuring and answering any questions we had, offering ideas here and there but letting us make our own decisions. Unlike some other contractors, he did not give fancy 3D architectural renderings, nor did he accompany us to each supplier to pick out products. Here's what his process was, which was perfect for us. We received a proposal contract which listed each item or task, along with a cost allowance for each item. If we chose something more expensive than its allowance, the final price would reflect the increase. If what we chose cost less than the allowance, the final cost would go down by that much. So we had a bottom line price from the start and would have the final decision on expenses. He then also gave us a list of his suggested suppliers from which to pick out all of the products. We worked with those suppliers to make selections at their respective showrooms (they work with TLC regularly), and they forwarded our selections to Terry. A few selections we made were from suppliers not on his list, which was fine, but the places he suggested were where most of the items came from. When all selections were made, he provided us with a revised proposal contract reflecting our selections and revised costs. Then he - not us - did the ordering from each vendor to insure that all of the parts and pieces fit together and would work, plus that way his contractor discount was applied. His final contract to us was transparent and showed all prices. No additional markups, no change order fees, no nonsense. If someone wants computer-generated architectural renderings, having him present at each supplier meeting, one central showroom where every needed product and samples are all in one place, then this type of contractor isn't likely for you. If however, you want a remodeling contractor that not only provides the quote but also does the actual work himself, with reliable suppliers that work with him, with a fair price and a minimal amount of stress (if that's possible lol), then TLC's a good choice. Would we recommend TLC Contracting? If you haven't it already guessed: the answer is absolutely!

We had the pleasure of working directly with Jamie as our planning consultant and Frank as our general contractor. They were always there to answer our questions and were available to us at all times throughout the build process. They help from day one with lot identification and evaluation all the way to your final inspection. Unfortunately, they won't help you move all of your personal items into your wonderful new house! However, they are there to support you in any way that they can. Joe, UBuildIt owner, even helped me 'break' into our house when the key from our lock box got mistakenly left in a completely locked house. I don't know many other company owners that will do that for you (on a Sunday morning nonetheless). One of the big differences between UBuildIt and other 'traditional' builders is that they offer their services on a flat fee basis. Thus, they truly have your best interests as a homeowner at heart. They make the same amount of money whether you buy a $10,000 toilet or a $10 one. That's not true of other builders. Their process is very well-refined. They are experts in the construction business and will provide tons of value throughout the design and build process. Most new home owners have unrealistic budget expectations. UBuildIt provides their guidance and advice to keep you on budget and let you know when your expectations aren't necessarily realistic. The network of preferred subcontractors UBuildIt has established who will actually build your house are just as fantastic as they are. We were so turned off at the initial meeting that we opted to continue searching for builders, and apparently, the representative we met with opted not to work with us, either. In short, we met with her for one hour and she took four...FOUR...personal phone calls within that time frame. We didn't say anything about it at the time, but no customer should have to tell a prospective builder how unprofessional that is. I can see maybe one phone call if it is urgent, but nothing about her personal calls seemed catastrophic enough to interrupt a meeting for. Strike one. We had received a PDF pamphlet of information with testimonials from previous customers. One customer had built a house which looked almost exactly like what we were looking for, within the price range we are staying in. Great, right? Wrong. During our meeting, the person we met with said that pamphlet is not only for their Oklahoma branch, and "prices are a lot cheaper in Oklahoma so we can't build for that cheap", but the pamphlet is also 8 years old? Why did you send it to us, then?! Strike two. Strike three happened when we told the rep the price range we wanted to stay in, between house building and land. The look on her face and the "well, there's no way we can build within that price range" statement that followed was enough. We have met with several builders over the last year, and our price range has been perfectly compatible for everyone else. Nonetheless, we cordially finished the meeting and we asked her to send us information on their simplest model house, thinking that maybe, just MAYBE, we would keep this company on the table. She said she would email the info to us the next day. She never did. We never heard from her again after our initial meeting. We felt this lady was nothing short of rude and insulting. Will not even consider U Build It after our meeting with her.

Marcus and his assistant, Devon, came out yesterday to repair our back deck. The deck was built 20…read moreyears ago without professional guidance, so some of the woodwork was kind of wonky. The top part of the deck, made from teak, is still fine, but all the rails (aside from the main supports) and bottom of the stairs were pine, so many of those parts needed replacement due to wood rot. Additionally, the slats that framed around the porch weren't attached properly, so Marcus took them all off and reattached them correctly and securely. He also removed an electrical outlet that wasn't working and capped off the wiring. The baseboards were also replaced with PVC. It was a full-day project, and these guys worked hard. I can't say enough for their professionalism--from the quality work they did (plus explaining everything to me), and beginning and ending the day with cordial words. Such politeness is not a give in these days. The day began with a friendly greeting and ended in the evening with, "Have a nice night," not to mention polite interactions throughout the day. They also cleaned up perfectly, removing all the old wood. Even though they went beyond what we discussed, and Marcus did the extra work (wooden slats that weren't attached properly and a piece of wood behind the stairs that was replaced with PVC which we hadn't talked about initially) Marcus stuck to his original estimate. ***I would recommend these guys without reservation.*** I will also add that their pricing was very fair with an estimate given ahead of time.
