Christmas has arrived at Canadian Tire before Nov 1...

This store is AMAZING. So big you could get lost in it and you likely will because there is almost no one there to help you find what you are looking for. While they likely have what you need and at a decent price you won't find in a reasonable time. It's unfortunate because I do like to shop Canadian, and this store makes me want to shop here. They hire a nice greeter, the store is clean, they have lots of registers and lots of stock. But, I like service. I like to be able to find someone to talk to when I want service. Maybe, it's just me. And, now they are doing construction in the parking lot to make what looks like a gas station. You would have thought that they would have done that at the same time as building the entire building and not force customers to have to deal with more construction debris again. Not sure of the logic in this.

This Canadian Tire is kind of fun to visit, just for novelty of going to the biggest Canadian Tire in Canada. The store is huge, although I'll be honest it wasn't like, "oh no I can't find my way out and I'm lost" kind of big. Maybe because it's so open (unlike say going Ikea where you're twisting and turning from one section to another). I digress. I came here looking for a father's day gift. At the door I was greeted by a greeter, who, unlike the greeters at Walmart, seemed pretty happy to be there. I said I was just browsing and made my way upstairs, because I just wanted to wander. If you go up the escalator by the entrance be warned when you get upstairs you'll be going in front of the cash tils (past the security beeper things). Speaking of security there was a lot at this store. Maybe because its so new. Upstairs is the camping/hunting/fishing section, as well as sports and kids toys. For a Candian Tire they had a fairly large selection of kids toys, although no where near the variety of going to a Toys R US. There is a giant lego statue hockey player. That was cool. The sports section was also heavily focused on hockey. There were hockey jerseys on display, a hockey table game (the ones like a foosball table, but for hockey) and this practice area where you could practice your slapshot (you had to ask a sales person to get that). I'm not a hockey player, but for those who play hockey it seemed to be pretty hooked up. I went to the camping section and was a little disappointed in the prices. A fliptop coleman cooler that held 20 cans of beer (or soda) was $32, which was the exact same price as a coleman cooler holder 48 cans of beer (or soda). You'd think there would be some kind of difference in price. I didn't really check out the downstairs area (which had the automotive, kitchen, home renovation/decor, and gardening section). I did go down to the free wifi lounge, which is an area downstairs by the second set of escalators (in the middle of the store), consisting of a few couches and vending machines, and a hot wheels race track (that some kids were really excited about). The free wifi zone is a pretty nice touch. Canadian Tire isn't the kind of store I really go to (unless I'm looking for something specific like motor oil). The store itself is big, and pretty cool, but aside from that (and more stock) there isn't any reason for me to come back here over my local Canadian Tire.

Rudest location I have been to. Yeah... It's big. Really big. But it's just more of ALL the SAME stuff at every other store. I needed "specialty batteries" for a remote control. They are with the regular batteries...but locked up. I approached the nearest "associate" and her partner (both of whome were likely in their 40's...so they should have known better...). When I asked for access to the batteries they allbut laughed at me and told me I had to see "Customer Service"... Really? For batteries? Maybe they should be kept at Customer service then... Rude people. I'll just buy them somewhere else on principle now. Next was the cashier who didn't speak at all. Unreal. Will I be back?! Eventually. It's Canadian Tire after all. But I will stick to my local Sherwood Park location and avoid this excercise in consumerism.

Christmas is out and the massive store allows for huge bins!

I used it today since I had a Doctors appointment, but as I left the bathroom, a very sweet geriatric women using a walker, and hunched over the walker, was waiting to use the bathroom. I held the door open for her, and realized how bloody heavy this door was. So I stood waiting in the hall, and as I heard her try to open the door, I gently opened it and held it open so she could exit while leaning on her walker. I told her it's ridiculous this door does not have a mechanical door assist for seniors. The Mall should be embarrassed in only having one bathroom stall for two genders. Also this single bathroom had "NO" Urinal, so if a make teenager from the school across the road used the toilet, there's a good chance he left behind a male teenagers signature mark of a wet toilet seat. It's GROSS, UNHEALTHY, and shy of INHUMAN. The Mall will probably not care, so I am taking this health complaint to the AHS.

It also has a bank, a liqour store, a bunch of barber shops and a travel agency. I have never in my life thought of going to Millbourne Mall when I was in the mood to go shopping. it has no stores inside! Actually It might have one store inside.. the key word being might. I have heard rumors that it might get renovated and I sincerely hope that's true because this is probably one of the worst malls, if not the worst, in the city.

Southgate isn't the kind of place I recommend visiting in December, but then again I don't…read morerecommend visiting any mall in December (not if you can help it). That being said if I'm gonna go to a traditional indoor shopping mall then Southgate is my top pick. It's mostly a convenience factor (I like Kingsway too, but I live closer to the south side). The mall is older, I think 25 or 30 years old, but they've don't a lot of renovations in the past 5 years so everything looks new and bright. Southgate has a nice amount of stores, not too many, and I can usually find what I'm looking for when I come here. There are some higher end stores like Michael Kors, and the Apple Store (well high end depending on what you by) to your run-of-the-mill Canadian mall standards like The Bay and Sears. There are also a few stores here that are great to go to because for me it means avoiding a trip to WEM or going downtown (I love downtown, but I don't love driving/parking downtown). So yes it's great I can buy my makeup at Sephora here instead of going to WEM or going to Evoolution (delicious artisan olive oils and vinegars) instead of having to go downtown or to St. Albert. One of my favourite things about Southgate is the food court. It's open, and can be a bit loud, but it's got a decent fast food selection from Koryo (Korean) to Opa (Greek). I also love how environmentally friendly Southgate is...they've got bins for recycling, trash, and they even have drains so you can pour out your beverage down the drain instead of dumping it in the trash. There's even a separate spot to put the utensils. The other high point of Southgate, as strange as it might seem are the washrooms by the food court (well the ladies at least, can't speak for the men's). Why? Because the washroom stalls are huge (seriously you could probably get 4 people in there), they have a heavy wooden door, and when the door is locked it goes from a green vacant to a red occupied. I wish all public bathrooms did that, instead of playing the knock-to-check-and-see-if-someone-is-in-the-bathroom-stall game. The bathroom stalls also have a a big purse ledge for you put your purse/bags on. And when you go to use the sinks after you're done there is a automatic paper towel dispenser in front of every sink. No waiting in line to dry your hands. Score. Regarding parking it can get busy here, but I usually find the parking lot is pretty decent, particularly if you go to the upper level there's usually always spots there (maybe not right before Christmas). Southgate is also on the LRT line (right after Century Park) so it's convenient if you take transit. Just know Southgate isn't park and ride, so if you park here and take the lrt you could get a ticket (yeah they check that). One thing that is a little weird about Southgate is the layout. It's a mall that was just designed a bit weird, but it's not a big mall and easy to figure out. It can get busy, but it doesn't have the insane crowds that WEM does. Southgate is definitely my go to mall in Edmonton.

Lets start by saying the only time I go to Costco is when a friend calls up and asks if I want to…read morejoin them. I live alone so Costco to me is just not a place for me for groceries or anything. This store for some reason is so disorganized and a mess unlike the Nisku location ( which I prefer to go to ). Anyway, the parking lots are well spaced - which you never see anywhere else. The only thing was - empty shopping carts were all over the place and no one out there to collect them. So when we got inside getting a cart was about scarce as water in a dessert. I actually had to go outside to get one to use. Now the fun part... hot dogs $1.50.. yes please !!!! Clothing department was a complete disaster- it was a mess beyone anything I ever saw. I mean does no one just try to fold it up instead of just throwing it back on the shelf. As I walked around, there was a few samples being handed out but I resisted- probably because one was a plant based " Burger ".. pass ! I had enough of vegan food after dating a vegan for awhile. We got what we needed and headed to the check out counters. I did notice they have a self checkout area now as well. The line ups were long but wow it went really quick. I was impressed as to how quick they process their customers. The gas bar also had a long line - gas was $1,39 a liter ( nice change there ). Now to see other gas stations do the same. So basically .. Costco is great for families and bulk purchases .. or if you have a vacuum sealer this place is great for everything gigantic.

I have no idea why when I buy milk seems to go bad from Costco than other stores. I have milk in my fridge right now that is supposed to have another week and a half to go but it is already starting to smell sour. Once I even found a dead maggot in a pepper though I will grant I am a long time customer, it was only once, you can't see inside a pepper until it is cut, and their peppers are usually pretty good. However after seeing a little thing here and a little thing there...it starts to become disappointing. This is the icing on my cake. Why is there a bag of jerky that is OBVIOUSLY bad front and centre to be sold? It looks like the container is decently full and should have been noticed, but it is not. Please do better. You are better, right? This Costco location is at Edmonton 91 street.
