After waiting for a while and when I was just about to leave someone from the full serve island came over to fill me tank. The station was busy, but without knowing that you were competing with the people getting gas for an employee's hand it was a little confusing to figure out what was going on here. After paying I was glad to see that I arrived at the right time as there were a few people waiting to fill their tanks. On my second visit I just needed a drink. Upon walking into the convenience store there was a long line and many of the drinks were sold out. This wasn't a screaming hot day in the summer, it was a warm day in September. The posted prices are usually within a few cents per liter of each other, but Centex is regularly the cheapest. The level of HAPPY that scoring the cheapest gas along my communte brings me is of epic proportions. Seriously. On Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, the price at the pump is 2 cents per liter cheaper than the posted price. They don't just adjust the posted price on these days either - the posted price is STILL lower than other stations. But where the REAL BIG savings come in is if your car, like mine, requires premium (91+ octane). Some of the other big guys (*cough* Esso *cough*) get sneaky and only post their price for regular gas. When you get to the pump, you realize that premium is $0.15+/L more than regular. Ohhhh SNAP. At Centex, premium is always $0.10/L more than regular. Always. So, lets get out our calculators. $0.05+/L more for premium, plus $0.02/L on Wed / Sat / Sun, plus having a regularly posted price a few cents cheaper than other stations.... adds up to at least $0.10 per liter. You might be thinking "10 cents? who cares?". WELL. Stats Canada says that the average Canadian drives 18,000km per year. At average fuel economy, the 10 cents savings will quickly add up to $200 per year! It will be even more if you drive an older car or drive more than average. Moral of my rant: Start filling up at a nearby Centex. Take the $200+ you save and treat yourself to a nice dinner at one of the fine establishments in town. I enter, I ask the lady very nicely if I can use their restroom, and both her and her coworker give me a horrible attitude. They tell me to go to Wendy's as they're "open". To my surprise-- they weren't. So now I've been lied to, and trying not to embarrass myself and pee my pants outside. I was running across the Brentwood plaza at 6:30 AM, in -25°C weather, about to blow up. I was able to find a restroom elsewhere, thank God. But seriously, do better. It's usually cheaper than Cendex, Tsui TIna and any other gas chain you may use. You'll need a credit card or a debit card, as it's virtually entirely automated (I've like seen the gas attendant only twice ever!) and runs 24/7 as a result. It's admittedly in a dark, and a bit scary neighbourhood. If you're a gal, I really would keep an eye out juuuust in case if you ever decide to fill up here after sundown, as this area is virtually deserted in the night with few if any pedestrians combined with a high population of homeless and transients.
