I'm not one to typically review a gas station. This one, however, has saved me on more than one…read moreoccasion when I've left a downtown club at 2am and found myself running on gas reserves. Bottom line: it's downtown, and it's open 'round the clock, so every club-going Calgarian needs to know about this particular station! 4* instead of 5 only because I once stepped in a small puddle of gas here and ruined my favorite pair of dance shoes. Not sure this is the fault of the station, but still...

A service station is tough to review, since we often take them for granted. We show up. We gas…read moreup. We`re gone again. So its hard to rank one over the other. However, there are a few basic points that make me happy that this particular Victoria Esso exists: 1. Location, location, location! I live in suburbia in the SE, so it is very handy to have a gas station at close and easy access on the way home. 2. It has a drive through car wash. 3. It has 3 access/exit points, so the parking lot is rarely a gong show with people trying to come and go. 4. It has a convenience store, which at times comes in handy. All and all, few complaints here with the location and services. My only concern is that there are, at times, homeless people that cause a minor disturbance. Not often, but it has happened on more than one occassion. In my opinion, this happens pretty much anywhere downtown, but it is a consideration with this location over the burbs. No fault of the business, but its definately a part of doing any business in downtown locations.

I get super paranoid when I go to this Shell, I think I have been watching way too many movies, but…read morebecause it sits on 17th avenue and 5th. And I usually fill up at night, I think someone is just going to come along during their evening of partying, light up a cigarette and throw the match in my vicinity as I am filling my car up with gas. Or the other scenario playing on a constant loop in my brain are the several park tables on its lot where I know people like to hang out; again the same image of me filling up and them throwing their burning match at my vicinity. I know, I know it is silly but I am constantly thinking that while I am there. Other than that, this station is really convenient for me; I can gas up whilst leaving my home or whilst returning home. The guys working here are fun and friendly too, they have a lot of regulars I notice that just come and like to hang around and chat with them. The last time I was in one of their friends/clients was moon walking in front of the cash counter. So to sum it up it's a clean, convenient stop for gas, car and transmission lubricants, plus my cardio gets its usual Tarintino workout.

Known…read moreas the Command Centre, the Rangers meet at this Shell station for long periods of time to discuss Ranger tactics with other Zord-o-cyclists. The Rangers patrol the YYC strip during the summer, which consumes a great deal of fuel. They are easily identifiable by their two-wheeled Zords and matching leather jumpsuits. In all seriousness, there are a lot of sport bikes at this Shell station. It's morphin' time. Form of... a triceratops!

AVOID!!! I used to like this place but it's gone down hill…read morein a bad way. Paid almost $100 including an "extra" $10 for the rims which are still dirty. They threw out all my gas receipts for work and left a sticky residue all over the steering wheel. Rear bumper is covered in a dirty film. I won't be going back here any more, no one there cares about the work they do, nor do they put much effort into doing the job properly. Sad because it used to be a good place but so run down now with no professionalism.

Hey, if I could give them no stars at all, I would, but it's not an option. I dropped off my…read morebeloved car for a spring car wash with no apparent damages I could see, and I picked it up a few hours later with a long crack in the windshield. Now that's a surprise, when the cost of deluxe car wash was $94.49 with the GST, the driver's floor was not clean - justifying that they don't clean the "pedals", which has nothing to do with the floor, AND the cost to replace the windshield is to be determined, but I can guess. What a run-down service, with no customer satisfaction to speak of; not only I will never be going there again, but I highly recommend you do so too, especially if you care for your windshield. HA, HA, HA, they said certainly they didn't cause the cracking of my windshield because there was no other similar claim that day! Imagine what an excuse, as if they take responsibility ONLY if they have many claims of cracked windshield on a particular day. Plus, they don't offer discounts for such mishaps, they pocket full cost of the car wash, almost $100 bucks, and leave the rest on the "customer satisfaction survey" which does not exist for a good reason.
