Poor Communication, Unprofessional Behavior, and Unnecessary Panic…read more It took me over a year to get an appointment at this shop, as it seems to be the only local option for older sport bike repairs. The owner, Roland, is rough around the edges and lacks basic customer service skills -- but I initially gave him the benefit of the doubt, assuming he was simply busy. I had my Kawasaki ZX9 towed in for front brake and caliper repairs. I specifically asked for a quote before any work began, but instead of calling me, I had to chase him for the numbers each time. The total ended up being $1,300, which I paid in person since I couldn't pick up the bike myself due to knee surgery. I arranged for a tow company to retrieve it, gave Roland their details, and provided the pickup time. After the tow company left with my bike, Roland called to say they had used a wrecker and "didn't know what they were doing," making it sound like my bike was likely damaged. This caused me unnecessary panic -- especially since he never called me before the bike was moved. When I asked why he didn't call earlier if he was so concerned, he got angry and hung up on me. When the bike arrived, it was in perfect condition. His alarming phone call was completely unwarranted, and the stress he caused was unnecessary. While I can't yet speak to the quality of his repair work, I can say that his attitude, lack of professionalism, and poor communication were enough for me to decide I won't return. In the future, I'll tow my bike to Orlando or Tampa, where I've received skilled service and respectful treatment.

I called Solano cycles in St. Augustine, being the closest, but the sales person wasn't very nice and almost refused to send a quote. I then called Solano in Gainesville and spoke with Danial who was very nice and knowledgeable. He sent a quote which was considerably lower than later quotes I received from other dealers. We corresponded via email while I was deciding. The next week I called to hopefully start process to purchase online. I spoke with Christine, who was also nice as Daniel was supposedly busy in assembly. She spoke about delivery cost which was much lower than Daniel's email quote. Anyway, she stated she would have Danial return my call. Later that same day, not hearing from them, I called back getting Christine again and again told that Daniel was busy, but would send correct delivery quote via email and leave message for Daniel. Well, that was last week and no email,,,, no phone call,,,,. Was the low quote a marketing ploy? Do they not want to make a sale? Well, who knows. I can't recommend Any Solano cycle dealers. So disappointed.

One won't work on it because they only service one brand of bike... that is reasonable... they don't have any expertise on other brands, don't have the parts lines, etc. The other just won't take in bikes that are more than ten years old, despite having no problems taking them in on trade and then selling them to customers, who then cannot get them worked on by same-said dealer because of the ten year rule. However, Vespa Gainesville has none of these problems. They were able to take in my wheel and change out the tire on it (it really needed changing) without any problems, and the price was even reasonable. They even went the extra mile for balancing it when they found that they didn't have the right attachment for their wheel balancer, and instead took it down to their other shop to have it balanced properly. The shop doesn't just have Vespas in stock, either... they are also a Moto Guzzi and Aprilia dealership, and some of the Moto Guzzi's are starting to look really nice. Essentially, they are an all-Italian shop, at least in terms of what they work on, but they didn't have any problems working on my British-made bike!
