When we called in to make an appointment l, they were prompt and super friendly. After having our car and thoroughly checking/testing, they were unable to duplicate the issue. They offered great advice and next steps if it were to happen again. And then they didn't charge us for any of it. Honestly, I can't believe it and wish they would have at least charged us some amount simply because they were amazing and truly did help us. Campus auto took my car in day of. I had been having issues with my vehicle for a few months and no mechanic could tell me what the issue was (3 places looked at it!). Campus auto not only was able to diagnose the problem, but they were incredibly honest and upfront with me about the overall condition of my car. I dropped my car off several months ago and they still haven't done any work on it. We have given them so many chances and they constantly ghost us while insisting we're there top priority. It takes about 10 phone calls and several visits to the shop for them to make any progress. The shop seems to be closed during their normal business hours. Their quote was 50% lower than the dealer's, the person at the counter was able to converse fluently about exactly what the mechanic had discovered, and best of all: they actively dissuaded me from paying them more to replace parts that they thought had a few more years of life in them. Just drove home with the car (2012 Prius) and it's working great so far - all warning lights gone and functionality restored. I had been to Campus Auto Service in the past and found them to be honest and forthcoming, So when I took my car to another auto service center and was told that the car needed $5,500 worth of work because there were multiple leaks in the engine. Before junking it we decided to take it to Campus Auto for a second opinion, they said the car needed a new head gasket and they quoted us $2800. Last summer my car had issues with the transmission as well as with the AC. At the time my wife had the car in Columbus for work and she was stuck with it in poor condition while I was 5 hours away in Buffalo. Needless to say, that is a recipe for a massive headache. Luckily after reading several reviews, I made one of the best decisions of my adult life and messaged Campus Auto. To simply look at the car at other dealers was around $75-100 and at Luke's, I was quoted around $135. Campus Auto was very responsive on Yelp and quoted me around $50 if I remember correctly. After dropping it off they responded within a few hours and went over the options for the needed repairs. They also pointed out how previous repairs I had to the transmission were done improperly, (which explained why I needed it repaired again). I don't remember the exact numbers but it was around $500 total which was significantly cheaper than what I was quoted elsewhere. My grandfather worked at GM for 30 years as an auto engineer and even he was surprised by how fair the price was for the amount of work. Long story short (the car had several issues) it was an absolute pleasure working with Campus Auto and in a way I'm actually glad I needed the repairs because working with them restored my faith that honest, hard working people still exist. The lady in the office was very kind and the mechanic did a great job explaining the issue and was clearly a master of his craft. They are quick, responsive, and they will fix your car for a fair price and at a high quality. read more

I had a weird rattling noise going on with my truck and brought it in to get a diagnostics run on it. They worked on it all day, and eventually couldn't find out what was wrong with it, and they determined it wouldn't cause any problems and double checked everything and didn't charge me a dime! I bring all my vehicles here. New and old. Campus auto always has the best price. For example today on my newer truck, the wiper line was broken. And of course it is raining and due for snow. So was worried about getting it fixed in a timely manner. Came in this morning after calling Andy and he said bring on in and I'll take a look. I can sum my review up by saying that Campus Auto provided me with a shining example of kindness and honesty. They lived up to all their positive reviews. I was driving my daughter's car, an old Honda Fit, from Maryland to Colorado. On night of the first part of the journey, somewhere in Eastern Ohio, the lights began to pulsate as did the air conditioner fan. I immediately thought that the alternator was about to go. I made it to Columbus, where I stayed for the night. Before starting out the next morning, I took the car to Campus Auto. After all, if it was the alternator I would not make it from Columbus to Colorado. I described the problem to the mechanic, who agreed that it could well be the alternator. He was fully booked, and if that was the problem he would not be able to take care of it that day. I told him my tale of woe, and asked if he could recommend another shop since I needed to get the car to Colorado and be back at work in DC within the next three days. The mechanic stopped what he was doing, looked me in the eye, and said, "No. I won't." He said that someone would likely take advantage of my situation. Instead of sending me somewhere else, or making me wait a day, he dropped everything to take a look at the car and see what he could do to help. After about 20 minutes, he told me that the connections to the battery terminals were all loose, that he had tightened them, and that everything else checked out fine. I may be reading into this, but to me he looked genuinely happy that he could fix the problem so quickly, and he delivered the news with a big smile. Not only did he fix the car, he refused to accept anything more than a handshake. I couldn't have hoped for a better experience. read more

My husband and I were in the middle of a cross-country move when our Honda CRV broke down. We called Andy because of the great reviews on Google and we are so glad we did! The tow truck ran late so we weren't able to get into Andy's shop until 5:30pm (he closed at 6pm that day). Nevertheless, Andy threw the car up, took a look and gave us a VERY fair estimate for a new A/C compressor, serpentine belt, power steering repair, and new brakes on the front. We had to stay overnight and Andy was even kind enough to drop us at our hotel on his way home. I say this not because it's a service he normally offers, but to illustrate his kindness and character. He started on the car first thing the next morning (a Saturday) to help us get back on the road. The shop opened up at 8am and we had the car by 11:30a. The actual charge was about $100 lower than the estimated cost because he spent less time on it than he thought he would - and that's even with taking care of a few smaller problems he noticed while he was working. The car runs like a dream and we made it to our destination with no problems. Andy was friendly, sympathetic to our plight, and incredibly fair. I seriously have no idea how to thank this man for his kindness other than posting this review. If I ever find myself living in the Columbus area, I would go to Andy exclusively. I dread going to the mechanic. What's that George Costanza quote? "Well of course they're trying to screw you! What do you think? That's what they do. They can make up anything; nobody knows! 'Why, well you need a new Johnson rod in here.' Oh, a Johnson rod. Yeah, well better put one of those on!" I'm a consumer with so little information I can't make an informed decision, and so much car maintenance is expensive. Thankfully, Andy and the staff seem really fair about what they regard as a necessary expense. Our Toyota Corolla '01 had some brake troubles: nothing terrible, but something we wanted checked. Andy fixed that one pretty quickly, noticed a few other things wrong with the car...but then explained that they weren't top priority fixes, wouldn't affect performance and/or put the driver at risk, had a ways to go before they would break, and they could be monitored whenever I get my oil changed. I trust a salesman who explains why I don't actually need to buy something. Given that this place is so close to me anyway, I plan to be bringing the car here from now on. I came here because the reviews were very positive, but after my experience I have to think the owners are paying to advertise the good reviews and hide the bad. I took my car here for an estimate on front and rear brakes and rotors. They quoted me $800 dollars. When I called another shop that said anything over $500 is a rip-off, I decided to get my car back. They tried charging me a $40 diagnostic fee just to get my keys back. Stay Away! read more

Quoting another reviewer..."Fair, honest, reliable" I came in from out of town to visit my daughter at OSU. When I arrived, she told me her car had developed a rattle in the engine compartment and I was worried that something would break on her drive back to her home in Illinois. I drove the car and confirmed that it did not sound "right." I stopped by Campus Auto on a Tuesday afternoon not expecting anyone to be able to check out the car that late in the day. I just wanted to see if I could trust the place enough to have my daughter bring the car back another day when she could leave it with them. I explained the symptoms to Andy the owner. Based on my explanation he said it sounded like a heat shield had worked loose and since he was waiting on some parts to finish another job he could take a look at it right away. He also said that if that was the problem, he would not charge me for the repairs. He then sent his mechanic out on a test drive, put the car up on the rack, and confirmed that was the problem. He then fixed the problem and test drove the car a second time to be sure that was it. All told, they probably spent 20 - 30 minutes with my car. When he handed me the keys, I fully expected to be charged for the repairs so I asked what I owed them. He said I didn't owe him anything because as he said up front, if that was the problem he would not charge me. I was pleasantly surprised. He could have charged me a few bucks and I would have still been happy with their service, and yet he did not. Needless to say, this is the only shop in town I will let my kid take the car when it needs service. Andy, a big THANK YOU. My problem was a passenger-side window that would roll down, but would not roll back up. As I later found out, in these situations it's either the regular (motor) or a switch that stops working. I live near campus and my car stays parked in an open lot, so it wasn't particularly safe and I was naturally quite worried. The first mechanic I took it to said that he would have to order a new regulator, and that it would come in the next day. I went to Campus Auto for a second opinion. They were friendly, professional, and encouraged me to ask questions. I dropped my car off and walked to the nearby Starbucks, and about 1.5 hours later, Andy called me and said that it was the switch on the driver-side (something completely different from what the first mechanic told me), gave me a very reasonable quote, and said that he'd have the car ready in two hours. He called back exactly two hours later, saying that my car was ready. Now it's as good as new. To summarize: Campus Auto is meticulous and customer-oriented, and certainly not out to make a quick buck. I'll go to them regularly from now on. read more

Best mechanic in the universe as far as I'm concerned. Been here 4 times, once for tire patching, once for tire replacement, once for engine issues and another time for engine issues with my mom's car when it died after she came out to Columbus to visit. Prices are very reasonable and always the same or even less than the estimates they give before starting service. They managed to fix my mom's car in a day for an incredibly low price, and she managed to make it back to Maryland without missing any work. My tire patching only cost $30 and the price of my engine inspection was cut in half because they managed to find the small issue quickly. After telling me about the issue, they recommended I go to a dealership to have it fixed for free since my car was still under warranty instead of trying to make the sale for themselves. Campus Auto is a very professional and honest business. My daughter brought her car there for a very loud grinding noise coming from the front tire. What they found was some rocks stuck in a heat shroud. They removed them and didn't even charge her. A unscrupulous and dishonest repair shop could have easily taken her for unneeded repairs.
